Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen publicly disavowed the announced revival in September 2024: he said he had no connection to it, had not sold anything, and did not support crypto. A hidden page on the revival website was reported to reference Solana and Web3, but that did not establish that cryptocurrency features were planned, abandoned, or implemented.
What did Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen say?
On September 15, 2024, Nguyen posted: “No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything. I also don’t support crypto.” TechCrunch reported the statement, and PC Gamer also covered his disavowal the following day. TechCrunch’s report and PC Gamer’s account describe Nguyen as rejecting involvement in the announced return.
What was the revival, and who claimed rights to it?
The Flappy Bird Foundation announced plans to bring the game back and said it had acquired rights from Gametech Holdings, LLC. That is the Foundation’s account of its rights; Nguyen’s statement that he did not sell anything is a separate claim. Neither statement alone resolves every question about trademarks or other rights, and the available reporting does not establish a definitive legal conclusion.
PC Gamer’s September 16, 2024 report describes the trademark history and identifies Michael Roberts as a key figure associated with Gametech and the Foundation, as well as the revival’s “chief creative.” That is PC Gamer’s description, not a legal finding.

Did the revival actually use cryptocurrency?
TechCrunch reported that the Foundation’s public-relations materials at the time did not mention crypto. It also reported that researcher Varun Biniwale found language on a hidden page of the revival website describing Flappy Bird flying “higher than ever on Solana as it soars into Web 3.0.” TechCrunch said it was unclear whether the references indicated forthcoming features or abandoned plans.
That reporting supports saying the website contained crypto-related language; it does not support saying that the revival launched with cryptocurrency functionality. The September 2024 reports do not verify the final feature set or the game’s current availability.

Why the original game’s history matters
TechCrunch says the original Flappy Bird first released in 2013 and Nguyen took it down in February 2014. Those dates help explain why a revival prompted questions about the creator’s involvement, but they do not establish the revival’s present-day status.
