Tom’s Guide’s games are not one Wordle clone. They are a browser-based Puzzles & Quizzes hub with multiple-choice quizzes, list-recall challenges, jigsaws, word searches and crosswords. The current collection is presented as free to play, and it offers far more variety than a single daily five-letter word.

What are Tom’s Guide games?

Tom’s Guide has expanded beyond publishing Wordle hints with its own collection of themed games. Open the Tom’s Guide Play hub to browse the latest and trending puzzles, search for a subject, filter by game type or choose Play random.

The currently visible formats are:

  • Multiple Choice: Answer trivia questions by selecting from several options.
  • Lystery: Recall every item in a list or set. It is a good fit if you enjoy exhaustive memory challenges.
  • Jigsaw: Assemble themed images at selectable difficulty levels.
  • Word Search: Find themed words in a letter grid.
  • Crossword: Complete themed crossword puzzles.

The lineup changes, so a game mentioned in an older launch article may no longer be prominent. The live hub is the best source for what is playable now.

What can you play?

The collection is strongest when you want a puzzle tied to a particular interest. Current examples include quizzes about 1980s movies, The Beatles, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Toy Story, Marvel, Windows 11 and Apple. There are also quizzes covering fitness, pets, gardening and sustainability.

Visual-puzzle fans can find jigsaws featuring landscapes, wildlife, flowers, space and technology. Word searches and crosswords cover subjects including Stranger Things, sleep, iPhone, Windows 10, Amazon devices, dishwashers, Apple products and entertainment. Topics and availability are dynamic rather than fixed.

Which game should you choose?

  • For a quick break: Start with a multiple-choice quiz.
  • For a memory test: Try a Lystery and attempt to complete the whole list.
  • For traditional wordplay: Choose a crossword or word search.
  • For a visual, slower activity: Open a jigsaw.
  • For competition: Pick a supported game with score and leaderboard features, then register if you want your result saved.
  • For a specific fandom or hobby: Search the hub or use the tags attached to games to find related puzzles.

How Tom’s Guide compares with Wordle

Feature Wordle Tom’s Guide games
Core format One five-letter deduction puzzle Quizzes, recall games, jigsaws, word searches and crosswords
Update pattern One shared puzzle each day A changing library with new quizzes and puzzles, including weekday content
Subjects Vocabulary and deduction Movies, television, technology, sports, lifestyle and hobbies
Competition Guess efficiency, streaks and sharing Scores and leaderboards on supported games
Session length Usually a few minutes From a short quiz to a longer jigsaw

Wordle’s strength is its ritual: everyone gets the same puzzle and many players return to protect a streak. Tom’s Guide offers choice instead. That makes it a better fit for readers who want themed trivia or non-word gameplay, but it does not provide a direct replacement for Wordle’s single shared daily challenge.

How the jigsaws work

Tom’s Guide’s jigsaw puzzles offer three difficulty levels. Assistance options include Edge Pieces Only, which helps isolate border pieces; Reveal Puzzle Image, which shows a translucent view of the completed picture; and Place Next Piece, which provides additional help.

A progress counter increases as pieces are placed correctly, and completed games can feed into a leaderboard. Jigsaws can be played through the site on phones, tablets and computers. You can also replay a puzzle, view its solution and, where supported, register or log in to save your score. The sources do not establish a universal piece count or objective difficulty standard, so “hard” should be treated as a game setting rather than a comparable benchmark.

How to start playing

  1. Go to tomsguide.com/play.
  2. Browse Latest Puzzles & Quizzes or Trending Quizzes.
  3. Search for a topic or filter by All, Lystery, Multiple Choice, Jigsaw, Word Search or Crosswords.
  4. Open a game and begin playing.
  5. Register or log in if you want score-saving, leaderboard access, hints or other member features.

Do you need an account?

You can browse the collection and start playing without buying access. Tom’s Guide presents its membership as free, while registration is useful for saving scores, appearing on leaderboards, accessing hints on supported games, earning badges and joining community features.

Not every game necessarily handles anonymous play or scoring in exactly the same way. If a score matters to you, sign in before starting rather than assuming an unregistered result will be saved.

Can you play on a phone?

Yes. The jigsaw coverage specifically describes play on phones, tablets and computers. Tom’s Guide also launched a free iOS and Android app on June 3, 2026, with quizzes and puzzles available from the app’s Home tab. The app and mobile website are separate access routes, and the available information does not guarantee identical controls or functionality for every game.

What happened to Guess the Number?

In its March 17, 2026 launch announcement, Tom’s Guide previewed a Guess the Number format with two minutes per question, six attempts, green correct digits and leaderboard tracking. However, that game is not visible among the current categories on the live hub. Treat it as a launch-era preview, not as a confirmed currently playable category.

Verdict

Try Tom’s Guide if you want a free, low-commitment puzzle break with more variety than Wordle. Multiple-choice quizzes are the quickest entry point; Lystery suits recall fans; crosswords and word searches preserve the word-game feel; and jigsaws provide a longer visual activity.

Stick with Wordle if your priority is one shared daily puzzle, a familiar guessing system and a streak. For many players, the best answer is to use both: Wordle for the daily ritual and Tom’s Guide’s rotating collection when you want a topic, format or difficulty chosen to match your mood.
