One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo change your driver’s clothes in Forza Horizon 6, go to an owned house, open the house menu, choose Character, then select Customize Character. You can equip individual pieces such as tops, pants, shoes, hats, gloves and glasses, or apply a complete outfit preset. The quickest route is Main Menu > My Horizon > an owned house to fast-travel there.
The procedure below follows a guide updated June 3, 2026 and checked October 13, 2026. Menu wording can change in a later game update, but the important destination remains the Character customization screen at a house.

Change clothes at an owned house
The house is the game’s documented wardrobe location. You do not select clothing from a race screen or a normal driving view; first reach a house, either by fast travel or by the alternate route described below.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the main menu. Pause your current activity and bring up the main navigation screen.
- Open My Horizon. This section provides access to your owned houses and their related activities.
- Select an owned house. Choose your main house or another house you own, then accept the fast-travel option. You must be at the house before the character editor is available.
- Move across the house menu to Character. At the property, use the tabs along the top of the screen and move to Character.
- Choose Customize Character. This opens the clothing and appearance editor.
- Select a category and item. Pick a clothing slot or a complete outfit, then choose the item you want to equip. Categories include tops, pants, shoes, hats and accessories; the editor also exposes appearance options such as skin tone, body type, glasses, gloves and hair-related cosmetics.
- Back out of the editor. Leave the customization screen after selecting the new item, then look at your character in the house menu or gameplay view to confirm the item remains equipped.
If a piece does not appear in the list, it is not necessarily a menu problem. Some cosmetics are available immediately at no cost, while others require Credits or an unlock reward.

Use the alternate route when you are away from home
If you are driving and do not want to navigate through My Horizon, the same guide documents a second fast-travel route:
- Open the main menu.
- Switch to Cars.
- Select Buy New & Used Cars.
- Accept the prompt to fast-travel to Mei’s house.
- At the house, open Character, then Customize Character.
This route is useful when you are already in the Cars section or when you want to reach a house without first opening the My Horizon property list. It still ends at the same Character editor; it is not a separate clothing system.
What you can change in the Character editor
The editor separates wearable items and broader appearance settings. Use individual slots when you want to build a look piece by piece, or use an outfit preset when you want a complete themed appearance.
| Editor area | What it changes | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Your upper-body clothing | Open the top category and equip an owned item. |
| Pants | Lower-body clothing | Choose a pair from the pants list. |
| Shoes | Footwear | Select an owned shoe option. |
| Hat | Headwear | Equip or remove a hat from the hat category. |
| Accessories | Additional cosmetic pieces | Use the accessories category for available items. |
| Glasses | Eyewear | Choose an owned glasses option. |
| Gloves | Handwear | Select gloves separately from the other clothing slots. |
| Complete outfit | A full outfit preset | Apply the preset when you want the game’s complete combination rather than assembling separate pieces. |
| Skin tone and body type | Core character appearance | Change these in the appearance controls rather than in a clothing slot. |
| Hair-related cosmetics | Hair and related visual options | Use the hair-related section when available in the editor. |
Availability depends on your collection. The customization screen can show options that are locked, cost Credits or require a reward, so an empty-looking category does not mean the editor is malfunctioning.

Mix separate pieces or equip a complete outfit
Build a custom combination
Choose tops, pants, shoes, hats and accessories one at a time when you want control over each part of the character’s appearance. This is the right approach for combining a favorite jacket with different shoes, changing only a hat, or keeping your current clothes while replacing one accessory.
Apply an outfit preset
Use the complete-outfit area when you want a ready-made look. A preset is faster than selecting every slot individually and is useful when you want to switch to a themed combination in one selection. After applying it, back out and verify that the character is wearing the intended look.
Change appearance without changing clothes
Skin tone, body type, glasses, gloves and hair-related cosmetics are available alongside clothing. You can therefore adjust the character’s appearance without treating every change as a new outfit. Select only the relevant appearance category, make the change, and exit the editor.

How to unlock or obtain more clothing
Changing clothes only uses items already in your collection. When the piece you want is missing or locked, the game’s progression systems provide the documented ways to expand the wardrobe.

