Epic says you can buy the same Sidekick again, but each owned version must have a unique appearance. The currently listed price for Spike is 1,200 V-Bucks; that is Spike’s price, not a confirmed price for every Sidekick.
How Sidekick customization works
Epic’s support guidance says you can customize a Sidekick’s appearance one time after obtaining it. Once you lock in your choices, they are permanent. In practice, that means you should decide on the appearance before confirming it rather than expecting to revise the same owned Sidekick later.
Epic also says you can purchase the same Sidekick multiple times and give each one a different appearance. The appearances must be unique: you cannot use a duplicate customization for another copy.
What a Sidekick costs
Epic’s Spike item listing showed a price of 1,200 V-Bucks when accessed on October 8, 2026. That figure applies to Spike on that listing; it should not be treated as a universal Sidekick price. The listing said Spike was purchasable until October 12, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. local time (GMT+00:00), so both shop availability and listed prices can change.

- PEELY: Board the Battle Bus and drop in with Fortnite Legendary Peely!

For a different Sidekick, check its own item listing before buying. The purchase decision is not just the displayed price: consider whether you are happy with the one-time appearance choice, whether a different unique appearance would mean purchasing another copy, and whether the island where you plan to play allows Sidekicks.
Why Sidekicks drew criticism at launch
PiunikaWeb reported on October 31, 2025, that players criticized the one-time customization rule and discussed leak-era prices ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 V-Bucks. That range was reported in launch coverage, not published as an official Epic price schedule, and it is not a current price guide for all Sidekicks.

PC Gamer’s October 30, 2025, launch coverage also called attention to the permanent appearance choice, contrasting it with outfit cosmetics that can be changed. These reports establish that the policy prompted criticism in launch coverage; they do not establish how widespread that reaction was. No representative survey or official count of players objecting to the policy is available in the cited sources.
Epic’s support and item pages explain the customization rules, but do not give a business or technical reason for making the choice permanent. Any explanation of Epic’s motive would therefore be speculation.

Where Sidekicks can appear
Sidekicks can accompany players across Fortnite experiences, including Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite and developer-made experiences, according to PC Gamer’s launch report. There is an important island-level condition: Epic says Sidekicks appear only on islands whose developers have enabled them. Owning one does not guarantee it will be available in every experience.
