The original warning was real, but the headline is no longer a complete description of the Galaxy Book4 Edge. When Samsung launched its Snapdragon X Elite laptop in June 2024, Samsung Korea warned that some applications, games, printers, security programs and websites might not work correctly on Windows 11 for Arm. Fortnite was among the reported examples.
However, Fortnite later gained Windows-on-Snapdragon support. The Adobe and Google Drive claims also need more precise wording: some Adobe software and the Google Drive desktop application were part of the launch-era compatibility concern, but that does not mean every Adobe product or the Google Drive website is blocked.

What Samsung actually warned buyers about
Samsung’s documented warning appeared on its Korean Galaxy Book4 Edge product page. It did not say that the laptop was unusable or that every Windows program would fail. Instead, it cautioned that some applications, games, printers, websites and security programs might not work on the Snapdragon-based Windows 11 system.
The warning also identified possible problems with banking, shopping and other websites that rely on security software or browser components. That regional context matters: the cited warning was published on Samsung Korea’s product page, so it should not automatically be presented as an identical worldwide restriction on every model.

Contemporary reporting listed Fortnite, League of Legends, Halo Infinite, Google Drive, some Adobe applications, certain printers and some Korean financial websites as examples. The underlying issue was Windows on Arm compatibility, not a hardware defect unique to Samsung.
Samsung’s Korean product page contains the original compatibility qualification, while contemporary reporting from SamMobile described the applications named at launch.
Why Snapdragon X Elite can cause Windows compatibility problems
The Galaxy Book4 Edge uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite rather than an Intel or AMD x86 processor. That changes how traditional Windows software runs.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- x86 and x64 applications: Most traditional Windows software was compiled for Intel or AMD processors.
- Arm64 applications: These are built specifically for Snapdragon and can run natively.
- Emulated applications: Windows can translate many x86 and x64 programs at runtime.
- Drivers and system components: These often need native Arm support because they interact directly with Windows, hardware or the kernel.
Microsoft’s Prism emulation technology allows many conventional Windows applications to run on Arm-based PCs. But emulation cannot automatically make every dependency compatible. A program may still fail because it requires a kernel-level driver, an x64-only anti-cheat system, an unsupported plug-in, a printer driver, a hardware-acceleration component, licensing software or a browser security module.
That is why “Windows 11” does not guarantee the same software compatibility as an Intel- or AMD-based Windows laptop. The main application may open while a plug-in, peripheral or background service fails.
Microsoft’s Windows Arm FAQ explains the role of Prism and lists many applications with native or supported Arm versions, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Chrome, Slack, Spotify, Zoom, WhatsApp, Blender, Affinity Suite and DaVinci Resolve.
Fortnite: unsupported at launch, supported later
Fortnite really was unavailable on the platform when the Galaxy Book4 Edge launched in June 2024. That part of the original story was accurate at the time.

But it should not be described as a permanent incompatibility in 2026. Epic later added the required Windows-on-Snapdragon support for Fortnite and Epic Online Services, including the anti-cheat components that could not simply be handled through ordinary application emulation. Epic announced that Fortnite became available on Windows-on-Snapdragon devices on November 3, 2025.
The timeline is therefore:
- June 2024: Samsung’s Korean compatibility warning listed Fortnite as an example of an unsupported game.
- March 13, 2025: Epic announced work to bring Fortnite and its relevant services to Windows on Snapdragon.
- November 3, 2025: Epic said Fortnite was available on Windows-on-Snapdragon devices.
Epic’s announcement is available on its official Online Services website. The practical lesson is important: compatibility headlines can become outdated when a developer adds native Arm or anti-cheat support.
What about Adobe applications?
“Adobe apps do not work” is too broad. The launch-era warning referred to some Adobe applications, not every product in Adobe’s catalog.
Compatibility can differ between Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Acrobat and other products. It can also differ between:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- The Creative Cloud installer and the application it installs.
- A native Arm64 build and an emulated x64 build.
- The main application and third-party plug-ins.
- Basic editing and workflows involving codecs, capture hardware, fonts, effects or GPU acceleration.
The available launch reporting does not establish a single reliable current status for every Adobe application, version or plug-in. Buyers should therefore verify the exact application and workflow with Adobe before purchasing rather than treating the 2024 warning as a universal Adobe ban.
For a professional editor, photographer or designer, the important question is not simply “Does Adobe work?” It is “Does my current Adobe version, plug-in set, codec workflow and external hardware work on this specific Windows-on-Arm setup?”
Google Drive is not the same as the Google Drive website
The original report’s Google Drive reference concerned the desktop synchronization application. That is different from visiting Google Drive in a browser.

