Start with the version your players will run
Hosting choice is secondary to version compatibility. Conan Exiles Enhanced is the PC Steam UE5 edition that launched on May 5, 2026. Console editions remain on UE4, and every client must match the server’s version. A UE5 client cannot join a UE4 server, and a console client cannot join a PC Steam server.

Enhanced combines Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah on one server. The Isle of Siptah downloadable content is still required for access to that content; the map merge does not remove the DLC requirement. If your community is staying on the older PC build, order or configure a Legacy UE4 server instead of assuming an Enhanced plan can be switched transparently.
Funcom said it was working with selected providers to support UE5 at launch. That wording matters: a host may advertise Conan Exiles while still offering only Legacy hosting, or may require a separate Enhanced order. Confirm the exact edition in the provider’s current order screen before paying.

GTX presents Enhanced (UE5) and Legacy (UE4) as separate hosting choices. That separation is useful for communities that need to preserve an existing UE4 world while a different group tests Enhanced. It also reduces the risk of ordering a generic Conan Exiles service and discovering that the selected executable is the wrong generation.

GTX is the practical first comparison for a PC Steam group that wants a managed server, a choice of datacenters and a documented path for either UE5 or UE4. Its stated RAM and NVMe ceilings are especially relevant when a server carries a large mod collection or a busy build area. Ask support which resource tier applies to your chosen slot plan; “up to” 10GB does not mean every plan receives that amount.

- Which of the 19 locations is available for your exact Enhanced or Legacy plan?
- How long are daily backups retained, and can you download a copy?
- Can support restore a particular backup or roll back a failed mod update?
- Does upgrading slots change RAM, CPU priority or storage, and what is the prorated cost?
- Can you upload an existing
game.dband configuration files yourself, or does support perform the transfer?

Why administrators consider it
Host Havoc emphasizes control rather than a long public specification table. Its Conan Exiles page lists one-click installation and management for Steam Workshop mods and Collections, plus FTP and a browser file manager. A web console and log viewer let an administrator inspect startup messages and runtime errors without connecting through a separate desktop tool.

Backups, security and support
Host Havoc lists offsite backups and multi-tier DDoS mitigation. Offsite storage is valuable when a machine or disk fails, but ask about retention, restore timing and whether you can retrieve an archive before relying on it as your only copy. The page also advertises 24/7 support, which can matter during a failed update or mod conflict; advertised availability is not the same as a guaranteed resolution time.
Best fit and trade-offs

Nitrado is documented as having an official Conan Exiles Enhanced offer. That makes it worth checking for communities that prefer an established console-and-PC hosting ecosystem. However, the current price and feature details were not reliably accessible in the information available for this comparison.
Do not infer slot limits, RAM, backup retention, locations or mod tooling from a Legacy listing or from another game on the same platform. Open the live Conan Exiles Enhanced order page and confirm the edition, billing period, renewal price, Workshop support, file access, backup policy and migration assistance. If the listing does not clearly identify UE5, ask support for written confirmation before moving a live world.

Self-hosting with Funcom’s dedicated-server application
What you gain
Funcom provides a dedicated-server application, configuration instructions and a list of required network ports. Running it on your own PC, rented VPS or dedicated machine avoids a managed-host subscription and gives you direct control over files, launch parameters, mods, scheduled tasks and update timing.
What you become responsible for
- Patch management: install the correct server build and coordinate updates with the clients. A version mismatch prevents connections.
- Network exposure: open and forward every port Funcom specifies, configure the host firewall and restrict administrative access.
- Backups: create scheduled copies, store at least one copy away from the server disk and test a restore before you need it.
- Availability: consumer internet outages, reboots and power failures become your downtime unless you build redundancy.
- Security and abuse handling: protect the machine, monitor logs and decide how to respond to attacks or excessive traffic.
- Support: there is no host operator to repair a broken mod load order or restore a world at 3 a.m.; you diagnose it.
A safe self-hosting rollout
- Choose a machine with sufficient CPU headroom, memory and fast storage for your intended player count and mod set. Leave capacity for operating-system services and backups.
- Install the dedicated-server application using Funcom’s current instructions for your operating system.
- Apply the required ports from Funcom’s documentation to your firewall and router. Do not invent alternate ports or expose administration interfaces unnecessarily.
- Start an unmodded test instance, connect from a separate client and confirm that saving, restarting and graceful shutdown work.
- Add mods in small batches, recording Workshop IDs and load order. Restart after each batch so a failure has a clear cause.
- Automate timestamped backups of the save database and configuration, then copy them to separate storage.
- Document the launch command, port settings, mod list and restore procedure so another administrator can operate the server.
How to choose by real-world requirement
Choose by geography before chasing small price differences
Latency follows the physical route between players and the datacenter. Count where most players live, then select the nearest practical location. GTX’s 19 listed locations give it a wider documented choice than the other options in this comparison, but a larger menu is not proof that any particular route is fastest. Have players in your main regions run a short in-game test after deployment.
Choose capacity by more than slots
Slots describe the maximum simultaneous connections, not the workload created by bases, thralls, placeables, automation and mods. Compare RAM, CPU priority and storage alongside slots. GTX documents up to 10GB RAM and 100GB NVMe included; the other listings here do not provide an equivalent complete resource matrix. If a provider cannot state the allocation, ask before ordering and keep the answer with your service records.
Choose a mod workflow you can maintain
One-click Workshop installation is convenient for standard collections, but administrators still need a plan for updates and conflicts. Ask whether the panel preserves load order, shows a failed item in logs and lets you roll back configuration. FTP or a file manager is important when you need to edit settings, upload a custom file or retrieve a save. Host Havoc explicitly lists all of those administration paths; GTX lists one-click Workshop installation.

