A slow door transition is different from a save that stops loading after a mod change or an endless Creations sign-in screen. Start by identifying the symptom, then use the platform-specific steps below.
First, identify which loading problem you have
- Slow transitions during ordinary play: Use the PC performance checks below if you play on PC. The available guidance does not establish one cause or a guaranteed fix for every slow transition.
- A loading screen or startup problem after adding many mods on console: Bethesda’s console instructions address this specific situation. Follow the Xbox or PlayStation branch below.
- An infinite screen while signing in to Creations: Check the account-linking case described in Bethesda’s May 27, 2026 update notes; it is not the same as a slow in-game load.
If the issue began after changing mods, load order, or the game itself, note that timing before troubleshooting. It can help distinguish a mod-related problem from a general performance issue, but does not by itself identify the cause.
What PC players can safely try first
Bethesda’s PC performance troubleshooting steps are a sensible starting point. They are intended for poor PC performance and should not be treated as a promise to reduce every Fallout 4 loading delay.
- Open the Fallout 4 launcher and reset video options to the auto-detected defaults.
- Try lowering graphics settings or resolution.
- Close background software that may be using system resources.
- Update your graphics driver.
- Check that your PC meets the game’s system requirements.
- Reset Fallout 4’s INI files.
- Try borderless or windowed mode.
Change one thing at a time and check whether the same type of load improves. That makes it easier to tell whether a setting change helped rather than simply changed the symptom.

PC mod option: High FPS Physics Fix
If you are comfortable using mods, the High FPS Physics Fix listing says the mod reduces loading time, among other functions. The listing showed version 0.8.23, updated September 8, 2026. It requires Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE) and Address Library for F4SE Plugins.
Check the listing’s current requirements and compatibility with your installed Fallout 4 build and other mods before installing. This is a modded setup with dependencies, not a universal or guaranteed remedy; if you do not want those dependencies, begin with Bethesda’s basic PC troubleshooting instead.

Console: use Bethesda’s steps only for the mod-related loading problem
Bethesda’s console loading and startup guidance is specifically for trouble after activating many mods. It is not a general fix for every slow door transition or ordinary save load.
Xbox
Bethesda instructs Xbox players to clear Fallout 4’s Reserved Space. Be careful to select Reserved Space, not your actual save file. Clearing the wrong data could put your saves at risk.

PlayStation
Bethesda’s instruction is to uninstall and reinstall Fallout 4 for the described mod-related loading or startup issue.
When adding mods
Bethesda advises against activating too many new mods at once and warns that more than 10+ is at risk. Add mods in smaller batches so a newly introduced problem is easier to trace.

Creations sign-in hang: check the account-linking case
Bethesda’s Fallout 4 patch notes say the May 27, 2026 update fixed an infinite loading screen when signing in to Creations with an account already linked to another platform account. The notes identify the fix for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. If your symptom matches that exact Creations sign-in scenario, check that the game is up to date. This note does not establish a fix for ordinary gameplay load times.
Bethesda’s patch page lists an August 18, 2026 update as well. The existence of a newer patch does not change the scope of the specific May Creations fix; consult the Next Gen Update 2 notes for that update’s details.

Will moving Fallout 4 to an SSD make it load faster?
An SSD is an option for PC players who currently run the game from slower storage, but the available community reports are anecdotal. They do not establish a typical improvement or guarantee that changing storage will fix long loads. No controlled benchmark here quantifies the difference, so treat an SSD as a possible hardware improvement, not a proven Fallout 4-specific cure.
