There is no reliable, season-proof ranking of Fortnite containers. In Battle Royale’s Chapter 7 Season 4, documented by Epic on August 20, 2026, Loot Hacks let players spend Sprite Dust to customize bonus items from chests. That can make a chest more useful when its bonus matches what you need, but it does not establish that chests are always the best choice. For other containers, weigh the likely benefit against the time and exposure involved in reaching them.
Which Fortnite containers should you search?
Start with the container that fits your immediate need and is practical to reach. A nearby search may be worthwhile if your inventory has a clear gap; a detour can be a poor trade if it delays movement or leaves you exposed. This is a tactical decision framework, not a measured ranking of loot value.
- Need match: Consider whether the container could address what your inventory lacks. In Chapter 7 Season 4, a chosen chest Loot Hack could add bonus items, but Epic’s announcement does not establish each Hack’s detailed contents or drop rates. Epic’s Fortnite news index documents seasonal updates, but does not provide a current comparative loot table.
- Route cost: Prefer containers already along a sensible route over those that require a substantial detour, unless the potential benefit matters more than the time cost.
- Exposure: Judge whether searching leaves you in a vulnerable or predictable position. This depends on the location and match, not on a verified rule that one container class always attracts opponents.
- Match context: Storm timing, squad condition, inventory gaps, and mode rules may matter more than any general preference.
What the current chest mechanic changes
Epic’s August 20, 2026 Chapter 7 Season 4: Override article describes Loot Hacks as a way to spend Sprite Dust to customize bonus items dropped from Battle Royale chests. If a selected Hack’s bonus suits your needs, that can make searching a chest strategically relevant. The announcement does not show that every player receives identical contents, that a chest guarantees a useful item, or that chests have the highest average value.
Fortnite’s loot and modes change over time. Epic’s news index featured Fortnitemares 2026 on October 1, 2026, while its Battle Royale archive dates the Chapter Seven v39.00 Update Notes to November 29, 2025. Those pages show ongoing updates and an archive of earlier notes; they do not establish current container contents, spawn rates, or odds. Check the active season’s official notes for mechanics before relying on a particular chest bonus.

Are supply drops, llamas, ammo boxes, or safes worth going for?
No current official comparison establishes the expected value, spawn frequency, or search efficiency of supply drops, llamas, ammo boxes, safes, or other container classes. Treat each as a situational opportunity: weigh its likely relevance to your inventory against the route, time, and exposure. Without current comparable loot data, a definitive tier list would be misleading.

Historical patch notes illustrate how much loot rules can vary by update and mode. Epic’s March 15, 2018 v3.3 notes described Supply Llamas as extremely rare, with only three created per match, and listed specific materials, ammunition, traps, and consumables. Those are old mechanics, not current llama contents or odds.

Epic’s v3.5 notes also described a limited-time mode with altered loot: ammo boxes gave triple ammo, while chests gave double ammo and consumables. That was a mode-specific change from 2018, not a rule for present-day Battle Royale. Historical figures should not be used to predict current container value.
