Verdict: The Fractal Design Scape is an unusually polished wireless gaming headset whose included inductive charging stand is genuinely useful. It delivers good game and music audio, 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.3 and USB connectivity, and a restrained design that suits a desk or office. At the roughly $200 US reference price, however, it is not an automatic recommendation: the 338 g weight, lack of active noise cancellation, no simultaneous multi-source mixing and inconsistent microphone reviews matter if those are your priorities.
Launched on June 18, 2025, the Scape is Fractal Design’s first headset. B&H Photo listed the dark model at $199.99 when indexed; treat that as a date-stamped retail reference and recheck current price and stock before buying (launch announcement; B&H listing).
What makes the Scape different
Most wireless gaming headsets are designed to disappear into a drawer with a charging cable. The Scape is designed to live on your desk. Its magnet-assisted stand charges the headset inductively; lifting it wakes the headset, and returning it starts charging. That turns battery maintenance into a simple habit rather than another cable to find.
The headset uses Scandinavian-inspired styling, fabric-covered earcups and headband, metal-alloy accents and restrained lighting (six individually addressable LEDs per earcup). The boom microphone detaches, making the Scape less conspicuously gamer-like for music, calls or mobile use, although its large, non-folding body is still not a travel-headphone substitute.

Specifications are from Fractal’s product page and support walkthrough. A high-resolution codec does not by itself prove better sound; listening performance and fit matter more.

Fractal says multiple Bluetooth devices can remain connected, but the Scape cannot mix audio from multiple sources. That is different from true simultaneous game-and-phone playback. Platform details are documented in Fractal’s compatibility article.
Design, build and comfort
The Scape looks closer to premium desk audio than a typical RGB gaming headset. Fabric softens the visual impact, while the metal-alloy details avoid a cheap plastic impression. The trade-off is maintenance: light fabric can show dust, hair and stains more readily than smooth synthetic leather.

- 48-ohm drive: full volume from any source - laptop, interface, phone, or console - no headphone amp needed.
- Mix with confidence: open-back reference sound reveals the placement, depth, and detail your mix depends on.
- STELLAR.45 driver: flagship transducer for precise, high-resolution monitoring at any listening level.
- Open-back soundstage: wide, natural imaging for mixing, editing, and critical listening.
- In the box: DT 990 Pro X, detachable 3m mini-XLR cable, and 1/4-inch adapter. Made in Germany - plug straight into any source.
Fit is personal. Headband pressure, glasses, ear shape and heat buildup determine whether the deep cups remain comfortable. PC Gamer found long-session comfort good, while Tom’s Guide noted minor comfort concerns. At 338 g with the boom attached, it is not lightweight; some users will appreciate the solid balance, while others will notice the mass after several hours. The headset does not fold into a particularly compact travel shape.
The stand is stable and practical if the headset normally lives in one place. It needs roughly 160 × 205 × 90 mm of desk space, and the headset must be returned to the contact area consistently. In darkness, the magnet-assisted alignment is more useful than a loose charging cable, but this is an inductive stand, not documented Qi charging.
Sound quality for games and everyday listening
Gaming
Independent reviews broadly describe the Scape as accurate, rich or lush. Its 40 mm drivers provide clear dialogue and positional information, with enough bass impact for explosions and action games without making every sound muddy. That makes it suitable for both cinematic single-player titles and competitive play, although players seeking an especially analytical tuning may prefer a headset with a more explicitly esports-focused profile.

