By late July 2025, inZOI had been in Early Access for about four months. The fairest answer to whether it held up against The Sims is: it offered a different kind of appeal, but the available evidence does not establish a universal winner. The comparison turns on what matters most to you—character and build creation, a coherent autonomous simulation, stability, playable variety, content maturity, and the PC you own.
What “four months later” means
inZOI entered Early Access on March 28, 2025, so four months later places the comparison around late July 2025. That date matters: it is an Early Access snapshot, not a verdict on the game’s current state or a claim that it matched The Sims feature for feature.

The evidence available here supports a comparison of development context and published system requirements, not hands-on testing of both games. It does not establish a July 2025 feature-parity list, comparative crash rates, controlled performance results, or a definitive ranking across The Sims 4 and its expansions. Treat claims about which game feels better to play as individual preference unless backed by direct, dated gameplay evidence.
Where the comparison matters most
Simulation depth and autonomy
A life sim’s appeal depends not only on how many activities it offers, but on whether its systems work together in ways that make characters’ lives feel coherent. A feature list alone cannot answer that question. In a later official post dated June 19, 2026, inZOI director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim said the team wanted existing features to connect more naturally and described work on character behavior, schedules, and controls for managing the simulation. That is a statement of development direction—not independent proof of how well the systems worked in July 2025.

- Develop Parenting Skills – Level up your Sim’s parenting skills to satisfy their child’s needs and influence their behaviors. Gain new abilities through experience and choosing when to discipline bad actions, encourage good behavior, or just let kids be kids.
- Shape Your Sim’s Childhood – The decisions you make influence how your Sim parents and leave a lasting impact on their child’s future. Each choice shapes their personality, affects their traits, influences their family relationships, and guides their path into adulthood.
- Gather your Sim’s family to participate in new activities and spend quality time with each other. Sims of all ages can work together to complete a variety of school projects, express their creativity using construction blocks, or volunteer their time for good.
- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
Stability and reliability
Kim’s June 2026 post also acknowledged reports from players of crashes, regressions, interface issues, unexpected behavior, and bugs. Those are the developer’s description of recurring feedback, not measured bug rates. EA’s February 2026 Sims 4 roadmap likewise listed planned investigations into Sim autonomy, infant and caregiver behavior, crashes, and data loss. A roadmap describes intended work, not fixes already delivered. Neither source provides a neutral head-to-head stability measurement.
Activities, relationships, and content maturity
Kim’s 2026 post said players had responded positively to additions including schools, businesses, vehicles, family systems, shopping, and relationships, while emphasizing that making existing systems interact well was a priority. This is later context and should not be read as a verified inventory of what was available in July 2025. EA’s roadmap, published February 24, 2026, named dining and meal behavior and family trees and relationships as later focus themes; these were plans, not confirmation that the work had shipped.

For a July 2025 decision, distinguish what you could actually play then from what either developer later planned or added. The available evidence does not support a complete comparison of every Sims 4 expansion against inZOI’s Early Access content.
Mods and the role of the base game
Kim’s June 19, 2026 post set out a principle for inZOI’s mod support: “Mods should expand the game, not complete it.” He framed simulation depth, stability, core gameplay, and natural interactions as responsibilities of the official game. This tells you how the director described the team’s intent; it does not establish a direct comparison of available mods or mod ecosystems at the four-month mark.

Does your PC meet inZOI’s requirements?
Steam’s published requirements for inZOI include separate Windows and Apple Silicon specifications. The Windows graphics recommendations are relatively demanding compared with the minimum tier, but requirements are not performance guarantees: they do not promise a particular resolution, frame rate, or settings experience, and they are not a direct comparison with The Sims 4.
| Platform and tier | Operating system | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows minimum | Windows 10/11 | Intel i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | 12 GB RAM | NVIDIA RTX 2060 (6 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT (6 GB VRAM) | 40 GB |

Steam also lists DirectX 12 and broadband internet for the Windows tiers. Check the live Steam listing before deciding, since requirements can change. Compare your existing hardware with the listed tier before considering an upgrade; nothing here shows that every player needs a new graphics card.

What later updates can—and cannot—tell you
Later developer statements help explain the priorities behind both games, but they cannot retroactively prove what the July 2025 comparison looked like. In June 2026, Kim described a focus on fixing the base game, strengthening connections between existing content, and prioritizing stability and deeper simulation over further world expansion. He also summarized two approaches: adjusting internal values and priorities that affect character behavior and schedules, and adding controls to help players understand and manage the simulation.
EA’s February 24, 2026 Quality of Life roadmap said the initiative aimed to improve reliability and reduce gameplay friction. It listed investigations into autonomy, infant and caregiver behavior, crashes, and data loss for March through August, and dining behavior and family trees and relationships for September through December. EA cautioned that timing and specifics could vary and that some areas required deeper technical investigation. These were planned focus areas, not a record of completed fixes.

How to decide which game holds up for you
- Choose by play style: Decide whether your priority is creating characters and builds, watching autonomous lives unfold, trying a broad range of activities, or exploring relationships and family play.
- Check the date on claims: Separate what was playable in late July 2025 from later additions, developer priorities, and roadmap plans.
- Weigh maturity against direction: Early Access status and later development statements describe different things. A stated goal to deepen simulation is not evidence that the goal has already been reached.
- Check hardware before choosing inZOI: Compare your PC with Steam’s requirements, remembering that they do not predict a particular performance result.
- Do not treat feature counts as a verdict: The available evidence does not measure which game produces more coherent behavior or is more reliable in ordinary play.
Verdict
At roughly four months after its March 28, 2025 Early Access launch, inZOI’s comparison with The Sims is best understood as a choice between experiences, not a proven contest with one overall winner. The available evidence supports a careful comparison of priorities and hardware—not a definitive July 2025 judgment about quality, stability, or feature parity. Later statements from both developers point to ongoing work on reliability and simulation behavior, but plans and priorities are not substitutes for evidence of what players could experience at the time.
