As of October 4, 2026, Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is Override. Its arsenal has changed since launch: October Fortnitemares added new horror-themed weapons alongside returning ones, while earlier updates introduced more gear and refreshed loot options. Here’s what the items do, which ones are genuinely new, and how the changing loot systems affect what you may find.
What are the new weapons in Fortnite Chapter 7?
Epic’s v42.00 launch notes introduced seven notable weapons, items, or abilities. They cover movement, close-range combat, precision shots, healing, and survival rather than filling a single combat role. The descriptions below summarize Epic’s launch notes; balance has changed since then, so they should not be read as fixed performance stats. Epic’s v42.00 notes

| Item | Role and effect | Constraint or detail |
|---|---|---|
| Sonic Power Sneakers | Movement: charge a grounded Spin Dash or use an airborne Spin Attack. | Movement-focused rather than a firearm. |
| Mega Buster | Energy weapon that fires single pellets, quick-charged shots, or charged explosive projectiles. | Can be fired while sprinting or slide-boosting. Epic later increased projectile speed in v42.10. |
| 8-Bit Shotgun | Automatic shotgun with retro-console styling, pixel effects, and a combo-multiplier scoreboard. | Uses cartridge reloads; Epic later adjusted its balance. |
| Midas’ Masterpiece | Single-fire golden pistol intended for precise, high-impact shots. | Limited ammunition; Epic says a headshot can eliminate a foe. |
| Tetris Rift | Area healing: Tetris pieces form a four-line clear that splashes a large area-of-effect heal. | Useful for affecting more than one nearby player. |
| 1-Up Token | Survival item that respawns an eliminated player with their full inventory. | Epic’s launch description specifies the inventory outcome. |
| God Mode Llama | Grants an “Unstoppable Wrecking Ball” state. | Epic’s launch notes describe the state, not a comparative combat ranking. |
What does the Mega Buster do?
The Mega Buster is a charge-based energy weapon. You can fire single energy pellets, release quick-charged shots, or charge it for explosive projectiles. Its ability to fire while sprinting or slide-boosting makes it distinct from a weapon that requires you to stop moving before shooting. Epic later increased its projectile speed in v42.10, so its launch behavior is not a reliable guide to current balance. Epic does not provide a complete current damage or fire-rate comparison in the notes cited here. Epic’s v42.10 notes
How do I use Sonic Power Sneakers?
The sneakers provide two movement options: charge a Spin Dash while grounded, or perform a Spin Attack while airborne. Use the grounded move when you want to build into a dash; the airborne move gives you an option while already off the ground. Epic’s launch description does not state exact charge times, distances, or damage values, so those figures should not be assumed. Epic’s v42.00 notes