A browser-based workflow may allow access to Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides even if the Drive for desktop client has a compatibility limitation. Desktop synchronization also involves features such as file streaming, mirroring and offline files, so it should be evaluated separately.
The available sources do not verify the current September 2026 status of Google Drive for desktop on every Galaxy Book4 Edge configuration. Before buying, check Google’s current support information for the exact Windows-on-Arm version and confirm whether your required offline and synchronization features are supported.
Other compatibility risks for gamers and power users
The same architecture issue can appear outside the three headline examples. Potential failure modes include:
- A game installs but will not launch because its anti-cheat driver is unsupported.
- A program opens, but a plug-in or extension does not.
- A printer or scanner appears to install but cannot print or scan.
- A VPN, security tool or enterprise application requires an unavailable driver.
- A banking website reports that required security software is missing.
- An update breaks an application that previously worked through emulation.
- A cloud-sync client works only through the browser and not as a full desktop application.
- An emulated application performs acceptably for light use but struggles under sustained workloads.
These risks are especially relevant to competitive PC gaming, older peripherals, specialist business software, accounting and medical applications, engineering tools, and creative workflows built around proprietary plug-ins.
Is the problem specific to Samsung?
Generally, no. The Galaxy Book4 Edge is one example of a broader Windows-on-Arm transition. Other Snapdragon X-series laptops can encounter similar issues because the underlying variables include the processor architecture, Windows build, application binaries, drivers, anti-cheat systems and vendor support.

The display size and storage capacity do not remove the fundamental Windows-on-Arm compatibility question. Exact firmware and Windows versions can still matter, so check the software vendor’s current requirements for the model you intend to buy.
Who should buy the Galaxy Book4 Edge?
It is a reasonable choice for buyers whose work is mainly web-based or centered on software with confirmed Arm support:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Microsoft 365 and ordinary office work.
- Email, web applications and video calls.
- Streaming and general travel computing.
- Supported browsers and cloud-based services.
- Buyers who value a thin design, portability and battery-conscious operation.
Choose an Intel- or AMD-based Windows laptop instead if you need a broad margin of compatibility for:
- Legacy Windows utilities.
- Specialist business or enterprise applications.
- Older printers, scanners, audio interfaces or other peripherals.
- Adobe workflows that depend on unverified plug-ins or hardware.
- Competitive multiplayer games with uncertain anti-cheat support.
- Offline synchronization tools that do not clearly support Windows on Arm.
A conventional gaming laptop is the safer choice when gaming compatibility matters more than thinness or battery life. A Mac with Apple silicon may also be worth considering where the required software is officially supported, although that is a separate compatibility decision rather than a universal solution.
How to check compatibility before buying
- List every must-have application. Include games, launchers, VPNs, printers, scanners, plug-ins, codecs and security tools.
- Look for an Arm64 build. Native support is preferable, but a supported emulated build may also be adequate.
- Check the developer’s support statement. Do not rely only on the fact that an installer downloads successfully.
- Verify low-level components. Confirm anti-cheat, drivers, plug-ins, licensing services and hardware acceleration.
- Separate browser access from desktop functionality. This is particularly important for Google Drive and other cloud services.
- Use a return window. Test the exact workflow immediately if the application is business-critical.
Microsoft also points users toward the third-party Works on WoA compatibility database, but application developers’ own support pages should take priority for professional or mission-critical software.
The bottom line on the original headline
The headline was substantially fair when the Galaxy Book4 Edge launched: Samsung Korea had warned buyers about genuine Windows-on-Arm compatibility gaps, and Fortnite was unavailable at that time. But it is misleading as an unchanged worldwide verdict in 2026.
Fortnite later gained Windows-on-Snapdragon support. Adobe compatibility depends on the specific application, version and plug-ins, while Google Drive for desktop must be distinguished from the Google Drive website. The Galaxy Book4 Edge is not broadly “unable to run Windows software”; it is a Windows-on-Arm laptop whose compatibility must be checked application by application.
