Epic announced that Reload and Blitz Royale would return on December 4, 2025, and Fortnite OG on December 11, 2025—not that the modes were being permanently removed.
Why Fortnite’s three modes went offline
Epic’s November 29, 2025 Chapter Seven: Pacific Break v39.00 update notes introduced a story disruption: the Battle Bus was out of commission, so players would “Storm Surf” to the island in its absence. The interruption affected Reload, Blitz Royale and Fortnite OG as the new chapter began.

The shutdown was presented as part of that Battle Bus story beat, not a permanent cancellation. Epic’s update notes supplied return dates for all three modes.
When each mode was scheduled to return
| Mode | Epic’s announced return | Map or season detail |
|---|---|---|
| Reload | December 4, 2025 | New Surf City map |
| Blitz Royale | December 4, 2025 | New Starfall Island map |
| Fortnite OG | December 11, 2025 | With Season 7 |
In its v39.00 notes, Epic wrote: “Once the Battle Bus is back in commission on December 4, Reload will come back online with the new Surf City map, Blitz Royale will light back up with the new Starfall Island, and Ranked will return.” Epic separately scheduled Fortnite OG to return with Season 7 on December 11.

What to know about the reported shutdown message
A November 30, 2025 Beebom report said leaker FireMonkey had shared a prelaunch message attributed to Epic. The report quoted it as saying the Dark Voyager had severed ties to “Reload, Blitz, and OG.” That specific wording is secondhand reporting; Epic’s official update notes establish the Battle Bus disruption and scheduled returns, but do not independently verify the alleged message.
The naming differs slightly: Beebom’s reported message says “Blitz,” while Epic’s update notes call the mode “Blitz Royale.”
