FreshCut reported 2 million visitors within five months of launch, but that figure was not a monthly active-user count. The platform later announced it was closing, saying it had not built a sustainable business in time. Its growth is best understood as a short-lived startup milestone—not evidence that FreshCut remains available today.
What did “2 million visitors” mean?
GamesBeat’s 2023 account described FreshCut as reaching 2 million visitors over a five-month period. The same report gave a separate engagement figure: 910,000 monthly active users by the end of the second quarter. Visitors and monthly active users are different measures, so the headline figure should not be read as two million people active every month. GamesBeat’s 2023 report also said FreshCut had attracted 130,000 content creators at that time.
By the time it announced the platform’s closure, FreshCut said it had accumulated more than 2.5 million users and 300,000 creators. Those are the company’s own cumulative figures, as reported in its closure post, not independently audited totals. FreshCut’s closure announcement does not establish a comparable monthly-active-user count for that later point.
What was FreshCut?
FreshCut was a gaming-focused short-form video and community platform. Instead of centering on general-interest clips, it organized discovery around game communities and combined video browsing with creator interaction and reward features. GamesBeat named Roblox, Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros communities; it reported that Roblox accounted for more than half of users and viewership at the time.

Clips, discovery, and creator tools
Users could find curated or recommended gaming clips, while creators had upload and editing tools under the name FreshCut Studio. Reacts let creators respond to videos, adding a reaction format to the short-clip feed. These descriptions reflect FreshCut’s 2023-era product, not present-day service availability.
Community rewards and Diamonds
FreshCut Diamonds were used for creator tips and rewards, including rewards connected to a merch store. GamesBeat reported eight million Diamond tips, which it equated to $80,000, and more than $1 million invested in creators through the Community Fund. These are figures reported in its 2023 coverage, not a guarantee that Diamonds could be redeemed for cash at a fixed rate by every user.

FreshCut had earlier presented a broader Web3 vision. In a 2022 announcement, it described a community content ecosystem in which creators and fans would participate in rewards and influence the platform’s direction. That release discussed token-based earning mechanics as an announced model; it does not establish that all proposed mechanics operated over the platform’s lifetime or generated lasting value. FreshCut’s 2022 announcement said the company and ecosystem partners had collectively raised $15 million. That company-stated figure has a different scope from the $11.6 million funding total cited by GamesBeat in 2023.
How were FreshCut creators supposed to earn?
In the GamesBeat interview, CEO and cofounder James Kuk said the then-current tip split was 90% to creators and 10% to FreshCut. He said most of FreshCut’s share was reinvested in its Community Fund. He described advertising revenue sharing as a future intention, not an existing creator payment system: FreshCut intended to activate ads over time and share meaningful revenue with partnered creators. The interview and report therefore describe distinct approaches at different stages: token-based rewards in the 2022 vision, Diamond tipping in later product coverage, and planned—not established—ad revenue sharing.

Is FreshCut still active?
No: FreshCut announced that its platform would close. The closure post said the team was unable to build a sustainable business in time, particularly in the prevailing financial climate. That is the company’s stated explanation; the available account does not establish a fuller causal analysis. The post refers to Friday, June 14, but its accessible text does not display the year, so a precise closure year should not be inferred from that date alone. The cited sources also do not establish the company’s subsequent legal status or whether its assets were transferred.
What FreshCut’s growth story does—and does not—show
FreshCut’s early visitor milestone, creator activity, and community features show the scale the company said it reached, while its later closure marks the limit of what those numbers can prove. They do not establish that FreshCut retained users better, generated more creator income, or outperformed TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, or another platform. The case is more useful as a snapshot of a gaming-specific product strategy: organize around game communities, make clips easy to discover and react to, and try to support creators with tips and rewards. FreshCut’s own account of its shutdown shows that audience growth alone did not produce a sustainable business in time.
