Its Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform, real-time ray tracing support, 8-inch 120Hz inner display and explicitly expanded multi-app workspace give it clearer advantages for demanding games and several apps at once. Apple’s iPhone Duo is the better fit if you already depend on iOS and Apple-device continuity: it combines an A20 Pro chip, a 7.6-inch ProMotion inner display and a dual-battery design, but Apple has published fewer concrete details about split-screen behavior and game-specific graphics.
That verdict is based on announced specifications, not independent testing. Sustained thermal performance, game compatibility, benchmark scores, hinge longevity and comparative pricing remain open questions.

Quick verdict: Galaxy Z Fold7 for features, iPhone Duo for Apple continuity
The Galaxy Z Fold7 has the stronger documented case for both priorities in this comparison. Samsung identifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, publishes generation-over-generation performance gains, and specifically lists real-time ray tracing for gaming. Its 8-inch main screen also gives games more physical space than the iPhone Duo’s 7.6-inch inner display. For productivity, Samsung describes an expanded workspace for multiple apps and says One UI 8 is optimized for the foldable form.

The iPhone Duo is not a weak gaming phone. Apple positions its A20 Pro chip, ProMotion displays and large inner panel for gaming and multitasking, and the phone will integrate naturally with an existing Apple setup. The limitation is what Apple has not specified in the cited launch material: there is no detailed description of split-screen layouts, desktop-style workflows, game graphics features or battery-runtime figures. Those omissions do not prove the iPhone Duo performs poorly; they mean a buyer should not treat unannounced capabilities as established advantages.

What each phone actually is
iPhone Duo
Apple introduced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. It opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and has a 5.4-inch outer display for use while closed. Apple describes the inner screen as 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display. The phone uses the A20 Pro chip, a dual-battery architecture and a custom vapour chamber. Both displays have ProMotion, and Apple quotes up to 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.
The construction uses grade 5 titanium and Ceramic Shield materials and carries an IP68 rating. Pre-orders begin October 16, 2026, with availability beginning October 23, 2026. As of the announcement, Apple’s cited release does not provide a weight, battery capacity, video-playback estimate or launch price.
Galaxy Z Fold7
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold7 on July 9, 2025. It weighs 215 grams, measures 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when open, and has an 8-inch 120Hz main display alongside a 6.5-inch 120Hz cover display. Samsung says the main display is 11 percent larger than the previous generation.

Which foldable is better for gaming?
Galaxy Z Fold7: the clearer graphics feature set
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is the recommendation when your decision is driven by documented gaming hardware. Real-time ray tracing is explicitly supported, which is a meaningful graphics capability for compatible games. The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy also gives Samsung a specific performance story: the company reports a 26 percent GPU improvement, 38 percent CPU improvement and 41 percent NPU improvement over the previous generation. These are Samsung’s published comparisons, not independent benchmark results, so they should be read as directional rather than a guarantee of frame rates in a particular title.
The 8-inch 120Hz inner display gives games the larger canvas of the two phones. A 120Hz panel can make supported games and scrolling look smoother than a lower-refresh display, although actual game frame rates depend on the title, graphics settings, thermal conditions and software support. Samsung’s materials connect the display, processor and ray-tracing capability directly to gaming, making the use case more concrete than a general performance claim.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
iPhone Duo: large screen and A20 Pro, with fewer gaming specifics
The iPhone Duo’s 7.6-inch inner display is only 0.4 inches smaller diagonally than the Fold7’s main screen, so it still provides a substantial surface for touch controls and game visuals. Apple specifies the A20 Pro chip and ProMotion displays, and the company markets the phone for gaming. Apple’s launch statement does not identify a ray-tracing mode, GPU architecture, game frame-rate target or supported titles, however.
The dual-battery architecture and custom vapour chamber are relevant design choices for a powerful foldable, but no published capacity, endurance test or sustained-performance result is supplied. A larger battery or cooling system cannot be assumed from the architecture alone to produce longer sessions than the Galaxy.
What is still unknown for both
No independent benchmark results, sustained thermal tests, game-by-game compatibility checks or long-session frame-rate measurements establish a winner under real play. The Fold7 therefore wins the documented-feature comparison, not a proven every-game performance contest. If a specific title is central to your purchase, check its current iOS and Android support and wait for device-specific testing rather than relying only on the chip name.
Which has the better display for play?
The Galaxy Z Fold7 has the larger inner display at 8 inches, compared with 7.6 inches for the iPhone Duo. Both phones offer a 120Hz-class experience in the information available: Samsung specifies 120Hz for both Fold7 panels, while Apple calls both iPhone Duo displays ProMotion without giving a separate refresh-rate figure in the cited release. The Fold7 also has the larger closed-state screen at 6.5 inches versus the Duo’s 5.4 inches, which matters when you want to launch or manage a game without opening the phone.
Apple’s strongest display specification is brightness: up to 3000 nits peak outdoors. That figure is useful for visibility in bright conditions, but it is a peak claim rather than a statement of sustained full-screen brightness. Samsung’s cited specifications here do not provide a directly comparable peak-brightness number, so brightness superiority cannot be established from these figures.
Neither announcement supplies aspect-ratio measurements. The diagonal sizes therefore describe physical canvas area, not exactly how much of a game will be filled or how comfortable a particular control layout will feel. Games that letterbox, reserve space for controls or use fixed orientations may look different on each foldable.

