Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3, titled Wrecked, was a 2024 season built around Nitro, vehicle combat and a new wasteland in the south of the Island. Epic launched it on May 24, 2024, and later updated the season and Battle Pass end time to August 15, 2024, at 11 PM ET. The details below describe that historical season, not Fortnite’s current content.
What was Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3?
Wrecked shifted the Battle Royale experience toward vehicles and high-speed combat. A sandstorm swept across the Island, creating a southern wasteland. Nitro powered both vehicles and players, while new vehicle mods, repair options, named locations and enemy encounters supported the season’s central theme.
Epic’s launch announcement introduced the season as: “In Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked, get in the driver’s seat and bring the Nitro to these vehicular villains!” (Epic Games’ season announcement, May 24, 2024.)
How did the map change?
The sandstorm revealed a wasteland biome across the south of the Island, with three featured locations:

Snooty Steppes was renamed Sandy Steppes. These were the locations and map changes Epic announced for Season 3.
What did Nitro do?
Nitro came in Nitro Splash and Nitro Barrels. Players could throw a Nitro Splash to infuse themselves or a car; Nitro Barrels activated on contact and could explode after being propelled.

Epic said Nitro increased a car’s driving speed, made rams damaging, reduced fuel consumption and strengthened attached attack mods.

When infused, players gained movement speed, used less stamina and reloaded faster. At sufficient speed, they could bash into opponents for damage; Nitro also granted immunity to fall damage.

Players attached vehicle mods by driving into a Vehicle Mod Box. The announced lineup included returning Cow Catchers and Chonkers Off-Road Tires, as well as new combat and durability options:
- Machine Gun Turrets and Grenade Launcher Turrets
- Spiked Bumpers
- Bulletproof Tires
- Cow Catchers and Chonkers Off-Road Tires
Repair Boxes and Repair Torches provided vehicle repair options. Service Stations refilled a vehicle’s gas and health while it was parked on the station pad.

What were Nitro Fists and the War Buses?
Nitro Fists
Nitro Fists offered a three-punch combo, an uppercut and an aerial punch. Epic described four charges, each recharging every eight seconds. The uppercut and aerial punch consumed one charge each; the three-punch combo did not.
War Buses and Wasteland Warriors
Two War Buses patrolled the Island. Each had two cannons and a horn that emitted an EMP pulse affecting nearby enemy shields and vehicles. Defeating Wasteland Warriors could reward players with medallions, mythic weapons and access to their vehicles. Medallions marked their carriers on opponents’ maps.

What weapons and mobile interface changes did Epic announce?
Epic’s season announcement listed unvaulted or carried-over shotguns, assault rifles, SMGs, pistols and Shockwave Grenades. It also called out balance adjustments to the Tactical Assault Rifle, Enforcer AR and Hand Cannon. Those are Season 3 announcements, not a statement about how the weapons work today; consult Epic’s full item-by-item recap for the announced list.
For mobile Battle Royale, Epic said it combined buttons and repositioned icons to make the HUD easier to see. The changes did not apply to players using a custom HUD, and players retained the ability to create one.
What did the Wrecked Battle Pass include?
The Wrecked Battle Pass was an in-game purchase costing 950 V-Bucks. Epic said players could earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks through leveling. Announced Outfits included The Machinist, Rust, Peabody, Ringmaster Scarr, T-60 Power Armor, Brite Raider and Megalo Don. These were digital in-game rewards.
What competitive events ran during the season?
Epic’s May 24, 2024 competitive details covered Ranked Cups, newly introduced Open Cups, Cash Cups, Victory Cash Cups, Duos Console Cash Cups and PlayStation Cups. Selected events had different rank requirements. FNCS Major 3 Open Qualifiers were scheduled for June 14 through July 28, 2024.
