There is no single best car for every class and event in Forza Horizon 5. The strongest choice depends on your event’s PI cap, whether you’re racing on road, dirt, or cross-country, the course layout, and the car’s tune. StopShop’s guide, updated April 9, 2026, names these quick picks based on its Series 58 community meta data and online play testing: the Koenigsegg Jesko for S2 road, Hoonigan Hoonicorn for S2 dirt, Hoonigan Ford RS200 Evolution for S1 road and A dirt, Porsche #3 917 LH for S1 dirt, Hot Wheels Bone Shaker for A road, Honda Civic RS for B road, and Ford Escort Cosworth for B dirt. Treat them as recommendations for particular builds and conditions—not universal winners.

How Forza Horizon 5 classes work

Cars are grouped by Performance Index (PI), and a vehicle’s class can change when you upgrade it. StopShop’s April 2026 guide gives these class bands:

Class PI range
D 0–500
C 501–600
B 601–700
A 701–800
S1 801–900
S2 901–998
X 999+

These ranges are from StopShop’s guide; check the in-game PI for the exact car and build you plan to use. A stock car, a tuned version, and a special edition can have different PI and handling. StopShop focuses on B through S2 because it says D, C, and X are less prominent in competitive online events and seasonal championships.

Best cars by class and event type

The picks below are starting points, not a promise that one car will beat every rival. A tune that suits a technical circuit may not be the best choice for a sprint with long straights.

B dirt Ford Escort Cosworth StopShop’s B-class dirt pick; other tuned B-class dirt options include the International Scout 800A and Ford Bronco in ForzaFire’s list.

Alternatives when the track or build calls for something else

S2 road: top speed or all-round handling

GamesRadar identifies the 2020 Koenigsegg Jesko as an S2 971 car and recommends it for races and speed traps. Its author reports reaching about 283 mph on the highway; that is a personal driving observation, not a standardized test result or a guarantee for every tune. For road races and open-world activities where handling and control matter more than outright top speed, GamesRadar recommends the 2011 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Forza Edition, citing its handling, acceleration, launch, and braking. The regular Sesto Elemento is listed there as S2 936, so don’t treat the Forza Edition and standard model as interchangeable.

S1 road: versatile or technical-course choices

Alongside the RS200 Evolution, StopShop suggests the Porsche 918 Spyder as an all-round option and the Lotus Elise GT1 or BAC Mono for technical tracks. GamesRadar’s 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S example is aimed at straighter roads and drag-style runs; its weight can make it cumbersome on technical street routes.

A road: tune and edition matter

StopShop lists the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II, Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, and Honda NSX-R as alternatives to its Hot Wheels Bone Shaker pick. GamesRadar recommends the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR for mixed-terrain flexibility. The standard car is listed as B 649 in that guide, while its Welcome Pack version is A 800—an example of why you should confirm the edition and final PI rather than assume the model name determines its class.

B road: compare tuned builds

StopShop also names the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R and 1995 Toyota MR2 as B-road options. ForzaFire’s road ranking places a 1990 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R first and a 1974 Honda Civic RS second among its B-class builds. Those rankings describe configurations with selected parts and an in-game Credits cost, not stock-car performance.

D class and off-road alternatives

For D class, GamesRadar recommends the 1973 Ford Capri RS3100, listed there at D 497 and 55,000 CR, as a balanced example. That recommendation does not establish a competitive D-class meta. For dirt, GamesRadar also recommends the Hoonigan Ford Escort RS Cosworth WRC and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR; it names the M12S Warthog CST as an off-road option. The range of B-class dirt builds in ForzaFire’s list—including the Scout 800A and Bronco—also shows why the surface and tune can change which car suits an event.

Choose the right car for your event

Before committing to a car, compare the parts of the build that affect the race you’re about to run:

  • Play on Xbox Series X and Xbox One consoles. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, download and play it directly on your Xbox console or Windows 10 PC.
  • Class cap and final PI: Make sure the upgraded car fits the event’s class limit. A model’s class can differ by edition and build.
  • Surface: Road and street racing reward different setups from dirt and cross-country events.
  • Course shape: Long straights favor speed; tight, technical routes place more value on cornering, braking, and acceleration out of turns.
  • Driving characteristics: Consider grip, launch, acceleration, braking, and speed together. A high top-speed figure alone does not make a car the best race choice.
  • Tune and drivetrain: The same model can behave differently after upgrades and tuning. Check the setup as well as the car name.
  • Unlock route and Credits: Check the current in-game listing for price and availability. The official car roster can help verify a model and its acquisition category, but it does not rank performance.

StopShop recommends testing tunes in Rivals and notes that the community meta changes. GamesRadar cautions that assists and difficulty affect how a car feels, so a recommendation may not suit every player’s settings or driving style.

Where to verify cars and recommendations

For model names and acquisition categories such as Autoshow, Wheelspin, seasonal rewards, Backstage, or DLC, consult the official Forza car roster and confirm current availability in-game. It is a roster, not a performance ranking. StopShop’s recommendations are dated April 9, 2026 and reflect what that guide describes as Series 58 community meta data and online play testing; GamesRadar and ForzaFire offer different picks and tuned-build examples. No named, independently verifiable game-wide win-rate or lap-time dataset is established by these recommendations.
