Fortnite joined Xbox Play Anywhere on November 18, 2025, the same day Fortnite Crew became a benefit included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The game remains free to play; Ultimate adds Crew’s passes and monthly V-Bucks rather than being required to access Fortnite.
What changed, and when?
Xbox announced the update on November 14, 2025. Beginning November 18, Fortnite launched on Xbox PC and joined Xbox Play Anywhere. On that same date, Fortnite Crew became part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. These changes are already in effect.
Xbox described Play Anywhere as allowing Fortnite progress and purchases to follow players across Xbox consoles, PC, and supported gaming handhelds. Microsoft’s developer documentation explains that the program supports cross-progression and cross-entitlement between supported Xbox console and PC versions; it does not promise identical support on every device or for every feature.
Xbox Wire’s November 14, 2025 announcement has the Fortnite-specific details, while Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere documentation describes the program. [Note: source URL omitted?]

- LEGO Pass
- Music Pass
- 1,000 V-Bucks each month

How to access the benefits
- Before buying Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, connect your Xbox account to your Epic Games account. Epic Games Support’s account-linking instructions explain how to connect them.
- Sign in to Fortnite on an Xbox console, Xbox on PC, or a supported gaming handheld. Xbox says members begin accruing the Crew benefits by logging into Fortnite and Rocket League on one of those devices.
If you already subscribe to Fortnite Crew or have questions about how an existing subscription or billing arrangement is handled, check current Epic and Xbox support guidance. The published announcement and account-linking instructions do not establish every migration or billing outcome.
Do you need Game Pass to play Fortnite?
No. Microsoft lists Fortnite as free in the Xbox Store, with in-app purchases. Game Pass Ultimate is relevant to the bundled Crew benefits, not a requirement to play the free game. The Store listing is available from Microsoft’s Fortnite page.

What Xbox Play Anywhere does—and does not—cover
Play Anywhere connects supported Xbox console and PC versions, including cross-progression and cross-entitlement where implemented. For Fortnite, Xbox specifically says progress and purchases can follow players across Xbox consoles, PC, and supported gaming handhelds. Do not read that as a guarantee that every third-party platform, launcher, device, or account system shares the same purchases or progress.
Microsoft says its Play Anywhere catalog has more than 1,000 enabled titles, a program-wide figure current on its page as of October 8, 2026—not a Fortnite player count or adoption statistic. Fortnite’s inclusion is confirmed in the Xbox Store listing.

Is Ultimate worth it if you play Fortnite?
The Fortnite-specific value depends on your situation. Consider whether you want the Crew passes and monthly V-Bucks, whether you play across supported Xbox devices and value continuity, whether you already pay for Crew separately, and whether the rest of the current Ultimate bundle is useful to you.
Xbox described Fortnite Crew as a standalone subscription worth $11.99 per month in its November 14, 2025 announcement. That is a dated 2025 figure, not a verified current price or a price for every region. The cited material does not establish current October 2026 Ultimate pricing, regional eligibility, or how every existing Crew billing arrangement is treated, so it is not enough to calculate a reliable saving for a particular subscriber.
