Yes—Fortnite is officially back on Apple’s App Store in most regions. Epic Games announced the return on May 19, 2026, and the official U.S. listing is live. Australia remains the explicit exception named by Epic, while availability can also depend on your Apple Account region, device, operating-system version and local restrictions.
Where Fortnite is available on Apple devices
Epic says Fortnite returned to the App Store worldwide on May 19, 2026, but its announcement specifically excludes Australia. The U.S. App Store listing is live at Apple’s official Fortnite page. A listing in one country does not guarantee that the same app appears in every Apple Account storefront.

There are three distinct ways to play on Apple hardware:
- App Store: Native installation through Apple’s standard store where the listing is available.
- Epic Games Store Mobile or AltStore PAL: Alternative distribution routes with regional limits. Epic identifies the Epic Games Store Mobile as available on iPhone and iPad in the European Union and on iPhone in Japan. Brazil expansion is planned for later in 2026.
- Cloud streaming: Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna can run Fortnite remotely in supported regions, without a native installation.
Epic’s installation guidance is available on its official support page.

Why Fortnite disappeared from Apple’s store
In 2020, Epic added a direct-payment option to Fortnite, bypassing Apple’s required in-app payment system. Apple removed the game, and Epic sued, challenging Apple’s App Store rules and commissions. The litigation produced mixed results rather than a complete Epic victory.
The dispute later concentrated on whether Apple complied with court orders involving external payment links and commission rules. The Associated Press reports that Apple historically collected roughly 15% to 30% on qualifying in-app transactions and that a later system imposed a 27% commission on some payments made through outside links. See the Associated Press legal overview for that context.
What triggered the return?
Epic attributes the return to legal pressure over Apple’s payment practices. The company said it would not return under terms it considered unlawful and presented the relaunch as part of its continuing campaign for alternative app stores, payment competition and lower fees. Epic’s announcement does not describe a final settlement, and it says the broader challenge to Apple’s policies will continue.

How to install Fortnite from the App Store
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
- Search for Fortnite.
- Check that the publisher is Epic Games and that you have selected the official listing.
- Tap Get or the download button, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple Account password.

- Allow the app to download any additional game data.
Use the same Epic account you use on other platforms if you want your supported progression and purchases associated with that account.

Supported iPhones and iPads
The U.S. App Store listing identifies these device families as compatible:
| Device | Supported models listed by Apple |
|---|---|
| iPhone | iPhone XS and newer; iPhone 11 and newer; iPhone 12 mini and newer; iPhone SE (third generation) and newer |
| iPad | iPad Pro 10.5-inch and newer; iPad Air (fourth generation) and newer; iPad (tenth generation) and newer; iPad mini (sixth generation) and newer |
Compatibility means the app can install; it does not promise identical frame rates, graphics settings, battery life or heat levels across every listed model.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

If Fortnite does not appear in search
- Check your Apple Account’s country or region. The App Store catalog follows the account storefront, not simply your physical location.
- Open Epic’s official iPhone and iPad page instead of using third-party download sites.
- Confirm that your device is on Apple’s compatibility list and install available iOS or iPadOS updates.
- Review Screen Time, parental-control and age restrictions that could hide the listing.
- Search for the publisher name, Epic Games, and verify the official listing.
- If native installation is unavailable in your region, use an officially supported cloud service.
For users in Australia, Epic’s own announcement still says the App Store return has not occurred. Do not install random IPA files, configuration profiles or unofficial “Fortnite installers”; they are not legitimate substitutes for Epic’s listed distribution methods.
Alternative installation on iPhone and iPad
Epic Games Store Mobile
Epic lists its mobile store for iPhone and iPad in the European Union, and for iPhone in Japan. The stated requirements are iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 18 or later on iPad. Availability and installation prompts are governed by Apple’s regional alternative-marketplace rules. Details are on Epic’s mobile-store page.
AltStore PAL
Epic’s support information identifies AltStore PAL as another Fortnite route in the European Union and Japan. It is a third-party marketplace option, not an App Store download. See Epic’s third-party installation guidance.

Cloud gaming
Cloud streaming is useful when the native app is unavailable, the device is below the compatibility floor, or you want to avoid a large local download. Fortnite lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna as options. Streaming depends on supported-region access, provider availability, a stable connection, server queues and network latency; it is not equivalent to an offline native installation.

Epic says the mobile versions support cross-platform account progression. Sign in with the Epic account that holds your existing progress rather than creating a duplicate account; using the wrong account can make cosmetics or progression appear to be missing.
Epic describes the mobile versions as full Fortnite experiences with cross-platform play. Touch controls differ from a console controller, keyboard or mouse, and performance varies by hardware. Download size, update time, battery use, heat and frame rate also vary. Cloud versions add streaming latency and image-quality changes because the game runs on a remote server.

What the return means for Apple and Epic
For players, the return restores an official native download on supported Apple devices across most regions. For the companies, it shows that a major publisher can re-enter Apple’s distribution system after a prolonged payment dispute, but it does not establish that Apple’s commission model has disappeared or that the legal conflict is over.
Epic continues to criticize Apple’s fees, payment controls and alternative-store policies. The May 19, 2026 announcement frames Fortnite’s return as another stage in that fight, not as confirmation of a permanent settlement.
