In the Fortnite v42.40 event configuration reported on October 15, 2026, your best search order is Pumpkin chests, ordinary chests, and smashed Pumpkins, with Cheat Codes and some boss rewards also reported as possible sources. Sprite Shrines reveal nearby Sprites but do not guarantee Honey Sprite. If you are in a competitive playlist, Sprites are disabled entirely. Finally, Honey Sprite’s bees use a chance-based effect: a ranged-weapon hit can produce bees, but not every successful hit will.
Use the checklist below to separate a loot-roll problem, a playlist restriction, and a normal failed ability proc before abandoning a match.

What Honey Sprite is—and why it may seem to be missing
Honey Sprite is a live-service Fortnite Sprite. That means its availability depends on the current season, event configuration, loot tables, and playlist rules rather than on a permanent coordinate that exists in every match. The version 42.40 reporting dated October 15, 2026 places Honey Sprite in the active loot pool, but the pool can be changed by a later patch or by ending the event.
Sprites are described by Epic Games support as “little helpers on the battlefield.” They can wander, and broad Sprite guidance does not give them a fixed route or a permanent spawn point. A location that produced Honey Sprite in one match can therefore be empty in the next match even when you are searching the same named area.

There are three different situations that players often call “not spawning”:
- No Honey Sprite item appears: the randomized loot roll did not give you one, or the route is unavailable in your playlist or event configuration.
- A Sprite Shrine reveals something else: the shrine found a nearby Sprite, but it does not promise Honey specifically.
- Bees do not appear after a hit: the ability’s effect is probabilistic, so a hit without bees can be normal.
Identify which situation you have before changing tactics. The fixes are different.
Check your playlist before searching
Epic’s support guidance states that “Sprites are not available for competitive modes.” If you are playing a competitive playlist, Honey Sprite will not appear through chests, Pumpkins, shrines, or other normal routes. Treat this as a mode restriction, not a broken spawn.
How to rule out a competitive-mode restriction
- Return to the Fortnite lobby after the current match.
- Read the selected playlist name and switch from a competitive mode to a standard mode in which Sprites are enabled.
- Start a fresh match after changing the playlist. Do not assume that changing a setting during an existing match will add Sprites to that match’s loot generation.
- Search the current event routes described below.
If Honey Sprite appears in a non-competitive match, the earlier absence was caused by playlist rules. If it still does not appear, continue with the loot and event checks.

Where to look for Honey Sprite in v42.40
The current guidance is loot-driven rather than coordinate-driven. Search several independent sources because one chest cluster or one Pumpkin group can simply fail its random roll.
Pumpkin chests: start here
In the v42.40 reporting, Pumpkin chests are the first search target for Honey Sprite. Land near a cluster, open every Pumpkin chest you can reach, and check the surrounding ground before moving on. A chest that contains another item has used its roll; reopening or waiting beside it will not reroll the contents.
Ordinary chests: broaden the search
Continue through ordinary chests after the nearest Pumpkin chests are exhausted. Ordinary chests are a reported route in the same event configuration, but there is no published Honey Sprite percentage. Do not interpret several empty chests as proof that the Sprite has been removed; randomized loot can produce a run with no Honey Sprite.

Smashed Pumpkins are another reported source in the current configuration. Break the Pumpkins in and around the area you are looting, then look for a dropped Sprite or other resulting item before rotating away. Because the event can alter which objects are active, this route may disappear after a patch.

Cheat Codes and boss rewards
Current secondary reporting also lists Cheat Codes and some boss rewards as possible routes. These are not described as guaranteed drops, and the available guidance does not establish a universal boss, reward tier, or drop rate. Use them as additional opportunities rather than as a replacement for chest and Pumpkin searches.
What a Sprite Shrine does—and does not do
A Sprite Shrine is a reveal tool. Interact with it to expose nearby Sprites, then scan the revealed area and follow the Sprite rather than assuming the shrine itself contains Honey Sprite.
The shrine does not create a Honey Sprite, convert another Sprite into Honey, or guarantee that any Sprite is present in the exact interaction spot. It can reveal a different Sprite, or reveal nothing useful for your particular search. Treat it as a way to reduce wandering and travel time, not as a guaranteed Honey dispenser.

Efficient shrine use
- Interact with the shrine only after checking the immediate chest and Pumpkin routes, unless the shrine is already on your path.
- Watch the reveal carefully and search the full nearby area; Sprites can move rather than remain on the shrine.
- If the revealed Sprite is not Honey, decide whether collecting it helps your loadout before spending time following it.
- Move to another loot cluster if the reveal does not produce Honey Sprite. A shrine cannot be forced to reroll by repeated interaction.

