Game Informer did shut down on August 2, 2024, after 33 years—but the closure was not permanent. Gunzilla Games acquired the brand, and the former team relaunched the publication in March 2025. As of October 2026, Game Informer is publishing print issues and offering subscriptions.
What happened to Game Informer?
GameStop, Game Informer’s parent at the time, closed the publication on August 2, 2024. GameSpot reported that staff were laid off and that the unfinished next issue would not be completed; the last completed issue was #367, published in June 2024. Those staff and production details were reported by GameSpot, not included in a public explanation from GameStop. GameSpot’s report on the closure
The shutdown was followed by a return. On March 25, 2025, editor-in-chief Matt Miller announced that Gunzilla Games had acquired the Game Informer brand and that the entire team working at the time of the closure had returned. Miller said Gunzilla secured the rights after contacting the team. The website resumed daily updates, and he said the print magazine would return. Game Informer’s relaunch announcement
“The whole team has returned, and we can’t wait to connect with you again,” Miller wrote. Game Informer’s August 2026 anniversary coverage described the publication as celebrating 35 years in print and discussed current and forthcoming issues. Game Informer’s 35th-anniversary coverage

Where can you find old print issues?
Game Informer says it does not currently sell past print issues directly. Its digital archive includes pre-2025 issues accessible with a free account, while relaunch-era digital issues require a subscription. For a particular physical back issue, availability from third-party sellers is not established by the publisher’s archive information; verify the exact issue and seller before buying.