Which is better for multitasking?
Galaxy Z Fold7: documented multi-app workflow
Samsung explicitly describes an expanded workspace for multiple apps and says One UI 8 is optimized for the foldable format. That is the strongest evidence in this comparison for running several tasks on the open screen. The 8-inch panel and 6.5-inch cover display also give you more room than the iPhone Duo’s corresponding 7.6- and 5.4-inch screens.
In practical terms, the Fold7 is the safer choice for a workflow such as keeping a game, chat window, guide or browser visible alongside another app. Samsung’s announcement establishes the multi-app workspace, but the cited material does not enumerate every supported split arrangement, app pair or game behavior. Individual apps can still determine whether they resize cleanly or pause when sharing the screen.
iPhone Duo: multitasking is promised, not fully specified
Apple markets the iPhone Duo for multitasking and says its large display and A20 Pro help users stay productive. The phone runs iOS 27, so Apple ecosystem features and familiar iPhone software are important advantages for existing users. The cited launch release does not detail a split-screen mode, floating windows, drag-and-drop behavior or a desktop-style external-display workflow.

That means the answer to “Can I run two apps side by side?” is different for each device based on published information. Samsung documents a multiple-app workspace on the Galaxy Z Fold7. Apple’s release confirms a multitasking target but does not confirm the exact side-by-side implementation. Do not buy the Duo expecting a particular iPad- or desktop-like layout until Apple documents it or independent reviews verify it.
Portability when closed
The Galaxy Z Fold7 has published portability figures: 215 grams and 8.9mm thick when folded. Those numbers let you compare its carry weight and closed profile with other phones. The iPhone Duo’s cited launch release does not provide a comparable weight or folded thickness. Apple’s description emphasizes that the phone still fits easily in a pocket, but that is a marketing statement rather than a dimensional measurement.
The Duo’s 5.4-inch outer display is smaller than the Fold7’s 6.5-inch cover display. That can make the closed iPhone more compact in one-handed use, while the Galaxy exposes more screen for typing, navigation or quick game management without opening. Which approach is preferable depends on whether you value a smaller closed interface or more usable screen before unfolding.

Battery and long-session gaming
Published evidence favors the Fold7 for measurable endurance
Samsung lists a 4,400mAh battery and claims up to 24 hours of video playback for the Galaxy Z Fold7. “Up to” is a manufacturer estimate under its stated test conditions, not a guaranteed gaming runtime. Games generally draw more power than video playback because they load the processor and graphics hardware continuously, use touch input and may maintain a high refresh rate.
iPhone Duo’s architecture is known, runtime is not
Apple says the iPhone Duo uses two batteries and a custom vapour chamber. Those design details may help fit power and thermal hardware into a folding chassis, but Apple’s cited announcement does not give a capacity or playback estimate. There is therefore no defensible battery-life winner for gaming based on the announced numbers alone.
For either phone, expect brightness, cellular signal, refresh rate, game settings and heat to change endurance. A 120Hz display and demanding graphics mode can consume more power than a capped frame rate or lower brightness. Independent testing is needed to quantify how long either device can maintain performance before warming or reducing speed.
Durability and water resistance
iPhone Duo’s headline protection
The iPhone Duo has an IP68 rating and uses grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield materials. IP68 describes resistance under the applicable test conditions; it does not make a folding phone immune to drops, hinge damage, dust ingress over time or liquid damage outside those conditions. Apple’s materials are stronger headline protection claims than the information supplied for the Galaxy in this comparison.
Galaxy Z Fold7’s structural details
Samsung highlights hinge, glass and reinforced-frame construction for the Galaxy Z Fold7. The cited specifications here do not establish a directly comparable IP rating. Neither manufacturer’s announcement proves long-term hinge life, screen-crease durability or resistance after repeated folding. Those are open questions that require extended use and testing rather than launch specifications.
Software, ecosystem and accessories
Choose iPhone Duo for an Apple-centered setup
If your messages, files, wearables, subscriptions and other devices are already organized around Apple, the iPhone Duo minimizes platform switching. It ships with iOS 27, and Apple’s continuity features are the main reason to choose it despite the thinner multitasking documentation. The benefit is ecosystem fit, not a proven advantage in ray-traced graphics or split-screen productivity.

