If what attracts you to CONTROL Resonant is the combination of unexplained phenomena, reality-bending spaces and exploration that rewards curiosity, start with Returnal, Prey (2017), Alan Wake 2 and The Medium. They share at least two of Resonant’s defining qualities, but each changes the balance between mystery, combat, exploration and choice.
CONTROL Resonant stars Dylan Faden in a warped Manhattan threatened by paranatural annihilation. Its large zones contain side activities, hidden encounters, optional discoveries and Gravity Anomalies that alter gravity and orientation. Missions, encounters and events can be tackled in different orders, while Dylan’s powers, weapons and the Aberrant melee weapon develop throughout the game.

What makes a game feel like CONTROL Resonant?
A superficial comparison looks for a third-person action game with strange powers. A useful comparison is more specific. CONTROL Resonant combines five ingredients:
- Supernatural mystery: unexplained phenomena and a reality-bending threat drive the story rather than serving as background decoration.
- Exploration with consequences: large, distinct areas hide optional encounters, side activities and discoveries.
- Environmental rule-breaking: spaces can behave in ways that contradict ordinary physics, including the Gravity Anomalies announced for Resonant.
- Flexible action: Dylan’s powers and weaponry evolve, and the Aberrant can change from a heavy two-handed hammer to faster dual blades.
- Player-directed progression: branching missions, events and encounters can be approached in different orders.
No other game reproduces that exact combination. The recommendations below are therefore organized by the part of Resonant you want to preserve, followed by the trade-off you should expect.

CONTROL Resonant at a glance
Remedy Entertainment’s action-adventure/action-RPG follows Dylan Faden through a warped Manhattan facing paranatural annihilation. The official gameplay description emphasizes broad zones, hidden encounters, side activities and Gravity Anomalies, while the PlayStation Blog describes branching missions and events that can be tackled in any order. That makes exploration a central activity rather than a corridor between combat arenas.

These details matter when choosing an alternative. If your favorite part is the order-independent city exploration, a linear campaign will feel less similar even if its story is supernatural. If the priority is powers and fast shooting, a slow investigation game may miss the point.
The best games like CONTROL Resonant
1. Returnal — for supernatural science fiction and exploration-led action
Returnal is the clearest recommendation when you want an oppressive science-fiction mystery, hostile spaces that demand investigation and combat built around extraordinary abilities. Its alien setting and repeated attempts create a sense that the world is hiding an explanation from you. Exploration is inseparable from danger: each run asks you to learn rooms, routes and threats while deciding how far to push your current build.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThe important difference is structure. Resonant presents large zones and branching activities as part of a persistent adventure. Returnal is built around runs, deaths and returns, so progress is measured through knowledge, unlocks and improved execution rather than simply clearing a Manhattan district once. Its combat is also a faster, more projectile-heavy third-person shooter, not a direct equivalent of Dylan’s powers and changing Aberrant forms.
Choose it if you want mystery expressed through hostile science fiction and movement-heavy action. Skip it if you specifically need permanent, leisurely exploration of one evolving city.

2. Prey (2017) — for a building that is itself a mystery
Prey makes environmental investigation the foundation of its design. The Talos I space station is a connected place full of locked rooms, alternate routes, readable clues and systems that can be exploited in several ways. Alien Typhon abilities let you question the boundary between human and other, while the station’s history is assembled from recordings, emails and physical evidence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat makes it a strong match for Resonant’s curiosity-first side. Both games ask you to inspect architecture and objects instead of following a single glowing path. The trade-off is combat tempo. Prey is an immersive sim: stealth, resource management, hacking and improvised solutions are as important as shooting. It does not offer Resonant’s large-scale supernatural powers or its open-ended mission presentation, and its science-fiction horror is more deliberately vulnerable and tactical.
Play Prey when your ideal Resonant session is opening a previously inaccessible room, discovering what happened there and finding a new route through a familiar area.
3. Alan Wake 2 — for authored supernatural investigation
Alan Wake 2 is the best choice if the mystery itself matters more than free-form combat. It uses supernatural horror, altered stories and unstable realities to turn investigation into the main dramatic engine. Its environments are designed for close attention: documents, scenes, symbols and seemingly ordinary locations can acquire new meaning as the narrative develops.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The comparison is especially strong in atmosphere. Both games treat architecture, sound and visual unease as active storytelling tools rather than decoration. The difference is agency. Resonant’s stated structure allows missions, encounters and events to be tackled in different orders inside large zones. Alan Wake 2 is more authored and cinematic, with deliberate pacing and investigation sequences that guide you toward specific revelations. Its combat is less about building a broad supernatural arsenal and more about managing encounters within a horror framework.
Choose this one for unsettling fiction, layered clues and Remedy’s particular interest in worlds where stories can alter reality. Do not expect the same degree of systemic experimentation or open-ended route planning.
4. The Medium — for parallel realities and psychological unease
The Medium is a good fit for readers drawn to the idea of a world that cannot obey one set of physical rules. Its central device presents connected realities at once, making space and perception part of the mystery. Exploration is slower and more deliberate than in Resonant, with emphasis on environmental details, symbolic imagery and psychological horror.
Its trade-off is substantial: this is primarily a narrative horror adventure, not a power-driven action RPG. Combat is limited compared with Resonant, and the path through the story is much more controlled. The similarity lies in the feeling that ordinary places conceal another layer of reality, not in weapon handling or progression depth.
Pick it if Gravity Anomalies appeal to you because they make you doubt the rules of a room. Pick something else here if you want frequent firefights, build choices or broad mission freedom.

