What “free” needs to mean for a 24/7 rain stream
A rain stream has a stricter requirement than a short broadcast: the service needs to keep prerecorded video playing continuously, preferably in a loop or playlist, without depending on your home computer. Check each part of that requirement separately.
- Runtime: Is there a cap per stream, per day, or per month? A service may advertise continuous streaming while still limiting the hours available on its free plan.
- Looping: Can you queue or repeat prerecorded files? A live encoder is not necessarily a cloud playout service with playlists.
- Where it runs: Cloud playout can continue while your computer is off. Self-hosting requires a local computer or server to remain operating.
- What “free” covers: Check trial periods, monthly allowances, storage, compute credits, outbound delivery, and what happens when a limit is reached. No subscription charge does not eliminate electricity, internet, hardware, or maintenance costs.
Confirm the destination platform’s current rules for long-duration prerecorded livestreams and make sure you have the rights to every rain recording, image, and sound in the stream. The provider plan details below do not establish those platform-policy or licensing questions.

How to choose without mistaking an allowance for 24/7 service
- Ask whether the free plan supports uninterrupted prerecorded streaming. Get a clear answer about session, daily, and monthly limits, and whether the stream stops or incurs a charge at the cap.
- Confirm looping and playlist support. Ask whether your rain video can repeat automatically and whether that feature is included in the free plan.
- Check where playout happens. A cloud service should continue without your home computer; an encoder running on a PC or server will not.
- Read the billing boundaries. For cloud compute, include credits, their expiry, usage limits, storage, and outbound delivery. A free credit balance is not proof of free indefinite streaming.
- Check the destination and content rules. Confirm current YouTube requirements for long-running prerecorded streams and rights for your video and audio before going live.
If a provider cannot confirm unlimited runtime and looping on its free tier, treat it as a capped trial or a limited-hours tool, not an always-on free solution.
Could you run the rain stream yourself?
Yes. You can use a home PC with streaming software such as OBS, or operate your own hardware or a VPS. In either case, the encoder and network connection need to remain available for the stream to continue. The available information does not establish what your electricity, bandwidth, equipment, maintenance, or hosting would cost, or whether a particular machine is suitable. Self-hosting may avoid a cloud-service subscription, but it is not automatically free overall.

A VPS or cloud-compute free tier also needs careful costing: compute credits and monthly service limits do not settle the costs of a continuously running encoder and video delivery. Work out those charges for your specific setup before treating it as a no-cost option.
