Forza Horizon 6 launches on PlayStation 5 on 26 January 2027. Premium Edition owners get early access from 21 January 2027. The official PS5 PlayStation Store listing currently does not state a download size, installed size, or required free-space buffer, so there is no reliable PS5 GB figure to quote yet.
You can preorder digitally and use PS5 auto-download, provided Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In are enabled. A PlayStation account and persistent internet connection are required. PlayStation Plus is listed as necessary for online console multiplayer, not as an installation requirement. A physical PS5 disc is also planned for supporting retailers.

What is confirmed for the PS5 release?
Playground Games announced the PS5 version on 8 October 2026. Standard and Deluxe Editions launch on 26 January 2027, while Premium Edition early access begins five days earlier, on 21 January 2027. The US PlayStation Store lists the Premium release timestamp as 21 January 2027 at 04:00 PM UTC.
The PS5 port is being developed by Panic Button in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios. The announcement also confirms cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. That means the PS5 release is part of the same cross-platform ecosystem, although your account-linking and save-transfer prompts should be followed when you first start the game.

How many gigabytes is Forza Horizon 6 on PS5?
No official PS5 download or install size has been published. The current PlayStation Store page does not give a byte-size requirement, and the October 2026 announcement does not provide one either. Until the Store page exposes a download figure or the PS5 preload becomes available, any specific PS5 number is speculation.
Why the PC figure cannot answer the PS5 question
Steam Support lists 167 GB of available space for the PC version in 2026. That is a platform-specific PC requirement from Valve and must not be treated as the PS5 download size. Console packaging, compression, texture delivery, patches and installation processes can differ between platforms.
How much free space should you leave?
Leave more free space than the eventual game download if possible. A PS5 may need working room while it downloads, verifies and unpacks data, and later updates can require additional temporary space. This is practical preparation, not a published Forza Horizon 6 requirement. Check the game’s Store download information again when the preload option appears and use that figure as your baseline.
Do not confuse content counts with storage
The Store description advertises more than 550 real-world cars. That is a content count, not a 550 GB estimate or any other storage measurement. It tells you about the game’s vehicle roster only.
Which PS5 edition should you buy?
The US PlayStation Store lists three digital editions. Prices below are the US listing’s prices and can differ by country, taxes and currency conversion.

| Edition | US Store price | Access | Included content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $69.99 | Launch-day release | Full game |
| Deluxe | $99.99 | Launch-day release | Full game, Welcome Pack and Car Pass |
| Premium | $119.99 | Five-day early access | Full game, VIP Membership, Expansion 1, Expansion 2, Time Attack Car Pack, Italian Passion Car Pack and Car Pass |
Choose Standard if you want the base game and do not need the bundled add-ons. Deluxe is the middle option for the Welcome Pack and Car Pass without the expansions or VIP benefits listed for Premium. Premium is the only edition with the announced early-access window and includes the largest set of add-ons.
The same announcement says a PS5 disc edition will be sold at supporting retailers. The available physical package, regional stock and retailer price are not specified in the announcement, so check the local listing before assuming that a particular edition or bonus is included on disc.