Choose backups that support recovery, not just marketing
Daily or offsite backups matter only if you know the retention period and restore process. Before inviting players, create a manual restore point, make a harmless configuration change, restore the backup and verify that the world opens. Ask whether backups run while the server is online, whether they include configuration and mod metadata, and whether you can download them for a provider migration.
Check billing beyond the first month
Compare recurring price, currency conversion, taxes, minimum term, refund rules, slot upgrades and the cost of changing locations. GTX’s £10.99, £27.98 and £44.98 examples and Host Havoc’s displayed £22.04 are useful anchors, but they do not establish renewal totals. G-Portal’s examples are quoted per 30 days in Central Europe, so do not compare them to a calendar-month price without checking the billing period and region.

A migration is feasible when the destination accepts the save database and configuration for the same game edition. The central file is commonly identified as game.db; treat it as valuable data and keep the original untouched until the new server has been validated.
- Identify the edition. Record whether the source is Enhanced UE5 or Legacy UE4, the platform, the server settings and the current mod list. The destination must run the same edition before you copy anything.
- Stop the source server cleanly. A controlled shutdown reduces the chance of copying a database while it is being written. Note the shutdown time and make a final backup in the source panel.
- Download the save and configuration. Retrieve
game.db, configuration files and any provider-specific mod or load-order files available to you. Keep a dated local archive. - Recreate the mod environment. Install the same Workshop items in the same order. Do not launch the destination with a different collection and then overwrite the save; mismatched assets can produce missing content or startup errors.
- Upload to the destination. Use the new host’s file manager, FTP service or support-assisted transfer. Follow its required directory structure rather than guessing a path.
- Match settings and permissions. Copy server settings, administrator identifiers and passwords only through secure channels. Remove provider-specific paths or launch arguments that do not apply to the new machine.
- Test privately. Start the destination with a password, connect with an administrator account and check characters, inventories, structures, thralls, map access and mod-dependent items.
- Cut over and preserve rollback. Announce a maintenance window, stop the old server, take one last archive, start the destination and keep the old files until players have confirmed that the world is intact.
Ask the new provider whether it supports direct game.db uploads and whether staff will perform the transfer. A host that cannot explain its migration and restore process is a poor fit for an established world, even if its monthly price is lower.
Troubleshooting common failures
Players see a version or connection mismatch
Confirm that the server and every client are on the same UE5 Enhanced or UE4 Legacy build. Check for a server update that completed without the client update, or a client that opted into a different branch. On consoles, remember that the platform remains UE4.
The server starts but a modded world will not load
Stop the server and compare the destination’s Workshop IDs and order with the source archive. Remove the newest mod temporarily, start with a copy of the save and inspect the web console or log viewer. Never experiment on the only copy of game.db.

Players report rollbacks or missing progress
Check save timestamps, scheduled backup jobs and disk capacity. Restore a dated backup to a temporary instance if the host allows it, then compare the world before replacing the live save. A daily backup can still lose progress made since its last run, so set expectations with the community.

Test from several player networks and at different times. Routing, congestion and the player’s ISP can matter as much as geographic distance. Move only after collecting comparable observations, and confirm that the new location is available for the correct edition and plan.
A self-hosted server is unreachable
Verify that the dedicated process is running, the operating-system firewall allows Funcom’s required ports, the router forwards them to the correct internal address and the public address has not changed. Test from outside the local network; a local connection alone does not prove internet reachability.
Decision guide
- Pick GTX Gaming if you want the most fully documented combination of Enhanced and Legacy support, 19 locations, stated RAM/NVMe limits, daily backups and one-click Workshop installation.
- Pick Host Havoc if direct file access, Workshop Collections, a web console, log viewing, offsite backups and 24/7 support matter more than having a publicly detailed resource table.
- Investigate Nitrado if its live Enhanced offer matches your region and budget, but confirm every price, resource, backup and migration term before committing.
- Self-host if you can operate a machine, secure it, automate backups and accept responsibility for uptime, updates, ports and player support.
- Stay with G-Portal if its current location, pricing and tools already meet your needs; an alternative is worthwhile only when it solves a specific problem such as edition support, administration, geography or migration.
Funcom’s September 15, 2026 Update 2.2.0 announcement describes Iris as sending updates only when needed, reducing the server cost of managing large numbers of players and placeables. That optimization does not remove the need to size a server for your actual population and mod workload. Treat every advertised plan as a starting point, validate it with your players and keep an exportable backup before making a permanent move.
