Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan, and its Xbox Series X|S and PC release date was May 19, 2026. Playground Games currently lists the game as playable on those platforms. The publisher says a PS5 version is coming later in 2026 but has not announced a specific date on its current game page.
When did Forza Horizon 6 release?
Forza Horizon 6 launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, according to the official FAQ. Premium Upgrade early access began May 15, four days earlier. As of October 8, 2026, the current game page describes the game as playable now on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The FAQ said Game Pass Ultimate members on Xbox Series X|S and PC Game Pass members could play on May 19 as part of their membership. Subscription benefits and terms can change, so check the current store or membership listing before subscribing or buying an add-on.
Is Forza Horizon 6 set in Japan?
Yes. Japan is the setting, spanning rural landscapes and urban locations. Playground Games describes Tokyo City as the largest urban area in a Forza Horizon game to date; that is the publisher’s characterization, not an independently measured map comparison.

You begin as a tourist hoping to join the Horizon Festival. Qualify, complete events, and earn Wristbands to progress toward becoming a Horizon Legend. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op, and progression includes a Collection Journal and access to Legend Island.

The publisher’s features page describes cross-play and cross-save across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PS5, and Steam. Because PS5 availability was still described as forthcoming on the current page, check the live platform listing for its release status and the applicable cross-play or save conditions.

What is new about the Japan setting and gameplay?
The release overview describes Horizon Qualifiers and Wristband progression, as well as Horizon Rush obstacle courses at locations including Tokyo City Docks. Other activities and social features include:
- Time Attack Circuits for timed driving challenges.
- Car Meets where players can show their cars and browse tunes and liveries.
- Drag Meets in the shared world.
- Horizon CoLab, which lets up to 12 players build in the open world together.
- Customizable garages and The Estate, with solo building supported.
The publisher also highlights JDM classics, Touge Battles, and rare Aftermarket Cars that can be test-driven or bought in-game. Its current page says the game includes over 550 real-world cars—a Playground Games claim published in 2026, not an independent roster count. The announced cover cars were the 2025 GR GT Prototype and 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.
