The official habitat listing places Thornblade in the Sea of Flowers. If you are hunting a wild encounter, travel there first and use the normal encounter-refresh routine for your version of Aniimo. Habitat information identifies where the creature can appear; it does not promise a particular spawn rate, time of day or individual form.

Thornblade belongs to the Budsquire evolution line. Budsquire can branch toward Melloblum as well, so evolution is not a matter of selecting the first available button. Confirm the destination shown on the live evolution screen before you spend materials.

- Obtain and register Budsquire. Make sure the creature you are preparing is the Budsquire entry, rather than another member of the line.
- Open Budsquire’s evolution interface. Use the creature details or evolution command in your current game build.
- Inspect every branch. Select the Thornblade preview and compare it with the Melloblum preview. The name, portrait and resulting form should all match your intended target.
- Read the material requirement on that screen. Available references describe a Lumin-to-Gamma progression, but published material counts are not fully consistent. The in-game requirement for your patch is the authoritative one.
- Confirm the evolution only after checking the destination. If the prompt shows Melloblum, cancel and change the branch before consuming anything.
- Review the result. After evolution, verify Thornblade’s number, form and skill list in the creature details panel.
The Aniim.org index notes that its data is derived from the official in-game index and can change with balance patches. The Aniimo Eggs guide was checked against the released game on 4 October 2026 but says some details have not been re-confirmed since launch. Those limitations are why a fixed material-count list should not override the live prompt.
How does Thornblade’s combat kit work?
Sword Dance: build stacks, then cash them in
Sword Dance grants one stack every time Thornblade uses a skill, up to four stacks. Stacks last 15 seconds. Each basic attack consumes one stack and deals 180% extra damage. The practical implication is that basic attacks are strongest after you have used skills, but waiting too long risks letting the stacks expire.
Do not treat the four-stack cap as a reason to stop using skills forever. Once you reach four, spend stacks with basic attacks, then resume the skill cycle. If an enemy is about to become invulnerable, move away or change targets rather than burning all four stacks into a target that cannot take damage.

Thorny Defense: mitigation and a reaction bonus
Thorny Defense places Thornblade in a defensive stance, reducing damage taken by 20% and counterattacking when struck. If Thornblade is attacked at the moment the skill is activated, its critical rate increases by 30% for 15 seconds. The critical bonus rewards a reaction to an incoming hit; pressing the button safely before any attack arrives still provides the defensive stance but may not provide that conditional increase.

Because the stance both protects and punishes attackers, it is useful when you expect a telegraphed hit, an area attack that cannot easily be avoided, or a short period in which the boss remains in melee range. Do not use it automatically on cooldown if the next attack is delayed beyond the stance’s useful window.
Thorny Impact and Lightning Impact
Thorny Impact increases critical rate by 15% for 15 seconds when it hits. Lightning Impact has the same listed critical-rate effect and is associated with the Thunderstorm form in the supporting guide. These buffs affect your damage planning: use a critical-rate skill before spending a full set of Sword Dance-enhanced basic attacks when the target will remain vulnerable.
What is the recommended Thornblade rotation?
- Open with a skill. This starts your Sword Dance stack count and applies any relevant skill effect.
- Use additional skills while the target is vulnerable. Each skill adds a stack, up to four, and may activate Thorny Impact or Lightning Impact depending on your form and loadout.
- Spend stacks with basic attacks. Each basic attack consumes one stack and receives the 180% extra damage described by Sword Dance.
- Rebuild instead of overcapping. Continue alternating skills and basic attacks so stacks do not sit at four while you keep casting skills, and do not allow the 15-second duration to expire unused.
- Time Thorny Defense around a hit. Activate it as the enemy attack connects when you are seeking the conditional 30% critical-rate increase; otherwise, use it for the 20% damage reduction and counterattack.
- Repeat after repositioning. If the enemy leaves range, prioritize survival and uptime over forcing a basic attack that will miss.
This is a timing loop rather than a rigid button script. Enemy invulnerability, stagger windows and attack patterns determine whether you should spend stacks immediately or hold them briefly.

The supporting guide discusses four forms: Basic, Prismana, Towerwood and Thunderstorm. It associates Prismana with Sea of Flowers spawns and describes Thunderstorm as Grass/Electric. Element listings are not fully consistent across available databases, so open the live Change Form menu and read the element, skills and passive effects shown there before assembling a team.

There is no universally correct form. Compare habitat and availability, element pairing, skill access, timing difficulty, expected damage and the BREAK or support coverage supplied by your other party members. If your roster already supplies strong Electric coverage but lacks reliable BREAK, a form that preserves damage while teammates handle BREAK may be more practical than chasing a second elemental weakness.
How should Thornblade fit into a team?
Reserve Thornblade’s slot for damage. Its listed ATK of 121 and Sword Dance mechanic reward uninterrupted attacking, so another party member should normally handle BREAK pressure, crowd control, healing or defensive support. A team built from several damage dealers may clear ordinary encounters quickly but can struggle when an enemy requires sustained BREAK or when Thornblade must stop attacking to survive.
- BREAK specialist: creates longer windows in which Thornblade can spend Sword Dance stacks safely.
- Support or healer: keeps the DPS active after Thorny Defense ends and reduces the cost of taking unavoidable hits.
- Secondary damage dealer: covers targets resistant to your selected form or continues attacking while Thornblade repositions.
Check the selected form’s element in the Change Form menu immediately before finalizing the party. A database label that conflicts with the live menu should not determine your team.

Common problems and fixes
“I searched the Sea of Flowers and found nothing.”
Habitat listing does not establish a guaranteed encounter rate. Refresh the area using your normal encounter method, check the egg routes, and consider a trade partner if the search remains unsuccessful.

Budsquire has a branch. Back out of the confirmation prompt, select the Thornblade branch and reread the material requirement. Do not spend resources until the preview clearly names Thornblade.
“My damage feels low even with Sword Dance.”
Check whether you are using skills often enough to build stacks and whether basic attacks are actually consuming them. A stack expires after 15 seconds, and the 180% extra damage applies to the basic attack that consumes a stack, not to every attack indefinitely.
“Thorny Defense did not grant 30% critical rate.”
The critical increase is conditional. Thornblade must be attacked at the moment Thorny Defense is used. If you activated the stance while no hit was arriving, you can still receive the 20% damage reduction and counterattack, but the conditional critical bonus may not trigger.

Form and element data can change or be recorded inconsistently. Open Change Form in your current build and use the displayed element and skill list as the final authority for team planning.
What should you verify after a patch?
Balance updates can alter material costs, form elements, skill effects, encounter rules or attribute values. After a major patch, recheck Budsquire’s evolution prompt, Thornblade’s details panel, every form in Change Form, and the current skill descriptions. The official Aniimo Wiki is the primary reference for the listed stats, habitat, Sword Dance and Thorny Defense, while the in-game screens resolve conflicts about your specific version.
