A January 14, 2025 report attributed the claim that a Fortnite Godzilla “transformation Mythic” would arrive Friday, January 17, to leaker HYPEX—not to Epic Games. Epic confirmed two days later that a Battle Royale portal event would begin on January 17, letting the first player to enter a portal become Godzilla. Epic described it as a portal event, rather than confirming the leaked “transformation Mythic” label.
What was claimed, and what Epic confirmed
Insider Gaming reported on January 14 that HYPEX said a Godzilla transformation Mythic was coming “this Friday,” January 17. The report listed Beam, Stomp, and Roar abilities. That was leak information at the time, not an Epic announcement. Insider Gaming’s report also described a possible Kong “throw banana” ability; Epic’s later announcement did not confirm that feature.
On January 16, Epic published its own announcement, “Become Godzilla in Fortnite Battle Royale!” It said a portal would have a special chance to appear in a Battle Royale match starting January 17, 2025. The first player to enter would become Godzilla. Epic’s wording was a portal event, not a confirmation of the leak’s “transformation Mythic” terminology. Dexerto’s January 16 update coverage also distinguished the event timing from the earlier update release and downtime.
How the announced Godzilla event worked
Epic said only one player could become Godzilla when a portal spawned in a match. The monster’s three named abilities were:

- Heat Ray: damaged players and structures.
These are Epic’s official ability names and descriptions. The leak’s “Beam” and “Stomp” wording should not be substituted for Epic’s names.
Godzilla Fragments could drop when the monster took damage. A player who consumed one received 40 Health and 3 dash charges. Epic said the player who dealt the most damage to Godzilla would earn the Godzilla Medallion, which granted a recharging dash ability, and the exotic Burst Quad Launcher. The Medallion’s dash could recharge up to three charges at a time.
Godzilla quests and related cosmetics
Epic said HUNTERS Battle Pass owners could unlock the Godzilla Evolved Outfit by completing Battle Pass quests. The associated rewards included the Exo-Spine Back Bling, Crystal Fang Pickaxe, Mothra Glider, Lil’ Godzilla Attack Emote, and an Energized Godzilla Style for completing all the quests. Epic’s January 16 announcement gave February 21, 2025, at 2 AM ET as the quest deadline; that date has passed.

The cited announcements describe a 2025 event and its original schedule; they do not establish current availability. The accurate takeaway is historical: Epic said the portal event would begin January 17, 2025, after HYPEX’s reported claim on January 14. Epic’s official description confirms the portal, first-entrant transformation, abilities, and rewards, but not the leak’s label or its possible Kong banana ability.
