The amount is a historical company-announced raise—not a current balance sheet or a verified estimate of how much money remains for development. The company’s central pitch was “Free-to-Own” gaming, a proposed model rather than a proven replacement for free-to-play or play-to-earn.
What did Limit Break announce?
In its August 29, 2022 announcement, Limit Break Inc. said it had raised $200 million in investment capital. The company named Buckley Ventures, Standard Crypto, and Paradigm Ventures as sources of that capital. It separately listed FTX, Coinbase Ventures, Anthos Capital, SV Angel, and Shervin Pishevar among its investors; those names should not be conflated with the three capital sources it identified.
Limit Break described DigiDaigaku as its first endeavor. CEO Gabriel Leydon also used the announcement to make a much broader prediction: “Free-to-Play gaming is ending,” said Leydon, “and Limit Break is coming to replace it.” That is Leydon’s position in a company announcement, not evidence that free-to-play is ending or that Limit Break has replaced it. Limit Break’s announcement, via PR Newswire, is the source for the raise, investor names, and quotes.
What does “Free-to-Own” mean?
Limit Break presented Free-to-Own as an alternative to free-to-play and play-to-earn, but its 2022 funding announcement does not provide enough detail to establish a complete operating model or show that the approach succeeded. A useful way to assess any such pitch is to ask who pays to enter, whether ownership is represented by a tokenized asset, how rewards are funded, and whether players are encouraged to resell assets. Those are comparison questions, not measured results for Limit Break.

Leydon also said: “People talk about Web 3 gaming like a futuristic inevitability,” says Leydon, “it’s not. It requires people to properly design and build it. And those people work at Limit Break.” This, too, is promotional language from the company’s announcement. The cited material does not establish an independent adoption figure or business-performance measure for Free-to-Own.
What is DigiDaigaku now?
The official DigiDaigaku site currently presents digital collections, a quest system, dragon quests, and an Adventure Hub for games made with Web3 game developers. Those descriptions indicate what the site presents; they do not establish a complete inventory of playable games or prove that the original vision announced in 2022 has been realized. Check the DigiDaigaku site for its current descriptions and availability.

Do you need a wallet to use DigiDaigaku?
Limit Break’s User Terms describe NFTs implemented on third-party blockchains for use in interactive games and say that minting requires linking a digital wallet. That supports a narrow conclusion: a wallet is required for the described minting flow. It does not establish that every game or site feature requires a wallet. The terms were last updated January 27, 2023, so they may not reflect later changes. See the Limit Break User Terms.
A hardware wallet is an optional way to manage digital-asset keys, not a requirement named in those terms. The terms do not endorse Ledger or establish a Limit Break integration with it. Ledger’s documentation describes Ethereum accounts and receiving Ethereum NFTs, but that does not verify compatibility with DigiDaigaku. Ledger’s Ethereum and NFT guidance was updated July 27, 2026.

What the funding figure does—and doesn’t—tell players
The $200 million figure shows the scale of the investment Limit Break announced in 2022. It does not show the company’s present resources, how much was spent, what remains, or whether its proposed game model has found an audience. For historical context, Limit Break later said it bought a Super Bowl LVII ad slot for DigiDaigaku for $6.5 million in an October 13, 2022 release. That is a company-reported ad-slot purchase, not a development budget or a measure of player adoption. The company’s Super Bowl announcement gives that figure.
