End of Abyss is the pick for sci-fi horror atmosphere and exploration, but it is described as an action adventure—not as a Sokoban-style puzzle game.

Void Stranger: for puzzles where every step counts
Void Stranger is the closest match if the appeal is solving compact spatial puzzles through deliberate moves. Its Steam listing calls it a single-player, 2D Sokoban-style puzzle game and emphasizes planning each step, traps, fiendish foes, and puzzles that can seem impossible. It released on September 1, 2023, according to Steam.
The mystery is not separate from the puzzle-solving: the listing describes a story that gradually seeps through the Void. Choose it when you want to work out what a room allows while also wondering what the larger game is concealing.

TUNIC: for secrets discovered through exploration
TUNIC is a better fit when you want obscured clues and a broader adventure rather than a sequence centered on Sokoban rooms. Its Steam listing describes an isometric action adventure with a connected world, combat, hidden treasures, and secret puzzles. A central hook is reconstructing an instruction manual from found pages; those pages reveal maps, tips, techniques, and secrets.
That makes discovery part of learning how the game works, while combat and exploration remain part of the experience. Steam lists a March 16, 2022 release date and recommends a gamepad or controller for the PC version; it does not require a particular brand or model.

End of Abyss: for horror exploration with combat
End of Abyss belongs on this list for its dark exploratory side, not because it is established as a pure puzzle game. Xbox Wire’s September 30, 2026 announcement describes it as a sci-fi action adventure and says it would launch October 1 for Xbox Series X|S. A GamesRadar launch-window review characterizes it as survival horror and lists PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
In a January 2026 GamesRadar interview, Section 9 co-founder Marcus Ottvall described twin-stick controls, a primarily top-down view with occasional isometric shifts, and a scanner that can mark points of interest or reveal information about the environment and creatures. He also described a balance of relatively simple combat with a Metroidvania aspect: finding weapons and equipment, then using them to power up and unlock and explore intertwining areas.

Pick End of Abyss when atmosphere, environmental investigation, and action matter more than solving tightly constrained spatial puzzles. Its scanner and exploratory structure may appeal to players who enjoy uncovering information, but the available descriptions frame the game principally as horror action and exploration.
