Is the new Flappy Bird game a crypto game? It depends which release you mean. The 2024 Telegram version was tied to TON and reported apparent token plans; the Android game released through Epic Games Store in April 2025 was later reported to have no crypto elements. Those are separate versions, and neither the trademark claims nor the reboot establish that original creator Dong Nguyen sold or endorsed it.
How the two Flappy Bird releases differ
| Version | Platform and stage | Crypto account |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 relaunch | Telegram mini-app; its Flap-A-TON activity was described by the official channel as beta testing. | September 2024 reporting connected it to TON and described an apparent token in the works. That supports plans or an apparent token, not a claim that a token launched. |
| 2025 release | Android release on Epic Games Store, dated April 29, 2025. | Decrypt reported that this release had no crypto elements; the publisher said there was no token or current Web3 game at that time. |
The difference matters: a report about token plans for the Telegram beta does not establish that the later Android release used crypto. Likewise, the 2025 account is time-specific and does not settle what a future version might include.
What happened with the 2024 Telegram beta?
In September 2024, the official Flappy Bird Telegram channel promoted “Flap-A-TON” and said it would remain in beta while testing different markets and meta. Decrypt’s contemporaneous reporting described the Telegram mini-app as having an apparent token in the works on TON. The evidence supports describing a crypto-linked beta and apparent plans, not saying a token was launched.
Did Nguyen sell or approve the reboot?
No evidence here supports saying that Nguyen sold the original game or participated in the reboot. Decrypt reported his public response in 2024: “I did not sell anything.” The same report quoted him saying, “I also don’t support crypto.” Those statements distinguish his position from the Foundation’s account of trademark rights.

What rights did the Foundation say it acquired?
In an official Telegram post, the Flappy Bird Foundation gave this trademark history: the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registered the mark to Mobile Media Partners in 2018; Gametech Holdings acquired it in 2021; and the Foundation said it acquired the trademark from Gametech in August 2024. The Foundation described placing the Flappy Bird trademark and rights to Piou Piou vs Cactus with the Foundation as a final preparation step for the game’s return.
That is the Foundation’s account of a trademark transfer. It does not, by itself, establish that Nguyen sold the original game, that all rights in every game asset changed hands, or that he approved the reboot.

What does the 2025 Epic listing establish?
The US English Android listing on Epic Games Store names Flappy Bird Publishing PTE. LTD. as publisher, gives April 29, 2025 as the release date, and lists the base game as free with possible in-app purchases. Its legal copy says the game is built and owned by that Singapore company and identifies Flappy Bird as a registered trademark of Flappy Bird Holding Ltd.
Those are statements on the store listing, not a complete legal history of the trademark or a resolution of every claim about the 2024 Foundation. Decrypt’s report on the Android release said it contained no crypto elements and quoted the publisher as saying there was no token or current Web3 game active then. Store availability and features may have changed since that release.
