PS5 arrives in January 2027
The later PS5 announcement replaces the older, less specific language that suggested a PS5 version would arrive sometime in 2026. The current date is January 26, 2027 for the Standard and Deluxe editions. Premium Edition early access begins January 21, 2027. If you are deciding whether to wait for PS5, use those specific dates rather than the superseded general window.
What the editions include
The Xbox product page lists the Deluxe Edition as the base game with Car Pass and Welcome Pack. Its Premium Edition adds two Premium Expansions, the Italian Passion Car Pack, Time Attack Car Pack, Car Pass, VIP Membership and Welcome Pack. Those are the Xbox listing’s contents; the cited PS5 announcement establishes the PS5 release and editions but does not establish that every paid add-on transfers between PlayStation and Xbox storefronts.
Cross-save and cross-buy are different concepts. The publisher confirms that your progress can move between the named platforms, but the reviewed announcements do not say that purchasing the game, an expansion or another paid entitlement on one console storefront automatically grants it on the other. Check the final PS5 store listing and account terms before assuming that a second purchase is unnecessary.

PS5 has a disc option
Playground Games says the PS5 version will be available on disc at supporting retailers. That confirms a physical format, not stock at a particular shop, region, or date on which a retailer will accept orders. Digital and disc buyers should still verify the edition, language, age rating and local availability in their market.
Performance and graphics: what is actually confirmed
PS5 modes
The clearest PS5 performance information is tied to the announcement trailer. The footage was captured on a base PS5 in 4K 30FPS Quality mode. The same announcement says a 60FPS Performance mode will be available. This establishes two selectable targets for the PS5 version, but it does not state the internal rendering resolution, reconstruction method, ray-tracing settings, dynamic-resolution range, visual differences, load times or frame-pacing behavior of either mode.
Xbox Series X|S capability statement
Microsoft’s Xbox product page advertises Xbox Series X|S support for 4K Ultra HD and 60 FPS. That is a platform capability statement rather than a measured result in a particular scene. It does not provide a matched breakdown for Series X versus Series S, identify which mode uses which resolution target, or explain whether 4K and 60 FPS are simultaneous options in every part of the game.
Why there is no honest “better” platform verdict yet
Comparing “4K 30FPS Quality” on a base PS5 with “4K Ultra HD and 60 FPS” on an Xbox product page would mix different kinds of claims. One is a captured mode description; the other is a broad product-page specification. No official source cited here supplies side-by-side resolution, graphics-setting, frame-pacing or frame-rate testing for PS5, Series X and Series S. Without those measurements, calling one console sharper, smoother or more stable would be speculation.

- Choose PS5 if you want the option between a 30FPS Quality presentation and a 60FPS Performance presentation on the base console, while accepting that their exact image-quality trade-off is not documented here.
- Choose Xbox only if its ecosystem advantages matter to you as well as the advertised 4K Ultra HD and 60 FPS support. The specification does not prove that Series X and Series S render identically.
- Use a television or monitor with a suitable 120Hz input if you want to benefit from a 60FPS mode; the game still cannot exceed the mode it provides.
- Wait for independent, matched testing if resolution, frame pacing, loading or visual settings are the deciding factors.
Cross-play, cross-save and shared community content
Playing with friends on different platforms
The October 2026 PS5 announcement confirms cross-platform play with Xbox and Steam. An Xbox player can therefore join friends on PS5 or Steam, and a PS5 player can join the named Xbox and Steam versions, subject to the game’s online requirements and account systems. The announcement does not describe a separate restriction by console model.
Moving your progress
Cross-save is also confirmed between PS5, Xbox and Steam. This is the feature that lets progress follow the supported account across those versions. It should not be read as a promise that every local setting, screenshot, peripheral profile or platform-specific service entitlement will synchronize. The official statements establish cross-save at the game level, not a detailed inventory of every data type.

EventLab and other creations
The publisher describes a cross-platform pool of user-generated content. Examples include EventLab races, Prefabs, Garages, Estates, Liveries and Tuning Setups. Xbox’s product page also describes multiplayer CoLab as an upgraded EventLab toolset. These descriptions indicate that community-made activities and designs are intended to circulate across the supported versions; they do not claim that every individual creation is identical in presentation or that every future feature will launch simultaneously on every platform.

There is no confirmed cross-buy policy in the cited announcements. Owning the Xbox edition does not, on the evidence available here, establish a free PS5 license, and owning a PS5 copy does not establish an Xbox or Steam entitlement. The same caution applies to Car Pass content, expansions, VIP Membership and other paid additions. Verify the store-specific terms before changing platforms.

Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan. Playground Games describes a campaign that begins with you as a tourist who wants to attend the Horizon Festival, then moves through Horizon Qualifiers and Wristbands. Those are descriptions of the game and its progression, not features identified as Xbox-only or PS5-only.
Cars and Japanese car culture
Official feature material highlights more than 550 real-world cars, Tokyo, Japanese car culture, Aftermarket Cars and Touge Battles. “Over 550” is the publisher’s product-page figure, not an independently audited count or a platform-specific total. The cited sources do not establish different car rosters between PS5, Series X, Series S, PC or Steam.
Multiplayer tools
Xbox describes CoLab as an upgraded EventLab toolset. Combined with the confirmed cross-platform community pool, that points to a multiplayer experience built around both structured races and player-created events. The available material does not state that CoLab, EventLab or any named creation type is exclusive to Xbox, so PS5 buyers should not assume they are receiving a reduced feature set.

The Xbox launch information lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud and Steam. It also identifies Forza Horizon 6 as an Xbox Play Anywhere title and says it is day-one with Game Pass Ultimate. The launch article says Xbox Series X|S consoles are covered by Game Pass Ultimate, while PC access is available through PC Game Pass.
Those memberships and their catalogues can change by country and over time. Treat the statements as the launch and product-page terms, then check the current local Xbox listing for price, availability, required tier and any changes before subscribing. A Game Pass entitlement is also separate from a PlayStation Store purchase, so it does not by itself establish a PS5 license.

This decision table deliberately separates timing, services and ownership from performance. A platform can be the right fit because your friends, subscription or existing library are there even when the official material does not establish a graphics advantage.

A practical checklist before you buy
- Pick your target date. If you need to play before January 2027, the PS5 version is not the available option; Xbox Series X|S and PC are the launched versions.
- Match the edition to the content you want. On Xbox, compare Standard, Deluxe and Premium contents rather than assuming that a later PS5 purchase includes the same add-ons.
- Confirm your friends’ platforms. Cross-play is confirmed for PS5, Xbox and Steam, so a shared platform is not required, but everyone should verify the version and online-account requirements shown in their local store.
- Plan for save migration carefully. Cross-save is confirmed, while cross-buy is not. Keep proof of purchase and check the platform’s entitlement wording before selling or uninstalling an existing copy.
- Check your display. A 60FPS mode is useful only if your television or monitor accepts the relevant signal; image-quality preferences may favor Quality mode, while responsiveness may favor Performance mode.
- Verify local availability. Confirm the PS5 disc stock, digital edition, Game Pass catalogue and regional pricing immediately before ordering because those commercial details can change.
Bottom line
Xbox Series X|S is the straightforward choice for earlier access and Xbox services. PS5 is a full version with confirmed cross-play, cross-save, shared community content, a disc edition and two announced graphics modes. The official material does not prove that either platform is technically superior, and it does not promise cross-buy. Choose based on release timing, friends, subscriptions, existing purchases and physical-media preference; wait for matched benchmarks if raw performance is your deciding factor.
