The character news came from Disney’s D23 showcase on August 11, 2024.
Did a Fortnitemares trailer leak?
The available official confirmation does not establish that a Fortnitemares trailer leaked. Disney’s August 11, 2024 announcement named three villains joining Fortnite, but it did not identify a leaked trailer or document its footage. Accordingly, “first look” and “leak” describe the headline’s framing, not a verified Epic Games or Disney confirmation.
Which Disney villains did Disney announce for Fortnite?
Disney named Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook as the first Disney Animation characters coming to Fortnite, with their arrival expected “Later this Fall” in 2024. Disney made the announcement during its D23 Experiences showcase. Its coverage attributed this statement to Jennifer Lee, Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer: “We can’t wait to create new ways for the audience to enjoy their favorite Disney characters and worlds.” Disney’s D23 announcement confirms the characters and timing it gave; it does not establish cosmetic prices, Item Shop dates, or present availability.
| Character | Recognized Disney character | What Disney confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Maleficent | Villain from Sleeping Beauty | Named among the first Disney Animation characters coming to Fortnite later in fall 2024. |
| Cruella de Vil | Villain from One Hundred and One Dalmatians | Named among the first Disney Animation characters coming to Fortnite later in fall 2024. |
| Captain Hook | Villain from Peter Pan | Named among the first Disney Animation characters coming to Fortnite later in fall 2024. |
Does the announcement prove these skins are in the Item Shop now?
No. Disney’s 2024 announcement said the characters were expected later that fall, but the source does not establish when or whether specific cosmetics were subsequently sold, what they cost, or whether they are available now. The official announcement alone is not enough to verify current shop status.

How does the announcement fit into the Disney–Epic partnership?
Epic announced a broader Disney collaboration on February 7, 2024, describing plans for a connected games and entertainment universe interoperating with Fortnite. Epic also said Disney would invest $1.5 billion in Epic, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. The partnership announcement supplies context for the character news; it does not mean every planned character or experience was already available. Does later Fortnitemares news confirm the reported leak?