- Versatile Tri-Mode Connectivity: Features Bluetooth, 2.4GHz (via ROG SpeedNova wireless technology), and 3.5mm wired connection options for extensive compatibility.
- Multi-Platform Compatibility: Works seamlessly across multiple devices including PC and Mac, consoles such as PlayStation (PS4/PS5), Xbox (Series X|S and One), Nintendo (Switch 1/Switch 2), and mobile.
- DualFlow Audio: Simultaneously connect to two devices via 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. This wireless gaming headset makes it easy to switch between PC, console, and mobile audio or pick up phone calls with a single press of the earcup button.
- Immersive High-Fidelity Audio: Equipped with 50mm titanium-plated diaphragm drivers, delivering high-resolution 24-bit/96 kHz audio (in 2.4GHz mode). The refined wireless sound signature offers natural, realistic audio for an unparalleled gaming, music, and everyday experience. Built as over-ear headphones, they enhance clarity across highs, mids, and bass.
- Super-Wideband Microphone: Features a 10mm detachable boom mic with a super-wideband frequency range to ensure your voice is captured with exceptional clarity and detail during intense team battles, streaming, and online calls, including for work.
Use the 2.4 GHz dongle for latency-sensitive gaming. Bluetooth is convenient for phones and tablets, but should not be treated as equivalent for competitive play. USB wired mode is useful at a PC and avoids wireless variables.
Music, films and podcasts
Voices remain intelligible for podcasts and dialogue-heavy films, while the fuller presentation gives music more body than many thin-sounding gaming headsets. Removing the boom improves the appearance for general listening. The Scape remains physically large, however, and its comfort for a desk does not make it an ideal commuting headphone.

Fractal’s Adjust Pro is a browser-based, registration-free tool. Connect by the included cable or dongle, open it in a Chromium-based browser, and use it for EQ, lighting and firmware updates; no resident desktop download is required. The exact controls and firmware can change, so check the current interface before publication or purchase. Firefox and Safari users may need Chromium for configuration (Fractal FAQ).

Microphone and chat performance
The detachable boom is a unidirectional Super Wideband design rated at 50 Hz–16 kHz. The headset also has an omnidirectional built-in microphone and a separate microphone used for noise reduction. Flip-up muting and a physical mute button are both provided.
Reviews disagree materially. RTINGS reports detailed, natural capture and useful background separation; Tom’s Guide calls the microphone tinny and a major weakness; PC Gamer rates it average. Those results mean microphone quality should be treated as the Scape’s biggest uncertainty, not declared categorically good or bad. Before buying for competitive chat, listen to current recordings or test the boom in Discord, console chat and phone calls. Check keyboard and fan rejection, plosives, flip-to-mute behaviour and whether Bluetooth’s hands-free profile changes quality. Microphone noise reduction is not active noise cancellation for the listener.

Fractal claims more than 40 hours with RGB off and more than 24 hours with RGB on, with a full charge taking less than three hours through either the dock or USB. Fifteen minutes provides up to four hours of RGB-on playback, and the stated unobstructed wireless range is up to 40 m (official specifications).

RTINGS measured approximately 46 hours in its test, but laboratory runtime is not a universal guarantee. The meaningful advantage is workflow: lift, play, return and charge. That advantage fades for handheld or travelling users, who must carry a large headset and gain little from a desk stand. Keep the USB-A dongle close to the computer; newer laptops may require an adapter or hub, and poor placement can affect reception.
Controls and daily operation
The left earcup houses a volume/media crown, power button, connection switch, lighting control, microphone mute, microphone-noise-cancellation control and EQ-profile switching. The crown handles volume, play/pause and next track. A quick power-button press can show battery status through the lighting. These controls are comprehensive, but learning several similarly sized controls by touch takes practice; verify mute state rather than relying only on an audio prompt.
Scape versus alternatives
| Alternative | Choose it when | What the Scape does better |
|---|---|---|
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 | You want an established gaming ecosystem and comparable feature set | More distinctive design and included inductive dock |
| Razer BlackShark V2 Pro | Competitive microphone and gaming features matter most | Quieter industrial design and desk charging workflow |
| Sony Pulse Elite | You are primarily a PS5 user | Broader PC/mobile flexibility and more neutral styling |
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless | You will pay more for an advanced base station | Lower-cost, simpler dock focused on automatic charging |
Should you buy the Fractal Design Scape?
Buy it if the charging stand solves a real daily annoyance, your headset will stay at a desk, and you value understated design alongside flexible PC/console/mobile connectivity. Its audio is broadly well regarded, Adjust Pro avoids mandatory account-based software, and the detachable boom makes it more versatile outside games.
Skip it if ANC, the lightest fit, simultaneous game-and-phone audio or consistently excellent voice capture matters more than desk convenience. The Scape’s premium is easiest to justify as an ownership experience—the headset is ready when lifted and charged when replaced—not as a decisive victory in every sound or microphone measurement.
