Fortnite OG returned on December 6, 2024, as an ongoing Battle Royale mode. Epic announced that it was “here to stay,” with the experience starting at the original Chapter 1 Season 1 and revisiting Fortnite’s older seasons over time. “Permanent” means the mode remains part of Fortnite; it does not mean the game is locked to one unchanging season.
What Epic announced about Fortnite OG
On November 12, 2024, Epic announced that Fortnite OG would become a permanent mode, launching on December 6, 2024. The announcement described a return to “day one of Season 1” and said the mode’s first-day loot pool would match the original Chapter 1 Season 1 pool, with additional items unvaulted as the season progressed. Epic’s announcement called it: “Fortnite OG is here to stay!”

That launch date is in the past. Epic’s mode listing describes OG as an ongoing offering whose seasons run approximately two months and revisit historic loot and features. That cadence means the experience can change between seasons rather than preserving the exact launch-day map and loot indefinitely. The listing names Solos and Squads; Epic’s launch announcement also identified Zero Build.
How the permanent mode differs from 2023’s Season OG
Fortnite’s 2023 “Season OG” was a time-limited Battle Royale season that moved through phases of the game’s past. Epic said it would begin with Chapter 1 Season 5, with each major update bringing a different phase. Its 2023 announcement describes that retrospective.

So the 2024 announcement was not simply a promise to repeat the 2023 event. Epic presented Fortnite OG as a continuing place to play classic Battle Royale, beginning from an earlier point in the game’s history.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
Epic Player Support answers “Is Fortnite OG only here for a limited time?” by saying OG is back and here to stay. Read that as confirmation of the mode’s ongoing status, not a guarantee that every historical map, item, or playlist will remain available at all times. The announcement and general mode description do not establish the active OG season, current map changes, loot pool, or playlist rotation on October 8, 2026. For those live details, check Fortnite in-game or consult a dated official update.

Epic’s support answer is useful for the limited-time question; it should not be read as a schedule for the current rotation.
