Epic Games removed it from Fortnite on April 16, 2026, so it is no longer playable. Epic says first-person shooter tools remain available in UEFN, but those tools are not the retired Ballistic mode.
What was Fortnite Ballistic?
Epic announced Ballistic on December 7, 2024, as a competitive mode with ranked and unranked queues. Its early-access release date was December 11, 2024. Epic described the mode as a tactical 5v5 experience built around teamwork and individual skill. The official announcement called it “an adrenaline-filled, round-based 5v5 competitive game mode where strategy, tactical teamwork, and individual prowess are essential for victory.”

Ballistic was also the first Fortnite mode built using UEFN’s First Person Camera Mode Device, according to its Epic Games Store listing. At launch, Epic offered one map, Skyline 10, alongside a starting selection of weapons and items. The company said it intended to develop the early-access experience with player feedback, including adding maps, weapons and features.
How did Ballistic matches work?
Attack, defend and win rounds
Each match pitted two teams against one another in attack-and-defense rounds. Attackers tried to plant a Rift Point Device at one of two sites; defenders tried to stop the plant or prevent the device from detonating. There were no respawns during a round. A round ended when the device detonated or every player on one team was eliminated.

Teams switched sides after six rounds, and the first team to win seven rounds won the match. These are Ballistic’s launch-era rules, not settings for a mode that is still available.
Buy weapons and carry gear forward
Players began with a Ranger Pistol and 800 Credits. Eliminations and planting the Rift Point Device could earn more Credits, which players spent at the start of a round on weapons and other items. A player who survived a round kept their equipment and shields for the next one; used consumables did not carry over.

Choose a Flex Gadget
Before a match, each player selected one of five Flex Gadgets. Epic’s launch announcement listed the Proximity Mine, Bubble Shield, Recon Grenade, Frag Grenade and Impulse Grenade. The choices gave teams different tactical options, but each player selected a single gadget for the match.
Ranked and unranked queues had different leaver rules
In unranked matches, a departing player could be replaced by a backfill. Ranked matches did not backfill leavers; Epic said players who left could receive a rank penalty and be temporarily blocked from joining another match. The launch-era rules included a five-minute window to reconnect. These historical details should not be taken as current Fortnite matchmaking rules.

What Fortnite cosmetics and building did Ballistic support?
Ballistic was a no-build mode. Saved Locker presets carried over, and Epic listed Outfits, Back Blings, Kicks, Wraps, Sprays and Emotes as supported cosmetics. Pickaxes, Contrails, Instruments, Vehicles and Jam Tracks were not supported, according to the launch announcement.

No. Epic Games Support says Ballistic was removed from Fortnite on April 16, 2026. The support notice adds that first-person shooter tools remain available in UEFN. That is a separate creator-tool option, not a way to play Ballistic. The Epic Games Store listing currently marks the Ballistic experience unavailable.