A reliable troubleshooting workflow
Run these checks in order. They are designed to eliminate the most common false diagnoses without assuming a spawn percentage that has not been published.

- Confirm the version and event. The Pumpkin-chest, smashed-Pumpkin, Cheat Code, and boss-reward routes describe the v42.40 configuration reported October 15, 2026. If your game has updated since then, read the latest Epic patch or support information and current event notes. Loot pools can change between updates.
- Leave competitive playlists. Select a non-competitive mode with Sprite support and start a new match. Competitive matches will not provide Sprites.
- Choose a chest-heavy landing route. Prioritize Pumpkin chests, open every one you can safely reach, and inspect nearby ground drops.
- Expand to ordinary chests. If the first Pumpkin cluster is empty, continue through ordinary chests instead of repeatedly checking the same containers.
- Break nearby Pumpkins. Search the event objects around the landing area and collect any resulting item before rotating.
- Use a Sprite Shrine as a reveal. Interact, scan the revealed zone, and follow the Sprite. Do not count the shrine itself as a Honey guarantee.
- Rotate to another cluster. Loot is randomized. Move to a different chest group or start a new match when the current route is exhausted. A fresh match gives the loot system another independent set of rolls.
- Record the result by source. Note whether you checked Pumpkin chests, ordinary chests, smashed Pumpkins, and shrines. This prevents confusing “I searched one area” with “Honey Sprite is absent everywhere.”
Why bees did not appear after your hit
Finding and activating Honey Sprite are separate steps. The bee effect is chance-based after you deal damage with a ranged weapon. A successful hit can trigger bees at the hit location, but the effect will not occur on every hit. No authoritative source in the current guidance publishes a trigger percentage, so any exact number would be speculation.
Test the ability without misreading a normal failure
- Select Honey Sprite in your active Sprite slot.
- Equip a ranged weapon rather than relying on a melee attack or environmental damage.
- Deal clear damage to a valid target at a range where you can see the impact point.
- Watch the hit location for the bee effect. The effect is tied to the damage event, not to merely carrying Honey Sprite.
- Repeat across several hits before concluding that the ability is malfunctioning. One hit without bees is expected under a probabilistic effect.
If repeated ranged hits never produce bees, first confirm that Honey Sprite remains selected, that the weapon is registering damage, and that you are still in a mode with Sprites enabled. Then test again in a fresh match after checking for a new patch or event change.

“There must be one fixed Honey Sprite location.”
There is no confirmed permanent Honey Sprite coordinate. Sprites can wander and the loot pool is randomized, so map guides that promise one exact spot can become inaccurate or describe a different event configuration.
“A shrine guarantees the Honey variant.”
It does not. The shrine reveals nearby Sprites; it does not select Honey Sprite or create one.

“Every ranged hit should create bees.”
The proc is probabilistic. A hit without bees does not, by itself, indicate a bug.
“The same route must work next season.”
Honey Sprite is version-gated and event-driven. Pumpkin chests, smashed Pumpkins, Cheat Codes, and boss rewards can be enabled, changed, or removed by later updates.
When to stop searching and restart
Restarting is sensible when you have checked a complete Pumpkin-chest cluster, several ordinary chests, the surrounding smashed Pumpkins, and at least one available shrine in a supported playlist without finding Honey Sprite. Because there is no confirmed guarantee or published spawn rate, spending the rest of a match circling one empty area does not improve the odds in a known way. A fresh match provides new randomized loot and a clean event state.

Restarting will not fix a competitive playlist restriction. Change the playlist first. It also will not make every bee proc; ability testing still requires multiple ranged hits and correct equipment.
How to keep advice current after a patch
Use the date and version attached to any spawn tip. The routes summarized here are for the v42.40 configuration reported October 15, 2026. After a major Fortnite update, check Epic Games’ current support information and patch notes for two things: whether Sprites remain enabled in your playlist and whether the event loot objects are still active. If those pages do not list a Honey-specific table, treat chest and Pumpkin routes as practical current-season guidance rather than a permanent rule.
Do not rely on a claimed percentage unless Epic or a reproducible, clearly dated test publishes one. The available authoritative guidance confirms the Sprite mechanic and the competitive-mode restriction, but it does not provide a Honey Sprite-specific drop table or trigger statistic.
