Forza Horizon 4: Settings and Performance Tips for Low-End PCs

Use Forza Horizon 4’s published PC requirements as a baseline, then compare graphics and resolution changes on your own low-end PC. No single preset or frame rate suits every system.

Compare your CPU, graphics card, RAM and available storage with Forza Horizon 4’s published PC requirements before changing settings. “Low-end” can mean anything from a laptop below the minimum specs to a desktop that meets the minimum but falls short of the recommended hardware. The requirements do not establish a universal best preset or predict a specific frame rate, so use them as a baseline and tune your own system methodically.

Check whether your PC meets the requirements

Steam’s listing, checked October 8, 2026, gives the following PC specifications. Minimum requirements describe the listed baseline; recommended requirements are not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or graphics quality.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10 version 15063.0 or higher Not stated separately; Steam lists the 64-bit OS requirement
Processor Intel i3-4170 at 3.7 GHz or Intel i5 750 at 2.67 GHz Intel i7-3820 at 3.6 GHz
Memory 8 GB RAM 12 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA 650 Ti or AMD R7 250X NVIDIA GTX 970, GTX 1060 3 GB, AMD R9 290X or RX 470
DirectX Version 12 Version 12
Network Broadband internet Broadband internet
Available storage 80 GB 100 GB

Use the GPU model—not just a label such as “integrated graphics” or “gaming laptop”—to judge how close your graphics hardware is to the listed baseline. Compare your processor and memory too: a machine can be limited by one component even if another meets or exceeds the minimum. Check that the drive where you plan to install the game has the required free space.

Choose a starting point, not a promised “best” preset

The published requirements do not include benchmarks for individual graphics options. They cannot show which setting to lower first on your particular laptop, or what frame rate it will deliver at a given resolution. Treat a low graphics preset, if available in your copy of the game, as a practical starting point rather than an official or proven universal recommendation.

  • Ready for Upgrades – Designed with tool-less access, easily swap out components, ensuring future-proof performance for years to come.

Start at the resolution you actually intend to play. If the game does not feel smooth, reduce visual quality and compare again. Lowering resolution can also help when the graphics card is the limiting component, but it makes the image less sharp. There is no source-backed setting list or frame-rate target that applies to every low-end PC.

How to tune settings on your own PC

  1. Record your baseline. Note your CPU, GPU, system RAM, display resolution and current graphics options. Start a repeatable drive in a similar location and conditions each time you compare.
  2. Begin with lower visual quality. If a low preset is available, use it as a starting point. Keep the resolution fixed for the first comparison so you can tell whether changing visual quality improves smoothness.
  3. Change one thing at a time. Adjust a single graphics option, then repeat the same drive. If the result is not smoother or the visual trade-off is not worthwhile, restore it before trying another option.
  4. Test resolution separately. Once you have a workable quality baseline, try a lower resolution if performance still feels uneven. Compare image clarity as well as smoothness at your normal viewing distance.
  5. Use a repeatable benchmark if available. The game’s benchmark or a consistent driving route can help you compare changes. Treat the result as specific to your hardware, resolution and test conditions, not as a general result for all PCs.

If lowering visual quality and resolution does not help, the graphics card may not be the only constraint. CPU capability, memory pressure or thermal behavior can also affect a particular system; the requirements page does not diagnose those causes. Avoid buying hardware based only on the minimum-spec list: identify the actual bottleneck on your PC first.

Availability and ongoing game content

Playground Games announced on June 25, 2024 that Forza Horizon 4 would be removed from the Microsoft Store and Steam on December 15, 2024 because of licensing agreements. The announcement said existing owners could continue downloading and playing, including offline, online and multiplayer features. Check current storefront and service information before relying on that older availability notice: Playground Games’ delisting announcement.

The same announcement said Series 77 was the final Festival Playlist, ending August 22, 2024. It also said the four in-game seasons would continue and selected daily and weekly challenges would remain available through the Forza Events screen. Store terms and service status can change over time.