5. Quantum Break — for Remedy’s time-bending action
Quantum Break is worth considering when the Remedy connection and reality manipulation are more important to you than open exploration. It combines third-person shooting with time-based abilities and a story built around a crisis in causality. Powers change how you move through encounters, interrupt enemies and control the battlefield, which makes it a useful comparison for players who enjoy Resonant’s supernatural-action side.
Its limitation is its linear structure. Levels are authored sequences rather than large zones packed with optional discoveries, and the mission order is not a major source of player choice. The game also expresses its ideas through time distortion rather than paranatural architecture and occult investigation. Think of it as a tighter action campaign that shares a design lineage, not as a substitute for Resonant’s exploratory playground.
6. Deathloop — for supernatural abilities and player-directed routes
Deathloop combines a strange island, a repeating day and a set of targets whose routines can be studied and manipulated. Its supernatural abilities, weapons and traversal options let you approach encounters from different angles. The pleasure comes from learning how the world fits together, then using that knowledge to change the route you take through it.
That makes it a strong match for Resonant’s choice-and-discovery axis. The trade-off is that Deathloop is organized around a loop and target-planning puzzle, not a continuous city adventure. Its tone is more stylized, its combat leans heavily toward firearms and stealth, and its central mystery is solved through repetition and optimization. It is a good recommendation for players who want freedom to experiment, not for those seeking a sustained paranormal investigation with a single evolving protagonist arc.
7. SOMA — for existential mystery in an oppressive environment
SOMA is the most appropriate recommendation if your favorite Resonant moments are the unsettling questions beneath the action. Its underwater facility is explored as a sequence of connected spaces whose logs, machines and encounters gradually reveal what happened. The story’s science-fiction ideas are existential and disturbing, and the environment carries much of the narrative weight.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The trade-off is almost the inverse of Resonant. SOMA is a horror exploration game with limited direct combat, scarce conventional progression and a strongly directed route. It shares the sense of uncovering a hidden reality, but not the empowered combat loop, branching activities or weapon customization. Choose it for atmosphere and philosophical mystery rather than action.

| Game | Supernatural or reality-bending mystery | Exploration shape | Combat identity | Main trade-off versus Resonant |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Returnal | Alien science fiction and unexplained phenomena | Runs with repeated returns | Fast third-person shooting and movement | Less persistent, more loop-driven |
| Prey (2017) | Alien abilities and hidden station history | Interconnected immersive-sim spaces | Stealth, shooting, hacking and improvisation | More systemic and resource-focused |
| Alan Wake 2 | Supernatural horror and altered stories | Directed investigation with explorable areas | Horror-focused third-person combat | Less mission-order freedom |
| The Medium | Parallel realities and psychological horror | Deliberate, guided exploration | Limited action | Much less combat and progression |
| Quantum Break | Time distortion and causality crisis | Linear campaign | Third-person shooting with time powers | Little optional exploration |

Choose by the part of Resonant you want most
If you want the closest exploration feeling
Start with Prey for a persistent place full of alternate routes and hidden information. Choose Deathloop instead if you prefer learning a map through repeated attempts and deliberately changing your route.
If you want the strongest supernatural atmosphere
Choose Alan Wake 2 for authored horror and layered investigation, or The Medium for a slower experience built around parallel realities. SOMA is the choice when existential science fiction matters more than paranormal spectacle.

If you want the most demanding action
Returnal offers the most intense combat and movement, but its run-based structure is a major departure. Quantum Break is easier to approach as a conventional campaign and shares the appeal of a protagonist whose abilities reshape encounters.
If you want player-directed progression
Deathloop gives you the strongest route-planning freedom, while Prey rewards experimentation with abilities, resources and access paths. Neither reproduces Resonant’s exact combination of branching missions and supernatural melee transformation.
Which version of CONTROL Resonant should you buy?
CONTROL Resonant launched worldwide on 24 September 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW. Remedy lists Mac availability through Steam and the App Store as following later in 2026, so Mac buyers should check the current store listing rather than assume the date.
Physical Standard Editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S released on 15 October 2026. Remedy lists the US price at $59.99; the amount can vary by region and retailer. The physical edition is the straightforward choice if you want a disc or console ownership, while the PC storefronts and GeForce NOW cover digital play. Verify current platform availability, stock and regional pricing before purchase because these details can change.
Bottom line
For the broadest match to CONTROL Resonant’s supernatural mystery and exploration, begin with Prey or Deathloop. Choose Returnal when combat intensity and hostile science-fiction discovery come first, Alan Wake 2 when authored supernatural investigation is the priority, and The Medium or SOMA when atmosphere matters more than action. Quantum Break is the compact Remedy-style action alternative, but its linear campaign makes it the least suitable substitute for Resonant’s open-ended zones.
