Fix World of Tanks Blitz by first identifying where it fails and whether you installed the Steam or Microsoft Store version. Use Steam file verification for a Steam installation, WSReset and Windows app repair for the Microsoft Store version, and graphics-driver and overlay troubleshooting for crashes that occur after the game opens.

1. Confirm your version of Windows and Blitz
Before changing files, identify whether you launch Blitz through Steam or the Microsoft Store/Xbox app. Their repair steps are different. A desktop shortcut can hide the installation channel, so test by opening Steam or Microsoft Store directly.
Wargaming currently lists these minimum PC requirements:

See the official Blitz requirements. These are minimums, not a performance guarantee. A computer can meet them and still crash because of a damaged driver, unstable overclock, conflicting software, corrupted files, or low available memory. Do not assume that the listed 256 MB VRAM minimum guarantees stability on every integrated GPU.

There is also an important legacy-Windows limitation: although the Blitz listing still mentions Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, Steam’s client requires Windows 10 or later. Older Windows users may therefore be blocked by Steam before the game itself can run. Check the current Steam notice.
2. Do these low-risk fixes first
- Restart Windows completely. Do this after waking from sleep, installing a driver, or applying Windows updates.
- Close stuck processes. Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Escand end a frozen Blitz, Steam, Microsoft Store, or Xbox app process. This is a practical Windows step, not a guarantee of a Blitz-specific fix. - Install Windows updates.
- Update the graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. If the crash began immediately after a driver update, test a rollback or clean installation instead.
- Disable non-essential overlays temporarily: Discord, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, recording tools, RGB utilities, game boosters, and third-party antivirus overlays.
- Disable mods, ReShade, injectors, FPS counters, and overclocking or undervolting profiles.
- Check free space on both the game drive and the Windows drive. The game requires 8 GB listed storage, but updates, temporary files, verification, and the Windows paging file need additional room.
Steam identifies corrupted files, obsolete drivers, interfering software, and systems near minimum requirements as common launch causes in its launch troubleshooting guidance.
3. Steam: verify the Blitz installation
File verification is the correct first repair for a Steam installation. It is quick and normally preserves your installation, but it will not repair a graphics driver, Windows Store registration, local configuration, or an overlay conflict.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click World of Tanks Blitz.
- Select Properties.
- Open Local Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish, restart Steam, and test the game.
The labels can vary slightly between Steam client versions. Wargaming’s documented procedure is in its Steam file-verification guide.

If Steam repeatedly redownloads files or verification completes without changing the failure, test again with overlays and background utilities disabled. Reinstall only if the installation remains damaged or the verification process cannot complete.
4. Microsoft Store: reset the Store cache and app
Do not use Steam verification for the Microsoft Store version. Wargaming recommends clearing the Store cache with WSReset:
- Close Microsoft Store.
- Open Start and type
cmd. - Run Command Prompt as administrator.
- Enter:
WSReset- Wait for the cache-cleared notification.
- Restart the computer.
- Launch Blitz again.
This clears Microsoft Store cache; it does not delete downloaded Blitz resources or reset your Wargaming account. See Wargaming’s Store-cache instructions.
If the app still will not launch, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Blitz, open its advanced options, and try Repair. If that fails, use Reset, understanding that Windows may remove local app data. Update Windows and Microsoft Store before reinstalling. If package registration remains broken, uninstall Blitz through Windows and reinstall it from the same Store channel.

