Reports published in October 2024 said files exposed in a Game Freak server breach contained details about Pokémon’s tenth generation and an alleged online project called “Synapse.” Game Freak confirmed unauthorized access to a company server and exposure of personal information, but that confirmation does not verify the reported game details. The names and project descriptions below remain unconfirmed leak claims, not official announcements.
What Game Freak confirmed about the breach
Game Freak said it discovered unauthorized access to a company server in August 2024. Its notice reported that personal information belonging to 2,606 current and former employees and other personnel had been exposed, including names and company email addresses. The company apologized and said it was contacting affected people. Nintendo Life reproduced the notice.
Game Freak also said it had rebuilt and inspected the server and would strengthen security measures to prevent a recurrence. This statement addresses the security incident and personal information; it does not confirm the accuracy of any leaked game material.
What reports said about Pokémon Gen 10
October 2024 reporting attributed two codenames to the leaked files: “Gaia” for Pokémon’s tenth generation and “Ounce” for the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Life reported those alleged names, and Engadget also described them as leak claims.

Neither name was established as an official title or platform name in those reports. Their appearance in coverage shows what the leaked material was said to contain, not whether the projects remain in development or what their final names, features, or plans will be.
What was reported about the Pokémon MMO and Synapse
ComicBook.com reported that leaked material described an alleged online Pokémon project codenamed “Synapse,” reportedly involving Game Freak and ILCA. The report characterized it as battle-focused, but said details were scarce. It also mentioned comparisons to Splatoon while noting that the basis and meaning of the comparison were unclear.

- The Pokémon TCG: Pokémon Day 2026 Collection includes 1 foil promo card featuring Pikachu with a Pokémon Day stamp.
- This also comes with 1 Pokémon coin.
- You will also receive 3 Pokémon TCG booster packs.
- Booster Packs May Vary from those pictured.
Those descriptions do not establish that Synapse is definitely an MMO, that it uses a Splatoon-like format, or that the project is still active. The cited coverage offered no official confirmation of the codename or project details.

- Company statement: Game Freak acknowledged unauthorized server access and reported exposure of personal information.
- Leak reporting: News outlets attributed the Gaia, Ounce, and Synapse names and project descriptions to leaked material.
- Confirmation status: Acknowledging a breach confirms the incident Game Freak described; it does not independently authenticate every file or interpretation associated with it.
- Timing: The game details were reported on October 12–13, 2024. Those reports do not establish the projects’ status today.
Accordingly, the most accurate reading of the headline is that the leak reportedly contained these details—not that Game Freak officially announced Gen 10 as Gaia or confirmed a Synapse MMO.
