Football Manager 26 has already launched: the main editions arrived on November 5, 2025, followed by FM26 Touch for Nintendo Switch on December 4. It is the series’ return after Sports Interactive cancelled FM25, saying the game’s player experience and interface were not ready to meet its standards. Here’s what happened, where FM26 is available, and what changed.
Why Sports Interactive cancelled Football Manager 25
On February 6, 2025, Sports Interactive cancelled FM25 across all versions and platforms. The studio said that, despite two delays, “the overarching player experience and interface is not where we need it to be.” It cited a combination of known and unforeseen development challenges and said releasing a substandard game with plans to fix it later was the wrong decision. The timing also mattered. Sports Interactive said that delaying the game beyond March would leave too little of the football season for it to expect players to buy another release later that year. The cancellation therefore applied to the whole FM25 release, rather than only a particular platform or edition.
When Football Manager 26 came out
SEGA announced FM26 on September 11, 2025, setting November 5 as the release date for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Netflix. The November 5 launch notice also listed Apple Arcade. Which platforms and editions have FM26?
FM26 is not one identical version on every device. The current official product listing separates the main game, Console, Touch and Mobile editions. Storefront availability and subscription terms can vary by territory, so check the relevant store before choosing an edition.

These labels describe the official product page’s current platform listing, not a guarantee that every storefront or subscription option is available in every country. Football Manager says editions have significant differences. Mobile is the only edition that did not move to Unity. Check the official FM26 product page for current platform information.

Is there a physical copy?
SEGA listed both physical and digital versions of FM26 Touch for Nintendo Switch. That is the clearly documented physical edition; the cited announcements do not establish equivalent physical releases for the other platforms. Confirm the exact edition, territory, stock and current listing with a retailer before buying.
What changed in FM26
A move to Unity
FM26 is the first game in the series to use the Unity engine, according to SEGA’s announcement. The Mobile edition is the exception and did not switch engines. The announcements describe the technical change but do not establish how it affects performance on a particular device. SEGA’s release announcement covers the engine change.

A new navigation layout
The familiar sidebar gave way to a top navigation bar and a Portal hub for information such as club news, messages, results and calendars. FM26 also introduced FMPedia and revised search to help players find in-game guidance. These are documented interface features; whether the redesign suits an individual player is a matter of preference.
Separate formations for each phase
Managers can set distinct formations for when their side has possession and when it is defending. A Visualiser displays the team’s defensive, midfield and attacking structure. This makes the tactical setup more explicitly phase-based than a single formation view.

Women’s football in the shared game world
FM26 introduced women’s football to the series as part of a shared football world. SEGA’s November 5, 2025 launch notice reported 14 leagues across 11 countries and 3 continents. That is the publisher’s stated database scope, not an independently audited count. See SEGA’s launch feature details.
Premier League licensing and match presentation
The Premier League debuted with licensed club badges, kits and official player photos. Sports Interactive also promoted new match animations and upgraded on-pitch presentation. Those are publisher-described additions; the announcements do not provide independent evaluation of their visual quality.

Can you carry an older save into FM26?
SEGA said FM26, FM26 Console and FM26 Touch support saves from FM23 and FM24. The Mobile edition has a narrower compatibility rule: it supports FM24 Mobile careers. Confirm the source edition of a career before relying on it transferring, because compatibility is not the same across all versions. SEGA’s announcement lists the save-compatibility details.
What the FM25 cancellation means for FM26
FM26 is the completed follow-up release, not a renamed or belated FM25: SEGA announced it after the cancellation, and it introduced a new engine, interface and features. The available announcements establish what the studio said it built and when the editions launched; they do not independently establish that the new interface or systems are better for every player.