5. Choose the correct GPU
On a laptop, Blitz may be assigned to the integrated GPU when it needs the discrete adapter, or the reverse may be more stable. For the Microsoft Store version, Wargaming documents this path:
- Right-click the desktop and select Display settings.
- Open Graphics settings.
- Select Microsoft Store app.
- Add or select World of Tanks Blitz.
- Choose Options, select the preferred adapter, and click Save.
Use the official GPU-selection instructions. High performance can improve compatibility but also increases power use and heat, so test both adapters if the game previously worked on integrated graphics.
6. If Blitz crashes after opening
A crash in the garage or while entering a battle points more strongly toward rendering, drivers, resources, or injected software than toward a missing launcher file.
- Update or roll back the GPU driver. Use the manufacturer’s site, not a third-party driver updater.
- Remove overlays and injectors. Disable Discord, GeForce Experience or AMD overlays, capture software, ReShade, FPS counters, and RivaTuner.
- Return hardware to stock. Remove GPU, CPU, and RAM overclocks or undervolts while testing.
- Lower graphics settings if the game stays open long enough. This can help resource or rendering failures, but it is not a universal fix.
- Check heat and power. Test a laptop on AC power. If it aggressively throttles, open
Win+R, runpowercfg.cpl, and test High Performance. This may increase heat, fan noise, and power consumption; it will not repair corrupted files. - Run a clean boot if the crash persists.
7. Use a Windows clean boot to find conflicts
Wargaming’s clean-boot procedure isolates startup software and services without telling you to disable Microsoft services indiscriminately:

- Sign in with administrator access.
- Search for and open
msconfig.exe. - On General, choose Selective startup and clear Load startup items.
- Open Services.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services.
- Select Disable all, click OK, and restart.
- Test Blitz.
If Blitz works, re-enable services and startup items in groups, restarting between tests, until you identify the conflict. Restore normal startup afterward: open msconfig.exe, choose Normal startup under General, click OK, and restart. Follow Wargaming’s clean-boot guide.
8. Reset configuration and cache carefully
Do not blindly copy cache-reset instructions from World of Tanks. Wargaming’s documented path %appdata%wargaming.netWorldOfTanks is for that game, not a confirmed Blitz path.
If Steam verification, driver testing, overlay removal, and a clean boot do not help, look for a Blitz-specific reset procedure in the Blitz technical-support index or ask Player Support for the correct folder. Local resets can remove graphics, controls, and other settings.
Some community reports mention renaming a DAVAProject folder, but this is not confirmed by the official Blitz documentation cited here. If support specifically directs you to test it, close the game first and rename the folder—for example, DAVAProject.old—rather than permanently deleting it. Reboot, test, and restore the old name if the result is worse. Do not delete credentials or unrelated Wargaming folders.

9. Separate connection problems from crashes
If the game opens normally but remains on “connecting,” fails after login, or reports an authorization error, check the firewall, VPN or proxy, account link, and possible service interruption. Steam lists Wargaming.net as a required third-party account; confirm that the correct account is linked to the Steam version.
For a genuine DNS or authorization symptom, Wargaming provides these commands. Run them in an elevated Command Prompt and reboot:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
netsh winsock resetThese commands are not appropriate for a game that crashes before its window appears. The netsh command changes Windows networking configuration and requires a restart. Wargaming mentions Google DNS as a temporary alternative for DNS problems, but do not change DNS by default; it can make some ISP resources inaccessible. See the DNS troubleshooting guide.
10. Reinstall only when the evidence supports it
Reinstalling is slower and more disruptive than verification, cache repair, or a clean boot. Use it when verification repeatedly fails, the installation directory is damaged, or Store package registration remains broken.

- Uninstall through that same channel.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall from the official Steam listing or Microsoft Store.
- Sign in with the correct account and test before adding mods or overlays.
Switching from Steam to Microsoft Store is not an official universal fix. Community reports are anecdotal, and changing channels can create separate installation, configuration, or account-linking problems.
11. Contact Wargaming Player Support
If Blitz still crashes after channel-specific repair, driver testing, overlay removal, and a clean boot, stop repeating the same reinstall. Open a ticket through Wargaming Blitz Player Support and include:
- Windows version and whether the system is Windows 10 or 11.
- Steam or Microsoft Store installation.
- The exact failure stage: launch, loading, garage, battle entry, or connection.
- Any error message or code.
- GPU model and driver version.
- Whether overlays, mods, injectors, and overclocks were disabled.
- Whether Steam verification or Store repair completed.
- DxDiag, crash dumps, or WGCheck information if the support page requests them.
Wargaming’s technical index provides separate Blitz troubleshooting categories. Diagnostic tools and report formats can change, so follow the current instructions in the Blitz support ticket rather than assuming that every procedure documented for another Wargaming game applies unchanged.
