Is Football Manager 26 worth buying now?
Think of FM26 as a potentially worthwhile purchase for someone who wants to play this edition now, not as an automatic long-term investment. If you normally buy the newest release, waiting lets you compare the next edition rather than paying for an older annual entry just weeks before its successor arrives. If you want to start a save immediately, your decision depends on the price you can actually get, your preferred platform edition and how comfortable you are with FM26’s redesigned systems. Current local prices are not established here, so compare the price at your chosen storefront with the value you expect to get before FM27 arrives.

What changed in FM26?
FM26 is the series’ first entry powered by Unity. SEGA describes changes to the interface, match presentation, tactics, scouting, transfers, manager creation and controller integration. It also adds the official Premier League licence and brings women’s football into the same game environment, with an integrated database and official competitions. The editions are not simply identical versions on different devices. PC/Mac, Console and Touch use the new engine; Mobile is a separate edition and the exception. Choose based on the product and access terms, not just the FM26 name.
What did reviews say, and what can they tell you now?
PC Gamer’s launch-era review praised the enduring, addictive management core alongside the new match engine. TechRadar’s November 2025 review was substantially more critical: it reported bugs, called the launch undercooked and listed features it said were missing, including international management, touchline shouts, the data hub, create-a-club, challenge mode, transfer deadline day and end-of-season summaries. TechRadar disclosed about 17 hours of play on Windows 11 via Steam, including a one-season Manchester United save and some women’s-game play. SEGA Sammy’s November 2025 investor presentation said FM26’s early sales were about 30% higher than FM24 and described it as the series’ fastest start, while also acknowledging critical user feedback associated mainly with the new engine and redesigned interface. The available official product pages establish platform availability and headline features, but not a complete October 2026 patch history. It is therefore not possible to conclude from the launch reviews alone that their reported issues remain, or that they have all been fixed.
