As of August 18, 2026, Android players can install it from Google Play worldwide or the Epic Games Store. iPhone and iPad users can use Apple’s App Store in most regions, including the United States, while Australia remains excluded from Epic’s latest App Store announcement. Users in the European Union also have the Epic Games Store option on iPhone and iPad.
The 2024 EU launch was not the final global return: Google Play availability arrived on March 19, 2026, followed by the App Store rollout on May 19, 2026.
What “back” means in 2026
Fortnite’s distribution changed through several milestones:
- August 16, 2024: Epic Games Store launched on Android worldwide and on iPhone and iPad in the European Union.

- May 19, 2026: Epic announced the game’s return to Apple’s App Store around the world, with Australia specifically excluded: Epic’s App Store announcement.
That means most players no longer need cloud gaming, old installers or unofficial workarounds to play Fortnite on a phone or tablet.

- Open Google Play.
- Search for Fortnite and verify Epic Games as the developer.

Epic Games Store
- Download the official Epic Games app from Epic’s mobile page.
- Install it, approving Android’s installation permission if Android asks.
- Open the Epic Games Store, select Fortnite and tap Install.
- Keep the store app installed if you want it to deliver future updates.
Epic lists Android 8 (SDK 26) or later as the Epic Games Store app minimum and recommends Android 14 (SDK 34) or later for optimal performance. Those are storefront requirements, not a promise that every Android 8 phone will run Fortnite well.
Is this the full Fortnite experience?
Epic describes Fortnite and Fall Guys on mobile as full mobile versions with cross-platform play and cross-platform account progression. You can play with console and PC users and retain progression by signing in to the same Epic account. Cosmetic ownership and V-Bucks are generally shared across supported platforms, although platform-specific purchase rules can apply.

“Full” does not mean identical to a console or PC build. Touch controls, supported controllers, graphics options, frame-rate targets, heat, battery drain and loading performance vary by device. A reliable connection and adequate free storage are also essential.
Why Fortnite disappeared from mobile
In August 2020, Epic added a direct-payment option inside Fortnite. Apple and Google treated that payment flow as a breach of their store rules and removed the game. Epic sued both companies, making the dispute part of a wider fight over app-store commissions, payment restrictions and alternative distribution.

The returns therefore occurred in stages as litigation, court orders, settlements and regulation changed the available storefront arrangements. The 2026 launches did not end every dispute: Epic’s App Store announcement says the Australian issue remains unresolved. Statements about the legality of Apple’s or Google’s policies should be understood as positions in that continuing conflict unless a specific court ruling is cited.

Choosing an installation route
| Route | Best for | Main advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store | Most iPhone and iPad users outside Australia | Simplest installation, automatic updates and normal Apple account controls | Regional availability depends on the Apple Account storefront; Australia remains excluded in Epic’s latest announcement. |
| Epic Games Store on iPhone or iPad | EU users wanting Epic’s alternative storefront | Direct Epic distribution and an alternative to Apple’s store | EU-only route with extra authorization steps and newer OS requirements. |
| Google Play | Most Android users | Familiar installation, updates, parental controls and no sideloading prompts | Google Play policies and rollout processes still apply. |
| Epic Games Store on Android | Users who prefer Epic’s direct store | Direct Epic distribution and access to other Epic mobile titles | Requires an app installed outside Google Play; Android may show security warnings and ask for permission changes. |
Troubleshooting missing listings and installation problems
Fortnite does not appear
- Check the Apple Account or Google Play country.
- Confirm the device model and operating-system version.
- If you are on an iPhone or iPad in Australia, note the exception in Epic’s May 2026 announcement.
- Search for the listing under Epic Games, not a similarly named unofficial app.
- Check parental controls, school or enterprise management profiles and available storage.
The Epic Games Store will not install
- Verify the required iOS, iPadOS or Android version.
- On Android, allow installation from the browser or file manager only when prompted by the official Epic download.
- Use Epic’s official domain, not a third-party APK or IPA mirror.
- Managed devices may block alternative marketplaces or unknown-app installation.
The game installs but performs poorly
Store compatibility is not a performance guarantee. Chipset and GPU capability, RAM, thermal throttling, free storage, network quality, graphics settings and frame-rate targets all affect play. A newer operating system and current game build can also matter.
An old installation no longer works
Confirm that your progress is synchronized to your Epic account, then reinstall from the official store and sign in with that same account. Do not use modified packages, old APKs or unofficial IPA files.
You are outside a supported iPhone region
Do not routinely evade storefront restrictions with a VPN, region switching or unofficial packages. Those methods can create account, payment, security and update problems and may breach platform terms. Cloud gaming can be a fallback where a legitimate service supports your device and region, but it adds latency and bandwidth requirements.