Wheelspins and Super Wheelspins
Wheelspins and Super Wheelspins can award clothing as well as other rewards. They become available again after you qualify for the Horizon Festival. Playground Games said in its May 12, 2026 progression article that Wheelspins, especially Super Wheelspins, were rebalanced to be rarer to earn but more rewarding when awarded. That means spins should be treated as occasional progression rewards rather than a guaranteed clothing shop.
Clothing Vouchers
Clothing Vouchers are another listed source of cosmetic items. If you receive one, check the relevant clothing or reward interface and use it for an eligible item according to the voucher’s conditions.
Festival Playlist objectives and seasonal rewards
Complete Festival Playlist objectives and claim seasonal rewards when they become available. These activities can provide clothing directly or unlock rewards that add new cosmetics to your collection. Seasonal availability means an item may not be obtainable through the same objective at a later time.

Player-level increases
Raising your player level can provide additional clothing rewards. Continue normal progression and check your reward notifications when your level increases so you do not overlook a newly added cosmetic.

Discover Japan and race challenges
Discover Japan activities and race challenges are also identified as sources of clothing. If you are looking for more cosmetics while progressing through the map, review the rewards attached to these activities before deciding which challenge to play next.
Some pieces are free, while others require Credits or a specific unlock reward. The editor is the authoritative place to see whether an item is already owned, purchasable or locked.
Which fast-travel route should you use?
| Situation | Recommended route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You know which owned house you want to use | My Horizon, then select that house | It takes you directly to a chosen property. |
| You are already working in the Cars menu | Cars > Buy New & Used Cars, then accept the Mei’s-house prompt | It avoids returning to the property list. |
| You are currently driving and have not opened a house menu | Use either fast-travel route before opening Character | The documented editor location is at a house, not in the driving HUD. |
| You already own the desired clothing | Choose the fastest house route, then open Customize Character | No additional unlock activity is needed. |
| The desired clothing is locked | Check the item’s requirement, then pursue its listed reward source | The editor shows whether Credits or an unlock reward is required. |
Troubleshoot missing or unchanged clothing
“I cannot find a wardrobe option.”
Look for Character in the top menu at an owned house. The documented label is Customize Character, not “Wardrobe.” If you are still on the map, in a race, or in the normal driving view, fast-travel to a house first.
“My Horizon does not show the house I want.”
Only an owned house can be selected through the described property route. Choose another owned house, or use the Cars-menu route to accept the prompt for Mei’s house. If a property has not been acquired, it will not function as your selected owned-house destination.

“I used the Cars route but still cannot change clothes.”
The Cars route only gets you to the property. Once you arrive, move across the house’s top menu to Character and open Customize Character. Buying or browsing cars does not itself open the character editor.
“The item is visible but I cannot equip it.”
Check whether the item is marked as requiring Credits or an unlock reward. Clothing can be listed before it is available for use, so pursue the requirement shown for that item instead of repeatedly reopening the editor.
“I changed one item and the rest of my outfit looks different.”
Make sure you selected an individual clothing category rather than a complete outfit preset. Presets are intended to apply a full combination; individual categories are the safer choice when you want to replace only one piece.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors“The change is not visible after I leave the editor.”
Back out of the editor in the normal way and inspect the character again. Reopen Character > Customize Character if necessary and confirm that the selected item is still marked as equipped. If the menu labels or layout differ from these steps, check for a game update, because the exact wording may change in a later release.
Why clothing rewards may feel less frequent
Playground Games’ May 12, 2026 progression update explains that Wheelspins and especially Super Wheelspins were made rarer to earn while becoming more rewarding when they appear. This is relevant when you are trying to expand your wardrobe: a lower frequency of spins does not mean the character system is missing clothing, only that spins are not intended to provide a constant stream of cosmetics. Combine spin rewards with Festival Playlist activities, vouchers, level increases, Discover Japan activities and race challenges.
Where your character appears outside the editor
Character customization is also connected to the game’s customizable garages. In an April 20, 2026 customization article, Playground Games described garages where players can display up to four cars, choose a spot for their character to pose and inspect the scene in Forzavista. After changing clothes, these garage presentation options give you a place to view the updated character alongside your cars.
Platform and access context
Forza Horizon 6 is available on Xbox and PC, with access options through Game Pass shown on the official Xbox product page. The menu route is the same in principle: reach an owned house, open Character, and select Customize Character. Button prompts can differ between controller and keyboard layouts, but the named menu entries are the useful landmarks.