Choose Galaxy Z Fold7 for Android flexibility and a long update window
The Galaxy Z Fold7 runs Android with One UI 8, which Samsung says is optimized for foldables. Samsung also guarantees seven years of Android and security updates, a concrete longevity promise for a high-cost folding device. Android’s broader app and controller ecosystem may matter to some players, but the supplied specifications do not establish compatibility for every accessory or game.
Foldable cases, screen protectors, USB-C chargers and game controllers are the accessory categories most likely to affect ownership. Confirm that a case protects the hinge without interfering with folding, that a protector is designed for the correct flexible display, and that a controller supports the phone’s connection standard. Availability, regional inventory and prices should be checked at the time you buy; no universal accessory bundle is established by these announcements.
Launch timing, price and buying decision
The Galaxy Z Fold7 was announced in July 2025 and has an established product position. Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026; pre-orders start October 16 and availability starts October 23, 2026. If you need a phone before October 23, the Duo is not yet available on Apple’s published schedule.

Buy the Galaxy Z Fold7 if:
- Real-time ray tracing and a clearly specified gaming platform matter to you.
- You want the larger 8-inch inner display and 6.5-inch closed display.
- You regularly keep multiple apps visible and want Samsung’s documented expanded workspace.
- You value a published 4,400mAh capacity, up to 24-hour video-playback claim and seven-year update guarantee.
- You need a documented 215-gram weight and 8.9mm folded thickness before purchase.
Wait for or buy the iPhone Duo if:
- You rely on Apple’s ecosystem and want iOS 27 on a foldable.
- A 7.6-inch inner display, ProMotion and up to 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness are attractive.
- You prefer Apple’s A20 Pro platform and dual-battery design, even though independent endurance data is not yet available.
- IP68, grade 5 titanium and Ceramic Shield are higher priorities than Samsung’s published gaming features.
- You can wait for the October 23, 2026 availability date and verify the final price and stock.
What to check before you commit
- Confirm your games. Check each essential title’s current support, controller behavior and graphics options on the operating system you plan to use.
- Test the multitasking workflow you actually need. Determine whether your game, chat app, browser or guide remains active and resizes correctly beside another app.
- Compare closed-state comfort. The Fold7 offers a 6.5-inch cover display; the Duo offers a 5.4-inch outer display. Decide whether one-handed compactness or more closed-screen workspace matters more.
- Check regional purchase terms. Confirm launch price, storage, warranty, return period, repair coverage and availability for your country.
- Budget for protection. Use a foldable-compatible case and display protection that do not obstruct the hinge or flexible panel, and choose a charger and controller known to work with the phone you select.
- Look for independent testing. Pay particular attention to sustained frame rates, surface temperature, battery drain during games, app compatibility, hinge wear and long-term screen reliability.
Bottom line
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is the better-supported answer for this specific gaming-and-multitasking comparison. It has the larger inner display, a named high-end gaming processor, documented real-time ray tracing, an explicitly expanded multi-app workspace, measurable portability figures and a published battery and update commitment.
The iPhone Duo is the more logical choice for an Apple-first buyer who wants a foldable without leaving iOS. Its A20 Pro, 7.6-inch ProMotion inner display, strong brightness claim and IP68 titanium-and-Ceramic-Shield construction are compelling, but Apple has not yet supplied enough detail to establish superiority in split-screen productivity, graphics features or sustained gaming. Its October 23, 2026 launch date also means buyers should verify real-world testing and pricing before deciding.
