Fortnite Trees Look Low-Resolution in Performance Mode: What to Check

Blurry trees may reflect Performance Mode’s graphics tradeoff, but Epic has not confirmed a current tree-specific bug. Here are the settings and general checks to try.

If trees look blurry or low-detail in Fortnite’s Performance Mode, that appearance may reflect the mode’s graphics-for-frame-rate tradeoff—not a confirmed tree-specific bug. Epic’s current guidance does not identify a known tree-rendering defect or publish a tree-specific fix. Start by checking 3D Resolution and graphics settings, then work through driver, GPU-selection, and game-file checks.

Why trees can look less detailed in Performance Mode

Epic says Performance Mode improves frame rate on lower-powered systems by lowering graphical fidelity. That tradeoff can make the game look less detailed, but Epic does not specifically name tree rendering as the cause of blurry or low-resolution trees. Epic’s Performance Mode guidance and the Fortnite Team’s explanation of Performance Mode describe the broader performance tradeoff.

Epic’s current support pages cover general graphics and performance troubleshooting; they do not establish that poor-looking trees are a current known bug or confirm that a patch has fixed one. Older player reports about blurry trees are anecdotal and do not establish the current status.

Check the settings that affect visual clarity

Before changing anything, note your rendering mode, texture and mesh settings, and 3D Resolution. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it improves the image and what it does to frame rate.

Set 3D Resolution to 100% as a starting point

Epic’s graphics troubleshooting guidance recommends setting 3D Resolution to 100% when diagnosing visual problems. If you have lowered it to gain performance, the image may look softer. Test at 100%, then adjust other settings gradually if you need to recover frame rate. Epic notes that lowering settings can help performance and recommends raising them gradually to find a balance between quality and stability. See Epic’s low-frame-rate troubleshooting steps.

Compare textures, meshes, and rendering modes

Epic’s April 2026 competitive-settings guide recommends Low textures and Low meshes for performance-oriented play, and explains that low meshes render objects with less detail. These are general competitive recommendations, not a tree-texture fix. If sharper scenery matters more than maximum frame rate, test higher texture or mesh quality, or compare another rendering mode, and observe both image clarity and performance. The same guide suggests Near view distance and 100% 3D Resolution as a minimum starting point, while noting that lowering 3D Resolution can improve performance when needed. Read Epic’s competitive settings guide.

Work through Epic’s software and hardware checks

  1. Update your graphics driver. Install the current driver for your graphics hardware, then relaunch Fortnite and compare the same scene.
  2. Confirm Fortnite is using the intended GPU. On a laptop or a multi-GPU PC, check the system’s graphics settings and select the high-performance GPU for Fortnite if it is using an integrated or unintended GPU.
  3. Verify the game files. In Epic Games Launcher, open your Library, select the three-dot menu for Fortnite, choose Manage, then select Verify. Wait for the check to finish before starting the game.
  4. Contact Epic Support if the issue persists. Include your rendering mode, graphics settings, GPU, driver version, and what you have already tried so support can assess the problem.

These are general graphics troubleshooting checks, not guaranteed remedies for tree textures. Epic cautions that performance results depend on the hardware in use and that its suggested steps may have little or no effect.

Do not remove high-resolution textures to fix blurry trees

Epic presents opting out of high-resolution texture files as a way to save storage space. It also warns that doing so can reduce in-game quality on low scalability settings or lower resolutions. That option is not a recommended fix for poor-looking trees; removing texture files could work against the goal of sharper visuals. Epic’s Performance Mode support page explains the option.
