Play ASTRO BOT first if you want the closest bright, polished 3D-platforming follow-up to Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. Choose Psychonauts 2 for stranger worlds and a stronger narrative, or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for heavier combat, weapons and dimensional traversal. None recreates Disney’s licensed setting, but each preserves a different part of Rebrushed’s appeal: colorful exploration, unusual worlds, collectibles, creative abilities or a slightly darker story.
Why Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a distinctive starting point
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a vibrant 3D platformer released on September 24, 2024. Mickey travels through Wasteland, a realm populated by forgotten Disney characters, alongside Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Its identity comes from giving the player direct control over the world rather than treating the environment as a fixed obstacle course.

Mickey’s brush carries two contrasting tools. Paint can restore scenery, create objects and repair damaged parts of the environment. 1. ASTRO BOT: the closest colorful 3D-platforming follow-up
ASTRO BOT is the safest recommendation when what you miss most is the physical pleasure of moving through bright, carefully built 3D stages. Sony describes it as a “brand-new, supersized space adventure” spanning more than 50 planets. Astro gains different powers for traversal and combat, so each stage can introduce a new movement idea without abandoning straightforward platforming.
Like Rebrushed, it rewards looking around rather than rushing to the exit. Levels are compact enough to replay, and discovery is reinforced by collectible characters and hidden routes. Where ASTRO BOT matches Rebrushed

2. Psychonauts 2: the best surreal story-driven alternative
Psychonauts 2 is the strongest fit for players who remember Rebrushed less as a mascot platformer and more as a journey through a strange world populated by damaged, forgotten or overlooked characters. Double Fine lists it as a platformer/adventure released on August 25, 2021. You play Razputin Aquato, a trained acrobat and young psychic who joins the Psychonauts.

Instead of carrying paint and thinner, Raz uses psychic powers. Those abilities shape combat, movement and environmental puzzles, while the story moves through imaginative minds and a conspiracy involving the psychic villain Maligula. Each mental world can change its visual language and rules, creating the same sense of entering a themed space that Rebrushed gets from its Wasteland districts and film-inspired stages.
Why it suits fans of Rebrushed’s darker side

Choose Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart when the most appealing part of Rebrushed was using a growing toolset to reach new places, but you want substantially more combat. World manipulation
Rebrushed is the outlier. Paint restores, creates and repairs; thinner alters or removes and can reveal secrets. Those actions are both mechanical tools and expressions of how Mickey treats Wasteland. ASTRO BOT substitutes traversal powers, Psychonauts 2 substitutes psychic abilities and Rift Apart substitutes gadgets, weapons and rifts. All three let abilities change your route, but none reproduces the direct “edit the level” relationship created by the brush.
Exploration versus combat
ASTRO BOT puts platforming and discovery first. Psychonauts 2 splits its time between platforming, story scenes and puzzle-like environments. Rift Apart gives the greatest weight to combat, weapon variety and rapid movement. Rebrushed sits between the first two: its platforming stages and collectibles encourage exploration, while brush choices and creative challenges give the player more to do than simply reach the goal.
