What changed in Fortnite v31.20?
- Battle Royale: Day of Doom put Avengers against Doctor Doom’s forces in a mode for up to 32 players.
- Controller aim assist: Epic introduced what it called “human-like aim assist” for controller players on console, PC and mobile.
- Creative and UEFN: Creators received a Village project template, a Fall Guys device and stricter texture validation, alongside fixes documented in the ecosystem release notes.
- Shop: The announcement featured Iron Man Mk 45 digital cosmetics, including an Outfit with a LEGO Style.
Epic published the Battle Royale announcement on September 17, 2024. The separate ecosystem announcement appeared on September 12, with additional technical detail in the v31.20 ecosystem release notes. Epic’s Season 31 release index lists the season as running from August 16 through November 2, 2024.

How did Day of Doom work?
Epic described Day of Doom as inspired by Endgame from Chapter 1 Season 8. Matches had up to 32 players divided between Avengers and Doom’s Henchmen. It was listed in Discover until October 4, 2024, at 9 a.m. ET; that availability window has passed.
The two sides had different objectives and equipment. Epic said, “In Day of Doom, up to 32 players will join the ultimate battle between good and evil.”

The artifact requirements matter: the Monarch Pistol and Sovereign Shotgun were conditional unlocks, not weapons available from the start.
What did Epic change about controller aim assist?
Epic said v31.20 introduced “human-like aim assist” for controller players on console, PC and mobile. The company described the system as modeling human reaction time so controller tracking of moving targets would better match unassisted keyboard-and-mouse tracking.

Epic said it would monitor the impact and tune the system. Its announcement gives no measured accuracy change, quantified advantage or independent test result, so the published material establishes the announced design and intent—not a demonstrated balance outcome. Epic described its intent this way: “Human-like aim assist allows for more balanced tuning for controller players of all skill levels — we’ll be closely monitoring its impact so that we can tune it just right!”
What changed for Creative and UEFN creators?
These were creator-facing changes in the September 12 ecosystem release, distinct from the September 17 Battle Royale announcement.

- Village template: The Village island became available as a template in the UEFN Project Browser.
- Fall Guys islands: The Control: Side Scroller device was added.
- Texture validation: Texture validation warnings became errors that must be resolved before a session can launch. Epic said the change was intended to improve compatibility and stability across platforms.
- Fixes: The release notes include a fix for Chains of Hades being unavailable in the Creative inventory, along with fixes for device and input issues. In Verse, Epic listed a server-crash fix involving rollback of compound assignments to local variables and an API fix for player teleportation affecting pitch.
Which Iron Man items were announced?
Epic announced the Iron Man Mk 45 Outfit, Energy Collector Back Bling, Mark 45 Energy Blades Pickaxe, Arc Reaction Wrap and Mark 45 Bass for the in-game Shop. The Outfit also had a LEGO Style for LEGO experiences. These are digital Fortnite items and styles; Epic’s announcement does not identify any physical purchase as necessary to play or understand v31.20.
