The footage introduced the game’s Japan setting and highlighted two cover cars: the 2025 GR GT Prototype and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.
What did the Forza Horizon 6 gameplay reveal show?
The reveal presented a mix of Japan’s landscapes and driving scenes, with Tokyo’s urban streets contrasted against rural and mountainous routes. Playground Games singled out the 2025 GR GT Prototype, making its video game debut, and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser as cover cars in its January 22, 2026 announcement.
The footage was an introduction to the setting and cars, not a complete map tour. The studio later named more locations and features in its February 9 feature overview and April 8 map reveal.
How does the Forza Horizon 6 campaign begin?
The player starts as a tourist in Japan who wants to join the Horizon Festival. The campaign then moves through qualifying events and wristband ranks, with Legend Island as an eventual destination. Playground Games describes this as a progression from arriving in Japan to earning a place in the festival.

Design Director Torben Ellert told Xbox Wire that the game aims for the feel of Japan rather than a road-by-road reproduction: “It’s easy to think of an authentic space as a recreation of a place, but it’s less about that accuracy, and more about the feel of it.” The full January 22, 2026 Xbox Wire interview also quotes Ellert describing Horizon games as being about “freedom,” “fun,” “beauty,” and “community.”

At the January 22 reveal, Playground Games announced an initial release for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access beginning May 15. The studio said a PlayStation 5 version would follow later in 2026. These are the original announced plans; the Xbox and PC date has passed as of October 8, 2026. The announcement and its accompanying FAQ do not establish current store availability or the present status of the PS5 version.
