Winterfest ran through January 5, 2026, so its presents and event rewards are no longer available as of October 2026. Epic’s announcement confirms the event and its rewards; additional map-location details below come from Insider Gaming, while balance changes come from an Epic-marked v39.11 community post.
What changed in the Fortnite December 18 update?
The December 18, 2025 release combined the start of Winterfest with v39.11 Battle Royale balance and quality-of-life changes. Epic’s official Winterfest announcement focused on the seasonal event, gifts, cosmetics, and festive weapons; it was not a full technical changelog. The weapon adjustments, energy regeneration change, latency update, and Locker search tags were described separately in an Epic-marked v39.11 post.
When did Winterfest 2025 run, and how did the presents work?
Epic said Winterfest 2025 was live from December 18, 2025 at 9 AM ET until January 5, 2026 at 9 AM ET. The cabin refreshed daily at 9 AM ET. It offered 14 presents, with one present available to open each day. Epic’s Winterfest 2025 announcement said players could choose the other gifts in any order, while two cosmetics had unlock requirements:
- Glacial Dummy: unlocked after opening seven other presents.
- Cheeks: unlocked after opening 13 other presents.
The one-present-per-day cadence meant players needed to visit on multiple days to open the full set. The event has ended, and its presents are not currently available.

What map changes came with Winterfest?
Insider Gaming reported that snow spread across the northern part of Fortnite’s main Battle Royale island for Winterfest. The outlet also named four areas it said were modified: Wonkeeland, Tiptop Terrace, Latte Landing, and Painted Palms. These location details were reported by Insider Gaming; Epic’s announcement confirmed the Winterfest theme but did not list those locations.
The report does not establish precise terrain edits, routes, or coordinates, and it should not be treated as a complete list of every changed point of interest.

What quality-of-life changes were in v39.11?
The v39.11 post said Epic changed how the in-game latency figure is calculated. The number was changed to reflect network latency rather than combining network latency with server processing time. The post also said holiday-themed Locker cosmetics gained search tags, making them easier to find in the Locker.
Were the v39.20 preview items part of the December 18 update?
No. The v39.11 post presented v39.20 items as planned work for after New Year, including OG sky lighting adjustments and bug fixes. Those were previews, not changes identified as live in the December 18 v39.11 release.
