Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe clearest free weekend on Steam right now is Squad 44, a temporary trial that runs from Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 10 AM Pacific to Monday, October 12 at 10 AM Pacific. It is play access only: when the weekend ends, you need to buy the game to keep playing it.
The only permanent claims in the current tracker data are four Free to Keep listings: World of Warships (Ning Hai), Gear.Club Unlimited 3 (Gear.Club Signature Pack), Rotwood (Drakin Armoury Pack) and MXGP 26 (Scrubdesignz Liveries). None of them is a free full game on the evidence available. The list below reflects what could be checked on October 8, 2026 at 17:37 UTC. It is not guaranteed to be exhaustive, because two tracker entries could not be fully identified, as explained near the end of this article.
Squad 44: a temporary free weekend
Steam’s own news announcement lists Squad 44’s free weekend as running from October 8 at 10 AM Pacific to October 12 at 10 AM Pacific. In UTC, that is 17:00 UTC on October 8 through 17:00 UTC on October 12, since Pacific Daylight Time is UTC-7 during October.
Steamworks documentation defines the format this way: “A Free Weekend is a time-limited promotion that allows players to temporarily access and play an eligible game for free—typically over a long four-day weekend.” The same documentation says that continued play after the event requires purchasing the full version. Steamworks describes Thursday 10 AM Pacific to Monday 10 AM Pacific as the typical timing, but individual offers can differ, so the dates on Squad 44’s own announcement are the ones to rely on.

Free weekend, Free to Keep and free-to-play: what each one means
Three terms are often mixed up on Steam. They work differently after the offer ends, so check which one a listing uses before you claim anything.
| Category | What you get | What happens afterward | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Weekend | Temporary access to an eligible game for the length of the event | Access ends when the event ends. Continued play requires purchase. | Steamworks documentation |

| Play For Free event | Play access to a title for a set promotion | Access ends unless you buy the game, according to SteamDB’s distinction | SteamDB tracker guidance |
| Always free-to-play | Download and play with no subscription or credit card | No end date. Supported games may offer optional in-game purchases. | Steam Support |

- Hardcover journal with 240 line-ruled pages (120 sheets)
- Built-in elastic closure and ribbon bookmark
- Includes an expandable inner storage pocket and a pen holder
- ARC Raiders (Play For Free): SteamDB lists it under Play For Free, but no dates appeared on the tracker page at the time of checking. No weekend schedule is given here. The title’s store page should show whether it is time-limited or always free to play.
- An unnamed Free to Keep offer running October 8 to 10: The tracker shows an offer in this window, but its title was missing from the extracted page text. If it is still live when you read this, it is worth checking SteamDB’s live tracker directly. The end time on October 10 was not stated.
How to claim a Free to Keep offer
- Open the offer from SteamDB’s tracker, or search for the game’s name in the Steam store.
- Confirm the offer is still live on the store page and note the expiry time there. The tracker’s UTC time is the reference, but the store page is the authority.
- Read what the page says is included. A pack or add-on does not give you the base game.
- Check whether you already own the item. Claiming something you already have is not useful.
- Claim it before the expiry time, while signed in to the Steam account that should keep it.
- Open your Steam Library and confirm the item appears there.
Button wording and placement vary by offer, so follow whatever the store page shows.
