The cause may be an unstable Wi-Fi connection, a firewall or antivirus rule, blocked UDP traffic, corrupted Roblox files, another application interfering with the client, or a Roblox-side service problem.
Work through the checks below in order. Start with the platform-wide checks, then compare networks, test a wired connection, review security and router settings, refresh Roblox, and finally contact Roblox Support with useful diagnostic details.
1. Check Roblox’s service status first
Open the official Roblox Status page and look for an incident affecting the website, authentication, game join, or game services. Status information is live and can change quickly, so an “all systems operational” result only describes the current check—it does not prove that Roblox was never experiencing an interruption.

If Roblox is reporting a major incident, wait for the service to recover before changing firewall rules, reinstalling the app, or modifying your router. Local troubleshooting cannot repair a problem on Roblox’s infrastructure.
2. Retry, then test another experience
Close the error, wait briefly, and try joining again. Temporary server or connection interruptions can resolve without any configuration change.
Next, try a different Roblox experience:
- If several experiences disconnect, the problem is more likely to involve the client, your network, or security software.
- If only one experience disconnects while others work, record that fact. It may point toward an experience-specific or server-specific issue.
This is an isolation test, not a guaranteed diagnosis. A single successful experience does not completely rule out a broader connection problem.
3. Compare your normal network with another internet source
Connect the device to a different internet source and try Roblox again. For example, you can briefly use a phone hotspot if your phone, plan, and device support it.

Interpret the result carefully:
- Roblox works on the alternate connection: investigate your usual Wi-Fi, router, ISP connection, filtering, or home-network configuration.
- Roblox still disconnects: the issue may be on the device, in the Roblox installation, in security software, or on Roblox’s side.
A hotspot is useful for comparison, not necessarily as a permanent gaming connection. Its latency, reliability, and data allowance vary by carrier and plan.

4. Test a wired Ethernet connection
Roblox’s general connection guidance recommends trying a wired connection to rule out an inconsistent wireless connection. Connect the computer or compatible device directly to the router with Ethernet, then retry the same experience.
If you need one for the test, a Cat 6 Ethernet cable is a practical option for a device and router that both have compatible Ethernet ports. The cable is not a guaranteed Error 277 fix: it cannot resolve a Roblox outage, a blocked connection, or an unsupported device.
The comparison is what matters:
- Ethernet works but Wi-Fi disconnects: focus on wireless interference, distance from the router, congestion, router placement, and Wi-Fi configuration.
- Both connections fail: continue with security, router, client, and platform checks.
Do not buy a new router solely because Error 277 appeared once. First establish whether the problem is consistently limited to your wireless path.
5. Check firewall and antivirus permissions
Firewall and internet-security software can block communication between Roblox and its servers. Check the security product’s allowed-app or application-control list and make sure Roblox is permitted to communicate on the networks you use.
Windows users should review both Windows Security and any separately installed antivirus, firewall, VPN, parental-control, or web-filtering software. The labels differ between products, but look for settings such as Firewall, Allowed apps, Application rules, Network protection, or Exceptions.
You can perform a brief diagnostic test by temporarily pausing third-party protection, launching Roblox, and then immediately restoring protection. Do not leave antivirus or firewall protection disabled. If the test identifies a conflict, create a narrowly scoped allow rule using the security vendor’s instructions instead of permanently turning protection off.

Close unnecessary third-party applications
Close programs that may interfere with games or network traffic, then retry Roblox. Examples include auto-clickers, other game launchers, overlays, VPNs, traffic filters, and aggressive monitoring tools. This does not mean every background application causes Error 277. Re-enable programs one at a time if you need to identify a conflict.

Roblox uses dynamically selected ports for each experience session. Roblox’s guidance warns that a router blocking UDP packets on any port can prevent the connection from working. Its general connection information identifies UDP ports 49152–65535 as the range to review.
Check your router’s documentation or ask your ISP whether the network blocks outbound UDP traffic in that range. Also review:
- Parental-control or content-filtering profiles
- Guest-network restrictions
- Security or “gaming protection” features
- VPN, proxy, or DNS-filtering services
- Managed school, workplace, hotel, or public networks
Do not blindly forward ports or change unrelated router settings. Roblox’s guidance supports checking for blocked traffic; it does not provide a universal port-forwarding recipe that fixes Error 277 on every home network. If you do not recognize a router setting, consult its manual or your ISP before changing it.
7. Refresh Roblox on Windows
On Windows, Roblox recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the application and clearing Roblox application data where appropriate. This can remove corrupted files or accumulated local data and give the client a clean installation.

- Close Roblox and any Roblox-related browser windows.
- Uninstall Roblox using Windows’ installed-app or Apps & features settings.
- Follow Roblox’s documented instructions for clearing its application data. Remove Roblox data only from the documented Roblox location; do not delete unrelated Windows folders.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Roblox again from the normal official Roblox installation flow.
- Sign in and test more than one experience.
A reinstall is most useful after the network comparison and security checks. If the same error occurs on multiple networks immediately after a clean installation, continuing to reinstall repeatedly is unlikely to help.
8. Platform-specific fixes
Mobile devices
- Force-close Roblox.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Check that the device’s date and time are correct; automatic date and time is preferable where available.
- Install pending Roblox and operating-system updates.
- Reinstall Roblox if the disconnections continue.
- Test Wi-Fi and, where appropriate, mobile data as separate connections.
Mobile hotspot and cellular testing may consume data and can have different latency from home broadband, so use it as a short comparison.
ChromeOS
- Update ChromeOS.
- Force-close Roblox.
- Restart the Chromebook.
- Reinstall Roblox if the error remains.
- Confirm that Google Play is enabled if your Roblox installation depends on it.
Consoles and other devices
Restart the device, restart the router, install available system and Roblox updates, and compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if the hardware supports it. Security and network controls may be managed by the router rather than by the console. If the issue occurs only on one device, record the device model and system version before contacting support.
9. Confirm Roblox and network requirements
Roblox’s listed computer requirements include:
- Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11
- macOS: macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later
- ChromeOS: ChromeOS 53 or later with Google Play enabled
- Linux: not supported
Roblox recommends a minimum connection speed of approximately 4–8 Mb/s for a single-use household, with more bandwidth recommended when several people share the connection. This is a baseline requirement, not a guarantee that a compliant connection will never disconnect. Stability, latency, packet loss, filtering, and wireless conditions can matter even when a speed test reports adequate download bandwidth.

Optional: check for broader Windows issues
If Roblox continues disconnecting on Windows after you have checked the network, security permissions, router behavior, and Roblox installation, an optional Windows PC diagnostic tool may help identify broader system or Wi-Fi problems.
