Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFortnite Festival’s Pro Lead and Pro Bass work with a supported guitar controller, a keyboard and mouse, a remapped gamepad, or an accessibility device. The essential action is the same: hold the fret matching the note color and press Strum at the note’s timing. If Pro parts are missing, enable them in the Festival settings; if notes feel early or late, run the in-game Tune-up calibration with the display, audio output and controller you actually use.
How Pro Lead and Pro Bass work
Pro Lead and Pro Bass use five colored fret lanes—Green, Red, Yellow, Blue and Orange—plus a Strum input. To play a note, hold the corresponding colored fret and press Strum at the correct moment. Pressing the fret alone is not enough, and strumming without the matching fret does not play the intended note.

These parts are available on current and future Jam Tracks. A guitar controller can also play non-Pro parts, including vocals or drums, so selecting a different instrument does not mean the controller is unsupported.

Hammer-On and Pull-Off notes
Pro parts replace Festival’s Lift Notes with Hammer-On and Pull-Off (HOPO) notes. During a combo, a HOPO can be activated by pressing the matching note-color keybind without pressing Strum. Regular notes still require the fret and a simultaneous Strum.

Make Pro Lead and Pro Bass appear
Supported guitar controllers should expose Pro Lead and Pro Bass automatically. If the parts do not appear in the song or instrument-selection screens, turn on the setting that forces them to remain visible.
- From the lobby, select Festival Main Stage.
- Open the profile menu, then choose Settings.
- Open the Game tab and select Festival.
- Turn on Always Display Pro Parts.
- Select Apply, then return to the song and instrument selection.
This setting changes visibility; it does not turn an unsupported guitar into a compatible one. If the option is enabled but the instrument is still unavailable, check the controller connection, platform version and adapter requirements before changing gameplay settings.

Game-controller defaults
Epic’s documented controller defaults use shoulder buttons for Strumming and triggers for Overdrive and whammy. Fret and action layouts can vary by device. Controls are customizable in-game, and Epic’s controls documentation notes that controls vary according to the device being used.
If a gamepad’s default layout is uncomfortable, open the in-game controller settings and assign the fret, Strum, Overdrive and whammy actions to inputs you can press reliably. Test the new layout in a song rather than assuming a remap saved correctly.

Calibrate audio, video and input timing
Calibration compensates for the complete chain between your game, display, audio system and controller. A television’s processing, Bluetooth audio, a soundbar and wireless controller can each change when a note appears or when your action reaches the game. There is no single millisecond value that is correct for every setup.
Run the automatic Tune-up test
- Enter Main Stage.
- Speak to the Stage Tech on the right side of the stage.
- Select Tune-up.
- Run the tests for Audio/Video Offset and Input Latency.
- Play a song using the same display, audio output and controller you intend to use for Festival.
The Tune-up screen also provides an Optimize Manually path. Use it if the automatic result still feels wrong or if the devices you use during calibration differ from the devices used during play.
Interpret early and late hits
- Notes appear late: the game is showing the target after the sound or visual cue you are using. Re-run Audio/Video Offset with the actual display and audio path, then make a small manual adjustment.
- Your input registers late: run Input Latency again with the same controller connection and mode used in play.
- Timing alternates unpredictably: remove changing variables first. Avoid switching between built-in television speakers, Bluetooth headphones and a soundbar while testing, and do not calibrate with one controller before switching to another.
Adjust manually in small steps and retest several patterns, including regular notes and HOPOs. A setting that feels correct on one screen, headset or controller is not a universal recommendation for another setup.