What did later updates add?
v42.10: Sweeper Shotgun and Loot Hacks
In v42.10, Epic brought back the Sweeper Shotgun with a standard shotgun spread instead of its earlier wide pattern. The update also changed its handling: reloading can be interrupted once shells are loaded, firing is faster at the same damage, the magazine is slightly smaller, and maximum range is shorter. The same update added five options to its new Loot Hack pool: Caduceus Staff, Scorpion’s Combat Kit, Wrecker Revolver, Deadeye Assault Rifle, and Holo Twister Assault Rifle. Epic also adjusted the Pump Shotgun, 8-Bit Shotgun, Assault Rifle, and Mega Buster. Epic’s v42.10 notes
v42.20: Kingdom Key, Sea Salt Ice Cream, and Rebecca’s Guns
- Kingdom Key: a melee weapon with combos and a shocking bolt.
- Sea Salt Ice Cream: heals and restores shield for the user and nearby teammates.
- Rebecca’s Guns: a dual-wielded Assault Rifle/SMG combination. An Exotic version has ricocheting bullets.
Epic also refreshed the hackable chest lineup with the Hyperburst Pistol, Mammoth Pistol, Reaper Sniper Rifle, Deadeye DMR, Flowberry Fizz, and Rocket Ram. These are options in the customizable Loot Hack pool, not a claim that all six are fixed floor loot. In Zero Build, the update specifically names Shield Keg, Rift-To-Go, and Shield Bubble Jr. as pocket-item options. Epic’s v42.20 notes
October Fortnitemares additions and returns
Epic’s October 1 event announcement introduced two weapons to Battle Royale: the Bonerattler SMG, which reveals enemies, and Freddy’s Nightmare, earned by defeating Freddy Krueger at Nightmare Neighborhood and used to teleport into range and slash opponents. The same announcement described the Wood Stake Shotgun and Pumpkin Launcher as returning weapons—not new designs for Chapter 7. Epic said more October content was still to come, so this event roster may change after October 4. Epic’s Fortnitemares announcement
Which Chapter 7 weapons are unvaulted?
“Unvaulted” means a previously available item returned to the loot pool; it does not mean Epic invented a new weapon for Chapter 7. The v42.00 launch notes list these returning items: Pump Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Ranger Assault Rifle, Drum Gun, Minigun, Tactical Pistol, Dual Pistols, Oni Shotgun, Flare Gun, Bass Boost, Overdrive Grenade, and Chug Splash. This is the launch-update list, not a guarantee that each item remains available in the live pool on October 4. Epic’s v42.00 notes
How Loot Hacks, Match Overrides, and Sprites change item choices
Loot Hacks customize chest drops
Loot Hacks let players spend Sprite Dust to customize what can drop from chests. Hacked items can appear in chests, and players can reset their configuration. Because the hackable lineup has been refreshed during the season, a list of options from one update should not be treated as the permanent, universal chest pool. Match Overrides change the match rules
Override Consoles let players claim Match Overrides, which alter rules for a match. Epic’s examples include Extra Life, Constant Heal, Overshield, Speed Shooter, and Big Loot. Some rare Squad Overrides benefit the first squad to claim them and reveal that squad’s location. They influence the conditions around loot and combat rather than serving as ordinary weapons. Epic’s v42.00 notes
What are Fortnite Sprites?
Sprites are collectible companions that grant gameplay powers. Epic’s launch notes describe the Sonic Sprite as enabling faster sprinting, Tails Sprite as allowing hovering, Shadow Sprite as automatically reloading weapons over time, Jackrabbit Sprite as granting another mid-air jump, and Jonesy Sprite as providing health or shield recovery after damage. Sprites were vaulted in Ranked Battle Royale on August 28 while Epic evaluated whether they fit that loot pool; their powers should not be assumed to be active in Ranked. Epic’s v42.00 notes

Choose by what your loadout needs, rather than assuming one item is universally strongest. The official notes do not establish comparative win rates, pick rates, or a complete damage table for this roster.
- Mobility: Sonic Power Sneakers provide movement options; Mega Buster can fire while sprinting or slide-boosting.
- Precision or ranged pressure: Midas’ Masterpiece is a limited-ammo single-fire pistol, while the Mega Buster offers several charged firing options.
- Close-range or melee: the 8-Bit Shotgun and Sweeper Shotgun are shotguns; Kingdom Key is a melee option, while Freddy’s Nightmare is used to teleport close and slash.
- Team sustain: Tetris Rift heals an area, and Sea Salt Ice Cream heals and restores shield for the user and nearby teammates.
- Special effects: Rebecca’s Guns has an Exotic ricochet version; Bonerattler reveals enemies; 1-Up Token restores the eliminated player with their full inventory.
- Mode and pool: distinguish the Zero Build pocket-item options from other loot, and remember the Ranked Sprite vault when planning around those powers.
Epic describes standard Battle Royale as a 100-player match—the player plus 99 others—while Zero Build keeps the Battle Royale format without building mechanics. That mode distinction matters when interpreting the specifically labeled Zero Build pocket-item options. Epic’s Battle Royale page
