Forza Motorsport (2023) is worth playing if you want finely judged circuit racing and structured online competition; it is less compelling if a varied, distinctive solo career is your priority. That contrast defined one of the strongest launch-period reviews, and the game has since received substantial additions. The evidence here supports a positive view of its driving and multiplayer, but not a current performance verdict across every platform or PC configuration.
What is Forza Motorsport?
Forza Motorsport (2023) is Turn 10 Studios’ circuit-racing game, distinct from the open-world Forza Horizon series and earlier Motorsport entries. It launched on October 10, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to Forza’s anniversary retrospective. The Xbox Wire pre-launch announcement introduced the game ahead of release.

The official Xbox store listing describes a game built around track racing, car setup and progression. It lists more than 500 cars, 30 tracks and more than 800 performance upgrades. Its feature set includes the Builders Cup career, tire and fuel strategy, dynamic time of day and weather, damage and dirt systems, assists, driver and safety ratings, and real-time on-track ray tracing. Those are official product claims, not an independent measure of how well every feature works.
What do the reviews say?
The clearest cited independent review is Phil Iwaniuk’s PC review for PC Gamer, published October 4, 2023. He gave the game 80/100, praised the handling and online racing, and described the solo career as familiar. He tested on a PC with an Intel Core i7-9700K, RTX 2080 Ti and 16GB of RAM. That score and assessment reflect one launch-period PC review, not a current consensus or a review of Xbox performance.

- Immerse yourself in over 500 real cars across 20 world-famous environments, including fan favorite locations and multiple track layouts, each featuring fully dynamic time-of-day with weather and unique driving conditions.
- Out-build the competition using more than 800 performance upgrades in the all-new, fun, and rewarding single-player experience, the Builders Cup Career Mode.
- Race alongside your friends in adjudicated multiplayer events with tire and fuel strategy, a race weekend– inspired structure, and new driver and safety ratings.
- Compete with cutting-edge AI opponents, advanced physics, powerful assists, new damage and dirt accumulation systems, and photorealistic visuals with real-time ray tracing on-track.
Iwaniuk called the handling “absolutely wonderful” and argued that online racing is where the handling, upgrades and race format come together. He also characterized the career as over-familiar. This makes the review useful for understanding the game’s central trade-off: the driving can be absorbing, while progression through its solo structure may feel conventional.
PC performance: what the launch review can and cannot tell you
PC Gamer reported several crashes to desktop on its review build. The article said a multiplayer crash bug was known and subsequently patched, while offline crashes were still being worked on at the time it was written. Those reports belong to the October 2023 launch period; they do not establish the game’s current stability, nor do they predict performance on a different PC, driver version or console.

What has changed since launch?
The game has changed materially since its 2023 release. Forza’s retrospective reports 20 post-launch updates and lists additions including Car Proximity Radar, Spectate, Open Track Day, Drift Meetups, Endurance and Multi-Class Races, PC Ray Tracing Global Illumination, and the ability to install car upgrades at any time. It reports more than 600 cars when DLC and reward cars are included, alongside 30 tracks. That broader count need not match the store’s more-than-500 figure, which is presented separately in the listing.

One specific update illustrates the change. In its September 9, 2024 Update 12 notes, Turn 10 added Spectate Mode for Private Multiplayer and the Challenge Hub, which offers choices for earning reward cars. The update also brought customizable weather to Free Play and Private Multiplayer, refinements to Forza Race Regulations, and fixes including PC memory/system improvements and clearer screen narration for pit-stop options.
Turn 10 said Update 12 increased the incident information captured by its Forza Race Regulations system by 300%. The developer described this as data capture used to train the penalty system’s machine-learning model; it is not evidence of a 300% increase in penalty accuracy.

Is it better for single-player or multiplayer?
Single-player
The Builders Cup provides a structured career, but the cited review’s main reservation was that its progression felt familiar. The official store lists the career and race-strategy systems, but the available independent review evidence does not support calling the solo mode either broadly innovative or uniformly poor. Choose it if you mainly want repeatable track events and car progression; lower expectations if you need a career with an unusually distinctive format.
Multiplayer
Online racing was a highlight for PC Gamer, and post-launch additions expand the ways to take part. Open Track Day, Drift Meetups, Endurance and Multi-Class events offer different formats, while Spectate supports viewing Private Multiplayer events. Turn 10 said Spectate was intended to make it easier for league administrators to view and broadcast official events.

- GAMING CONSOLE
For players who care about clean racing, Update 12’s changes to incident data capture and Forza Race Regulations are relevant, but the developer’s stated data increase should not be mistaken for a demonstrated improvement in penalty accuracy. The cited sources do not provide an independent evaluation of current matchmaking, enforcement quality or player populations.
How does it compare with Gran Turismo?
There is not enough equivalent review evidence here to name a winner over Gran Turismo. For a useful comparison, focus on what matters to you: handling and setup, career variety and pacing, online race formats and penalty enforcement, platform performance, and the selection of cars and circuits. The PC Gamer review supports a favorable view of Forza Motorsport’s handling and online structure, alongside a criticism of its familiar career, but it does not establish how those areas compare directly with Gran Turismo.
Platforms, access and multiplayer requirements
The current Xbox listing identifies Xbox Series X|S and PC play, plus cloud gaming. It states that console online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately. Subscription availability and terms can vary by region and date, so check the official listing for your region before relying on a particular access option. The store also lists digital editions and add-ons; prices and entitlements are not fixed by the evidence here.
Quick Recap
Who should play Forza Motorsport?
- Play it for circuit driving: the strongest independent review cited here praises the handling and race feel.
- Consider it for online competition: the review favored multiplayer, and later updates added race formats and spectating features.
- Be cautious if career novelty is essential: the launch review found the solo structure familiar.
- Do not treat old PC crash reports as a current verdict: they describe a particular review build from 2023, and no current cross-platform benchmark is established here.