Compatible guitar controllers and platform caveats
The cited compatibility guide identifies three officially compatible guitar controllers. Wireless connection is part of each model’s name or description, but platform SKU matters: an Xbox or PlayStation version is not automatically interchangeable on PC.
| Controller | Fortnite Festival status | Platform and adapter details | Other-game context |
|---|---|---|---|
| PDP Riffmaster Wireless Guitar Controller | Listed as officially compatible | The guide specifically warns that the PlayStation version discussed there does not work on PC. Verify the exact platform SKU before buying. | Not established by the cited compatibility details |
| Rock Band 4 Rivals Wireless Fender Jaguar Guitar | Listed as officially compatible | An Xbox version can work on PC with the required Xbox wireless adapter. PlayStation guitars do not work on PC according to the guide. | Rock Band 4 model |
| Rock Band 4 Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar | Listed as officially compatible | An Xbox version can work on PC with the required Xbox wireless adapter. PlayStation guitars do not work on PC according to the guide. | Rock Band 4 model |
Before purchasing, match the controller’s platform label to the platform on which you will play. For PC use, an Xbox wireless adapter is required for the Xbox versions of the Rock Band 4 guitars described above. The cited compatibility information does not establish current prices or stock, so check the retailer and platform listing at the time of purchase.

Play Pro Lead or Pro Bass without a guitar
You do not need a supported guitar controller. Epic’s v30.00 changes allow Pro Lead and Pro Bass on any console platform or on PC through supported alternate inputs.
- Keyboard and mouse: use the documented 1–5 fret keys, Right Shift or Enter for Strum, Page Down for Overdrive and Right Ctrl for whammy, or assign different keys in the controls menu.
- Controller-to-keyboard remapping: map gamepad buttons to the keyboard actions, then use the resulting fret and Strum inputs in Festival.
- Accessibility devices: use an accessibility input device that can send the configured fret, Strum and effect actions.
Whichever route you choose, keep the five fret actions physically distinct and place Strum where it can be pressed at the same time as a fret. Calibrate after changing the input method because a remapped device can introduce different input latency.
Troubleshoot the most common setup problems
Pro Lead or Pro Bass is missing
- Confirm that you are entering the song from Festival Main Stage, not a different game mode.
- Enable Settings → Game → Festival → Always Display Pro Parts and select Apply.
- Return to instrument selection and check the part again.
- If it remains unavailable, verify that the controller is one of the officially listed models or use keyboard, remapped-controller or accessibility input instead.
Fret presses work but notes do not register
For regular Pro notes, the matching fret and Strum must overlap at the note timing. A fret press by itself is not a complete input. Check that Strum is assigned to the expected key or button, then test a normal note before testing HOPO behavior.
Notes consistently feel early or late
Open Main Stage → Stage Tech → Tune-up and run both Audio/Video Offset and Input Latency. Keep the same display, audio output and controller connected during testing and play. If the automatic result is uncomfortable, use Optimize Manually and change one offset at a time.
The guitar connects but PC does not recognize it
Check the platform SKU first. The guide’s PC caveat applies to the exact hardware version: Xbox versions of the listed Rock Band 4 guitars require the Xbox wireless adapter, while the PlayStation guitars described there do not work on PC. A PlayStation-version Riffmaster is also specifically identified as incompatible with PC in that guide.
Overdrive or whammy is hard to use
On keyboard, verify Page Down for Overdrive and Right Ctrl for whammy, or create a more reachable custom layout. On a controller, the documented defaults use triggers for these effects. Test each action in a song after remapping; effect controls are separate from the fret-and-Strum timing needed for ordinary notes.
Quick Recap
A practical setup checklist
- Choose a listed compatible guitar, or decide whether keyboard, remapped controller or accessibility input is more suitable.
- Verify the console or PC platform version before buying, including any required Xbox wireless adapter.
- Enable Always Display Pro Parts if the Pro instruments are not visible.
- Learn the five fret colors and Strum timing before changing advanced settings.
- Run Tune-up with your actual display, audio output and controller.
- Use Optimize Manually only after testing the automatic result, and change offsets in small increments.
- Remember that ordinary notes require fret plus Strum, while HOPO notes in a combo can be played with the matching fret key alone.