How to preorder and prepare a digital PS5 install
The PlayStation Store supports pre-ordering and auto-download. It does not currently publish the date on which the preload files will become available, so treat the following as a setup procedure rather than a guaranteed preload schedule.
- Choose your edition. Open the PS5 PlayStation Store page for Forza Horizon 6 and select Standard, Deluxe or Premium. Confirm the edition name and release window before paying.
- Use the account that will play the game. A PlayStation account is required. Purchasing on a different account can leave the title attached to the wrong user’s library.
- Enable automatic login. On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Login Settings and enable the option to log in automatically. The Store specifically says auto-download requires Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In.
- Enable automatic downloads. Open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates and keep Auto-Download enabled. If you want downloads while the console is resting, also open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Keep the console online. The Store requires a persistent internet connection. Use a stable connection and avoid powering the console fully off during the expected download window.
- Check the game page when preload opens. Visit Game Library > Your Collection, select Forza Horizon 6 and look for Download or a scheduled auto-download indicator. The label can vary with the current PS5 system software and the game’s release state.
- Verify the available space shown by the console. Once Sony publishes the PS5 package size, compare it with Settings > Storage > Console Storage. Keep additional headroom for unpacking and updates rather than treating the package number as a recommended long-term free-space target.
What happens on launch day?
After the download completes, start the game from the home screen or Game Library. The console may apply a day-one update before allowing all features to run; the current listing does not state the size or timing of such an update. Keep the PS5 connected until the system reports that installation and any pending update are complete.
If you purchased Premium, the early-access window begins on 21 January 2027. Standard and Deluxe owners should expect access from the general launch on 26 January 2027. Store timestamps can be displayed in UTC or converted to your console’s local time, so rely on the countdown shown for your account rather than manually converting another region’s clock.

Installing from a physical PS5 disc
A disc release is planned for supporting retailers. Insert the disc into a PS5 with a disc drive and follow the on-screen installation prompts. The announcement does not state the disc’s install capacity, whether every game file is on the disc, or the size of any required update, so do not use the physical format as a way to estimate storage.

PlayStation account
The PlayStation Store listing requires a PlayStation account for the digital purchase and installation process. Sign in before attempting to download a preorder so the title is attached to the account that will use it.
Persistent internet
The listing states that a persistent internet connection is required. This applies to the game’s stated installation and service requirements; the listing does not publish a minimum broadband speed. If a wireless connection is unreliable, use a wired connection or move the console closer to the router before starting a large download.
PlayStation Plus
Online console multiplayer requires a separately sold PlayStation Plus subscription. The Store listing does not say that Plus is required merely to install the game, and it does not identify a Plus requirement for every offline activity. In practical terms, you can prepare the installation without purchasing Plus, but you will need an eligible subscription for the online console multiplayer feature described by the listing.

Cross-play and cross-save on PS5
Playground Games says the PS5 version supports cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. Cross-play concerns playing with people on the other supported platforms; cross-save concerns carrying compatible progress between them. Use the game’s account-linking instructions carefully, because selecting the wrong account can make a save appear to be missing even when the installation itself is correct.
Storage and download problems: a practical troubleshooting guide
The Store shows no download button
Check that the preorder was completed on the signed-in account, that the selected edition is the PS5 version, and that the release or preload window has opened. Restart the PS5 and check Game Library > Your Collection again. Auto-download cannot begin if Automatic Login or Auto Sign-In is disabled.
Auto-download never starts
Confirm the console is connected to the internet in Rest Mode, Auto-Download is enabled, and the system is not fully powered off. If the game remains queued, open its Store page and start the download manually when the button becomes available.
The console reports insufficient space
Open Settings > Storage > Console Storage to identify large games or captures you can move or delete. Do not rely on the 167 GB PC figure as a PS5 target, and do not assume that deleting exactly the displayed package size will be enough for installation. Wait for the official PS5 figure and leave working room for updates.
Recommended Free Tools
The download is slow or repeatedly fails
Pause other downloads, test the network connection from Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection, and retry during a less congested period. A wired connection can reduce wireless interference. If the Store reports a service outage, wait for service to recover rather than repeatedly cancelling the download.
The game is installed but online play is unavailable
Verify that the PS5 is online, the PlayStation account is signed in and the required PlayStation Plus subscription is active. Also check for a pending game update; an out-of-date client can block online features even when the base installation is complete.
Should you buy an expansion SSD now?
The unresolved PS5 size means an SSD purchase cannot be justified by an official Forza Horizon 6 capacity figure today. If your console is already close to full, make room by moving older games to compatible external storage or deleting captures before launch. Consider an internal expansion only after Sony’s Store page reveals the actual package size and you can compare it with the space you routinely need for other games.
