Fortnite Save the World is free to play, but its launch pre-registration campaign has ended. You can play now by downloading Fortnite on a supported platform and selecting Save the World from the game’s Play screen; signing up now will not qualify you for the launch rewards.
Can you still pre-register for Save the World?
No. Epic’s website-based campaign required registration before April 16, 2026, the day Save the World became free to play. Players who registered by that deadline receive the community rewards unlocked during the campaign, which included a Save the World Hero. The campaign was for launch rewards, not a continuing sign-up requirement for access. Epic’s March 11, 2026 announcement explains the campaign, and the Save the World page confirms the deadline and reward condition.
How to play Save the World now
- Download Fortnite on a supported platform.
- Launch Fortnite and select Play.
- Under Other Experiences by Epic, select the Save the World tile.
Epic’s current support instructions say no purchase is required. Epic also says the Starter Packs that previously included Save the World access are no longer available for purchase. Its purchase-support page confirms the change.
Which platforms support Save the World?
Epic lists PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 as supported. Save the World is not available on the original Nintendo Switch, smartphones, or tablets. The distinction between Switch 2 and the original Switch matters: the original console is explicitly excluded by Epic’s platform guidance.

What free players and Founders receive
Epic says all players have access to the full Save the World experience, but the in-game currency routes differ:
- Free players: Earn X-Ray Tickets, which can be used for llamas and in-game shop items.
- Founders: Players who bought Save the World before it went free retain specified V-Bucks earning routes, including Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, and Storm Shield Defense missions. Epic’s launch announcement also refers to existing Challenges.
New free players should not expect to earn V-Bucks through the Founders’ routes. The currency distinction is described in Epic’s Save the World support article and free-to-play announcement.

Save the World’s expired campaign was run through the game’s website and tied sign-ups to community rewards. Epic Games Store also has a general pre-registration feature for eligible games; its FAQ says store pre-registration is free and adds the game to a user’s Library, but does not itself promise rewards, items, currency, or early access. That general store feature is separate from Save the World’s launch campaign.
