Epic Games acknowledged on November 6, 2025, that a portrait of Apu in Fortnite’s Moe’s Tavern had an unintended appearance error. The company said it was being adjusted in the next release, but the sources available do not confirm that the change shipped or establish whether the portrait is corrected now.
What was the Apu error in Fortnite?
During Fortnite’s Simpsons-themed season, players noticed that a portrait of the Be Sharps quartet inside Moe’s Tavern showed Apu with the same yellow skin tone as Homer, Barney, and Principal Skinner. That did not match Apu’s familiar appearance in The Simpsons.
GameSpot also reported that another image in the tavern showed Apu with the skin tone familiar from the television series. The criticism concerned the Be Sharps portrait; the separate image suggested the mismatch was limited to that particular asset, rather than a broader change to how Apu was depicted.
GameSpot’s November 6, 2025 report and VideoGamer’s November 6, 2025 report covered the portrait and Epic’s response.

What did Epic say?
Epic’s reported statement was: “This wasn’t intentional. It’s being adjusted in our next release.” GameSpot attributed the words to Epic; VideoGamer said the response came through the official Fortnite Status account.
Epic acknowledged the appearance error and said an adjustment was planned. The statement did not explain how the mismatch happened or identify the release that would carry the change.

Did Fortnite fix the Apu portrait?
The reviewed sources do not verify that the correction shipped, so it is not possible to confirm from them whether the portrait is fixed now. Epic’s November 6 statement described a planned adjustment, not a confirmed completed fix.
Epic’s official v39.00 Battle Royale update notes, published November 29, 2025, document the start of Chapter Seven but do not mention the Apu portrait. Those notes cannot establish whether a correction appeared in an earlier release, in v39.00, or remains in the game today.

What happened next with The Simpsons in Fortnite?
On June 18, 2026, Epic announced that The Simpsons was joining Fortnite’s IP Partner Program and that an official creator toolkit was planned for later in 2026. The announcement indicates continued official cooperation, but it does not confirm anything about the portrait adjustment.
In the same announcement, Epic said more than 80 million players spent over 750 million hours playing during the Fortnite | Simpsons season in fall 2025. That is a figure reported by Epic, not an independently verified count. See Epic’s June 18, 2026 announcement.
